Volume 2, Chapter 11 – An Angry Miss Bai Lianyue, and the Trembling Ones

As night fell, the atmosphere in the living room of the small house in Bellflower Sanctum grew suffocatingly tense.

The warm and cozy atmosphere that usually filled the room was now replaced by an oppressive weight.

The dim light of dusk filtered through the windows, casting a heavy glow on everyone’s faces.

Our Miss Bai Lianyue had recovered from the earlier shock and was now dressed in a solemn blue-and-white gown, sitting quietly in the center of the sofa.

Her legs were casually crossed, and her slender fingers tapped rhythmically on the armrest, producing a crisp, almost ominous sound, like the tolling of a death knell.

The Terran Malevolence’s face was expressionless, but her emerald eyes radiated a sharp, icy authority, casting an invisible shadow over the entire room.

Clearly, Miss Bai Lianyue was not in a good mood.

Standing before her were a pair of exquisitely delicate twin sisters.

These were none other than Miya and Weiya, the two little troublemakers who had accidentally activated the Dawn Dominion Pillar on the mountain earlier.

Facing their mother’s stern expression, the twins had lost their usual liveliness. They stood side by side, heads bowed, not uttering a word.

Their small hands were tightly clasped together, clearly comforting each other, but the tense atmosphere made them too nervous to move. Weiya peeked up at Bai Lianyue’s expression, only to quickly lower her head again, fidgeting with her fingers, visibly uneasy.

Miya, on the other hand, pursed her lips, her little brain racing to come up with an excuse to shift the blame.

But with her mind blank, she couldn’t think of anything to save the situation.

In this tense atmosphere, Bai Lianyue, who had been silent for a long time, finally spoke up, her voice filled with frustration:

“Miya, Weiya, have you two forgotten what I told you?”

“We didn’t forget,” Miya muttered softly.

“Didn’t forget? Then why did you run off to the outskirts without permission? Didn’t I tell you that you can play freely within Bellflower Sanctum, but if you leave this area, you must at least take Octopus Girl with you?! You absolutely cannot sneak out to play!”

Bai Lianyue spoke with clear displeasure.

The Terran Malevolence’s heart was filled with both anger and deep concern.

Although she had gone to great lengths to disperse the miasma that had surrounded Visas for a thousand years after Ulutiel’s attack, in order to give the children more space to play, the area was still dangerous.

The miasma might be gone, but this place was near the site of a major battle from a thousand years ago. The abandoned and crumbling buildings still held many unpredictable dangers.

And Miya and Weiya were still young and not strong enough to handle such risks.

Naturally, Bai Lianyue didn’t feel comfortable letting them run around freely. She had repeatedly told the two little ones that if they wanted to go out and play, they must have either herself or Ailiya accompany them. If that wasn’t possible, at least have Lingxi go with them.

But what happened?

Despite her repeated warnings, they had deliberately disobeyed her this time.

“You two really don’t take your mother’s words seriously, do you?”

Bai Lianyue placed her hands on her hips, her imposing aura growing even stronger.

Although Bai Lianyue had mostly been in a cute, harmless state since that day, when it came to the safety of her children, the Terran Malevolence seemed to temporarily regain some of her wits… and her authority.

As for why?

No one knew…………………

“This time, you ran off to such a faraway place! What if something dangerous had happened? Oh wait, it already did. If your sister Ailiya hadn’t rushed over to bring you back, do you know how dangerous things could have gotten?!”

“St……”

Scolded by Bai Lianyue, the twins let out a simultaneous whimper, their eyes even beginning to glisten with tears.

Seeing this reaction, Bai Lianyue’s heart instinctively softened.

Although she felt a pang of guilt, for the sake of the twins’ safety, she hardened her resolve and continued sternly:

“Do you understand what you did wrong?”

“Miya understands.”

“Aut……”

The two little ones nodded pitifully.

Seemingly not their first time facing an angry Bai Lianyue, the twins, with their prior experience, quickly moved to either side of her, grabbing her hands and speaking in a pitiful, yet adorably pleading tone:

“Mom, don’t be mad anymore.”

“Being angry is bad for your health.”

“Enmm…”

Glancing at the twins holding her hands, Bai Lianyue’s resolve quickly softened again. Her sharp gaze also became slightly gentler.

“Then will you dare to do it again?”

