Volume 3, Chapter 175 – Look, My Daughter-in-Law Is Still So Outstanding (Part 1)
From Qi Huang’s perspective, since the Wang family’s burial was scheduled for the next day, the village ought to be bustling with activity today. Yet, reality proved her wrong. At a glance, the village appeared desolate—doors and windows tightly shut, not even a wisp of cooking smoke in sight. If not for her keen senses, which faintly picked up the murmurs of household chatter, she might have assumed something terrible had happened.
Uneasy, Qi Huang swept the surroundings with her divine sense, confirming there were no wandering spirits lurking nearby before quickening her pace toward home.
As she reached the front gate, she overheard her family engaged in lively discussion. She paused to listen.
“I wonder if our daughter-in-law will come?”
Huang Kairong was the first to speak.
“What’s this? In times like these, you’re still hoping she’ll show up? Are you only concerned about your own reputation? Do you have any idea how dangerous it is for her to travel all this way?”
Li Fen’s voice rose with agitation.
“Look at you, always so quick to anger! I’m not hoping she’ll come—I’m worried she might run into danger on the road! Since when did I, Huang Kairong, ever care about face as if I were some imperial relative?”
Huang Kairong sighed helplessly.
“Why not have Huang Qi ask again? If she’s really coming, our son can meet her halfway.”
Li Fen offered a suggestion.
“I thought of that too. But if our son leaves, what about the rest of the village? Who knows if those wandering ghosts might attack suddenly?”
Huang Kairong hesitated.
“Enough nonsense, you little brat! Go now! Not a single soul in this world is more important than my granddaughter-in-law!”
Old Master Huang Xinghu suddenly interjected with a sharp reprimand. Compared to before, his spirits had clearly improved.
Qi Huang felt a surge of warmth in her heart. This must be the effect of the pill I gave him. In the future, if circumstances allowed, she’d make sure to bring back sacks of such pills for the family to eat like candy.
“Fine!”
Not daring to disobey the old man, Huang Kairong prepared to leave and fetch his son.

Not wanting to trouble her family, Qi Huang quickly stepped forward and knocked on the door.
Huang Kairong opened it in confusion, only to find his strikingly beautiful daughter-in-law standing gracefully outside. The faint fragrance wafting from her nearly made him wonder if he was dreaming.
“Father!”
Having arrived unannounced, Qi Huang offered an awkward yet polite smile. Due to her true identity, she still habitually addressed her in-laws as father and mother rather than the more formal father-in-law and mother-in-law.
Of course, such familiarity defied tradition, but Huang Kairong and Li Fen were secretly delighted—it meant their daughter-in-law truly considered them family.
“Ah, look who’s here!”
Huang Kairong snapped out of his daze and called out excitedly.
Old Master Huang and Li Fen turned their gazes toward the door, their faces lighting up with joy before they hurried over.
“What are you standing around for? Let her in!”
Li Fen shot her husband a glare.
“Ah, sorry! I was just too excited!”
Huang Kairong scratched his head sheepishly and stepped aside with a foolish grin.
Rolling her eyes at her husband, Li Fen took her “daughter-in-law’s” delicate hand and ushered her inside.
“Child, didn’t I have Huang Qi tell you not to come? It’s such a long and dangerous journey! And our village hasn’t been peaceful lately—you must have heard, right?”
Li Fen’s face was full of concern.
“It’s fine, Mother! I always have escorts when I travel. They’re all highly skilled.”
Qi Huang lied smoothly, as always.
“Then where are they?”

Li Fen peered outside.
“They left as soon as we reached the door. They had other matters to attend to.”
Qi Huang answered without missing a beat.
“They came all this way but didn’t even stop for tea? Every time! If your parents found out, they’d surely scold us for being poor hosts.”
Li Fen complained.
“Oh, come on. If they really came in, what would we even serve them? Our daughter-in-law is just saving us face.”
Huang Kairong, ever the quick thinker, offered his own interpretation.
Li Fen’s eyes widened in realization, a hint of guilt flashing across her face before she began painting a rosy future:
“Don’t worry. Our Huang Qi isn’t the same as before—he’s a cultivator now, capable of subduing demons and ghosts! He’ll definitely give you a good life.”
“Mhm.”
Qi Huang nodded firmly, playing along. No sense in undermining myself, after all.
Once inside, she deftly placed her luggage in the room reserved for her during previous visits. Her parents-in-law had prepared it for her since she and Huang Qi—now Huang Tian—weren’t formally married yet. Even in this world where women held high status, cohabitation before marriage was unthinkable. Not that she’d ever consider something so shameless anyway.
“Go fetch Huang Qi right now. Tell him his wife is here.”
Li Fen instructed her husband.
“What’s he doing at the moment?”
Qi Huang asked curiously.
“The Wang family—all three of them—were killed by ghosts. Their home is now haunted, and no one in the village dares to keep vigil. Our son, kind-hearted as he is, has been staying there.”

Li Fen sighed.
“Is he alone?”
Qi Huang pressed.
“He’s with He Chao and Liu Keqian. Those boys were worried about him, so they volunteered to keep him company.”
Li Fen replied, a touch of relief in her voice.
Touched, Qi Huang thought, ‘I knew I judged them right.’
“Then there’s no need to call him back. Let’s go to him instead. If he leaves, what about He Chao and Liu Keqian?”
Qi Huang suggested.
“Child! That place is a haunted house now. Are you sure you want to go?”
Li Fen asked worriedly.
“Yes! A delicate girl like you has no way to protect yourself. You’re better off staying home.”
Huang Kairong chimed in.
“Don’t you trust your own son’s abilities?”
Qi Huang countered.
The couple exchanged glances, at a loss for words.
“Fine. I’ll take you.”
Li Fen reluctantly gave in. Since this involved her daughter-in-law, she couldn’t very well send her husband either—someone had to stay and look after the old man.
Thus, Qi Huang followed her mother-in-law to the Wang residence, which was indeed eerily quiet.

“Wow! Big Bro! Your wife’s here!”
The moment He Chao spotted Qi Huang, he shouted excitedly.
Almost instantly, Huang Tian and Liu Keqian rushed out from inside, their faces alight with excitement.
Qi Huang noticed her doppelgänger looked exhausted, his face unshaven—clearly, he hadn’t had an easy time.
A pang of guilt struck her. After all, her doppelgänger’s cultivation was only at the third layer of the Spirit Gathering Realm, and his divine sense barely reached the Unity Realm. Protecting an entire village single-handedly was no small burden.
“You’re here.”
Huang Tian nearly teared up at the sight of his main body. He knew full well what her current strength meant—with her here, every problem would be solved.
“What’s the situation?”
Qi Huang cut straight to the point. They weren’t actually married, so there was no need for affectionate greetings.
“Not good. The Wang family of three was killed by ghosts. This place is now haunted, and the villagers refuse to come. So it’s just the three of us keeping watch.”
Huang Tian sighed.
“But the burial is tomorrow! Don’t we need to prepare? They were fellow villagers—it’s our duty to send them off with dignity.”
Qi Huang’s voice rose with emotion.
Li Fen watched her daughter-in-law, her smile deepening. From every indication, this outstanding girl has truly set her heart on my son. Otherwise, why would she care so much for the villagers?
“Sis-in-law, I agree! But we’ve tried everything to persuade them, and they still refuse. What else can we do?”
He Chao spread his hands helplessly.
Furious, Qi Huang flicked her sleeve and declared, “Then spread the word: if anyone refuses to help, the next time ghosts come knocking, they can deal with it themselves!”
