Chapter 97.2

Holding her breath, she carefully opened the bathroom door to see Duke Kyar in his robes while leaning against the sofa.

He had a half-empty glass of wine in his hand.

“Were you drinking, Your Grace?”

“Not much.”

He walked slowly to the table and placed the wine glass down.

Was he feeling nervous and frantic, too?

Isabella hadn’t experienced this before so she had no idea how to get rid of this tension between them.

“Can I have a drink as well, Your Grace?”

Perhaps, drinking wine would calm her nerves.

Duke Kyar gave her a hooded stare and nodded once.

Then, he fetched another goblet from the cabinet, poured wine, and gave it to her.

Isabella accepted it and held the thin stem with a slightly trembling hand.

The wine tasted sweet.

She wanted to drink more of it because it made her muscles loosen up… or maybe, she was just thirsty.

After emptying her wine glass, she asked Duke Kyar carefully, “Can I have another drink?”

“You might get drunk, Isabella.”

“It’s not even that strong.”

“Even if the wine suits your taste, its alcohol content is quite high.”

“That’s all right. Is that alright?’ Isabella smiled when she noticed that she got her own words twisted.

It must be from all that wine.

The tension gradually left her stiff limbs and she relaxed even more.

Frowning, Duke Kyar poured more wine into her goblet.

Isabella sipped from its rim while tightly holding the cup.

The alcohol tasted even sweeter the more she drank and her courage soured for no reason.

Isabella grinned and held out her goblet in his direction.

“One more please, Your Grace. I want to drink.”

“I hope you’re not drunk after drinking two of them,” Duke Kyar said in a deep baritone as he took the goblet from her grasp.

Isabella shook her head hastily, even if her mind felt like it was sinking underwater.

Perhaps, she had drunk too much like what Duke Kyar had said.

She admitted that she felt a little dizzy but she really didn’t feel drunk at all.

Her body wobbled as the world around her spun.

Her eyes kept falling shut but she swore she was alright.

“I’m not drunk yet, Your Grace.”

“I sincerely hope not.” Duke Kyar said under his breath as he picked her up and laid her back down on the bed.

“Your majesty, I’m not really drunk.” As she glanced up at him with half-lidded eyes, Isabella grabbed his robes and slurred. “Why are you doing this to me? You shouldn’t have told me that you’re saving your virginity before marriage. Like you said before—”

There was so much that she wanted to say but why did her eyelids keep getting heavy?

“Isabella.” Duke Kyar’s voice echoed in her ears.

Why did he sound so far away?

Strange.

**

Duke Kyar chuckled when Isabella’s hand clutching his robe went limp.

Her blue eyes slowly fell shut.

“Isabella.”

He tried to wake her up but she didn’t respond.

Duke Kyar heard the soft sound of her breathing inside the silent room.

He already thought it was weird when Isabella blushed after drinking just one glass.

No matter how strong the alcohol was supposed to be, Duke Kyar still couldn’t believe that she would get drunk after two drinks.

Duke Kyar found it amusing to hear Isabella murmur a lot of strange words as he watched her sleep.

He ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. “You really know how to drive me crazy, Isabella.”

The subtle scent of flowers on her skin threatened to drive him insane.

As if on cue, his groin area felt suddenly heavy and it made him clench his fists.

The pain was of another kind and he didn’t want to dwell on it.

With gritted teeth, he focused his thoughts on wanting to hold her like this while she was sleeping.

He didn’t want to spend his first night like this, no matter how aroused he became.

Leaping out of bed, Duke Kyar approached the window.

He opened the curtains to catch a cool breeze but it wasn’t enough to extinguish his rising sexual desire.

‘Please don’t make me hard.’ He sighed irritably as he examined her sleeping profile.

How can she appear so calm while he was here in this bedroom, suffering?

“What nonsense was she talking about me remaining a virgin?”

He had never embraced a woman before but he definitely didn’t want to save his chastity before marriage.

Unfortunately, he had never met a woman he felt like hugging yet except for this one woman named, Isabella, who drove him mad.

Isabella was the only woman who made her so mad.

Even if he was the type of man to preserve his virtue before marriage, Duke Kyar would never think twice about throwing that idea out of the window the instant he laid his eyes on Isabella.

Unless he could make that as an excuse to manipulate his beloved into marrying him as soon as possible.

Duke Kyar’s dark eyes twinkled with mirth.

Why hadn’t he thought of that?

It was a pity that he couldn’t spend the night with Isabella but he had another wild idea in his mind.

He was aware that Isabella was physically attracted to him.

A languid smile spread across his face as he thought about this wonderful opportunity.

“By the time the festival is over, Isabella and I would get married..” Duke Kyar’s murmur reverberated quietly in the room.