“We won’t.” X2

“Then what will you do next time?” Bai Lianyue pulled her hands free from the twins’ grasp, crossed her arms, and asked sternly.

“Enmm……”

Faced with this question, Miya thought for a moment, then replied softly:

“Next time, we’ll make sure to take Octopus Girl with us.”

“Mhm, mhm.” Weiya nodded repeatedly in agreement.

“Alright, as long as you know what to do………………”

Seeing this, Bai Lianyue sighed helplessly.

Enmm,

But?

Something feels off…

Ah, whatever………………

“But no matter what, if you do something wrong, there has to be a punishment.”

As she spoke, Bai Lianyue pointed out the window, using a tone that brooked no argument:

“Go, run ten laps around the safe zone boundary as punishment.”

“Okay.”

After exchanging glances, the two little ones obediently nodded. Although they really wanted to spend more time with Bai Lianyue now that she was awake, to avoid further upsetting their mother, the twins wisely left the living room. They changed into their little flower-patterned sneakers and trotted out of the house.

“Sigh, they really are a handful.”

After lamenting for a moment, the Terran Malevolence once again put on a fierce expression, glaring at another corner of the room.

“Now, let’s talk about your problem, Lingxi.”

As Bai Lianyue’s gaze shifted to the other side of the living room,

A delicate, doll-like little girl came into view.

The girl looked to be about eleven or twelve years old, roughly the same height as Miya and Weiya. Her soft pink hair, the color of cherry blossoms, cascaded over her shoulders, shimmering slightly under the light, giving her a dreamlike appearance.

Her large, crimson eyes sparkled like rubies.

However, her outfit seemed oddly mismatched with her delicate features.

She was wearing a loose white T-shirt. The shirt was not only oversized but also had a large, bold character “爷” (meaning “grandpa” or “boss”) printed on the front, giving off a strangely domineering vibe………………

Maybe.

But regardless of her “domineering” attire, the girl’s current posture was anything but imposing.

Because right now, the girl was kneeling in the corner, her knees planted firmly on a massive washboard.

She knelt there, back straight…………………

Her small figure looked utterly pitiful.

Her pink hair was disheveled, and her large eyes were brimming with tears, filled with grievance.

To make matters worse, she was balancing three enormous iron blocks on her head, each larger than her own body… the sight alone was enough to make one’s heart tremble………………

This girl, of course, was Lingxi, Bai Lianyue’s vassal.

After taking on the role of the twins’ playmate and protector, Lingxi had abandoned her usual Corrupted Beast form over the years, taking on the appearance of a human girl.

However, even in her human form, Bai Lianyue showed no mercy, glaring fiercely at her, causing the Octopus Girl to shiver in fear.

“Didn’t I tell you to keep an eye on Miya and Weiya? So where were you when those two got into trouble?”

“This… I mean, I was making apple jam…………”

Lingxi lowered her head pitifully and said:

“Those apples would’ve gone bad if I didn’t process them… Big Sis, I was wrong, I’ll never do it again, wuwuwu………………”

Lingxi didn’t hesitate to admit her mistake.

“Apple jam again… you bad octopus, why are you always so obsessed with apples? I remember saying last time that if you did this again, I would… I would… what was it again………………”

Halfway through her threat, Bai Lianyue awkwardly realized that her memory had blanked out again… she couldn’t remember what she had said to Lingxi before.

“What was it…………… I can’t remember………………”

As Bai Lianyue tried harder to recall, a sharp, splitting pain began to spread through her mind.

“DEF……”

The girl couldn’t help but raise a hand to her forehead.

Just then, a clear, melodious voice filled with concern came from behind Bai Lianyue:

—“Mom, don’t push yourself. If you can’t remember, just let it go. Forcing yourself will only hurt your brain. You’re already quite ditzy; if you get any dumber, what will we do………………”

“Um, Ailiya?”

Holding her forehead, Bai Lianyue slowly turned to look behind her, pouting as she sternly emphasized:

“I’m not ditzy.”

“Okay, Mom’s not ditzy. Mom’s the smartest.”

While comforting Bai Lianyue, Ailiya brought over a pot of freshly brewed soup and placed it on the coffee table in front of her:

“Don’t think about those things for now. It’s time to take your medicine… oh, I mean, it’s time to drink your soup, Mom.”
