Volume 1, Chapter 30 – Junior Sister, Why Has Your Waist Grown Thicker?

Huang Qi had found a way to survive, and his mind settled slightly as he began calculating how to impersonate Fairy Hongling without revealing any flaws.

“Daughter-in-law, why did she call you ‘little junior sister’?”

Huang Kairong asked, his expression flickering with suspicion.

Huang Qi knew he had to remain calm at all costs—he couldn’t afford to panic now. After a brief pause, he replied, “It’s nothing. We attended the same private school.”

“Pri… private school?”

Miao Xiang’s cherry-like lips parted slightly, her delicate face full of curiosity.

“You two should go ahead first. I still have things to discuss with her,” Huang Qi quickly instructed. The situation was perilous, and he didn’t want to drag his parents into danger.

“Alright, then we’ll wait for you outside the west gate.”

Huang Kairong didn’t press further and motioned for his wife to leave with him.

“Daughter-in-law, don’t take too long. It’s getting late—we’ll be waiting for you,” Li Fen urged, unable to hide her worry.

“Don’t wait for me. I’ll return on my own tomorrow.”

Li Fen hesitated, as if she wanted to say more, but in the end, she could only leave, glancing back every few steps.

Watching their retreating figures, Huang Qi suddenly felt a sting in his eyes. He didn’t know if he would ever have the chance to return home again.

“Little junior sister, why are you here? Master said you were in seclusion.”

Miao Xiang leaned forward slightly, her large, dewy eyes clear and innocent—yet beneath that purity lurked a trace of icy detachment.

Huang Qi didn’t dare let his guard down. This little fairy might seem harmless, but killing a novice like him would be no harder than crushing an ant. He forced out a lie: “I just came out of seclusion!”

“Oh? You must have heard about someone impersonating you, so you rushed here, right?”

Miao Xiang put on an air of clever deduction.

“So it’s already been exposed.”

Huang Qi’s heart nearly stopped. This news was nothing short of a disaster for him—it meant he would never know peace again.

But Huang Qi also knew that the future was too distant to worry about. Right now, the most important thing was surviving this immediate crisis. Trembling, he replied, “Y-yes!”

A flicker of doubt crossed Miao Xiang’s delicate face. She stretched out a soft, pink hand and affectionately grasped Huang Qi’s own—now equally smooth and fair.

The sensation of her bonelessly soft touch sent a jolt through Huang Qi, leaving him both terrified and strangely entranced—an unbearable mix of emotions.

But the worst was yet to come. The little fairy wasn’t content with just holding hands. Her jade-like fingers began mischievously exploring his palm and the back of his hand, like some kind of perverted old man.

Huang Qi’s entire body went weak, nearly collapsing on the spot. What he didn’t notice, however, was the fading glint of murderous intent in Miao Xiang’s eyes.

Miao Xiang wasn’t some lecherous woman. She was doing this to confirm whether the person before her was truly her junior sister. According to the eldest senior sister, the impostor’s hands were rough and large.

“These hands are small, soft, and tender—just like junior sister’s. Not rough at all.”

Miao Xiang carefully assessed the texture, but to divert attention, she asked, “But why did that uncle and auntie call you ‘daughter-in-law’?”

Huang Qi’s breath hitched, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. After racking his brain, inspiration finally struck. “I’m carrying out a secret mission assigned by Master, so I was acting with them.”

“Ah, I see! What kind of secret mission? Can you tell me?”

Miao Xiang’s tiny frame suddenly pressed into Huang Qi’s chest, her little face tilting up with a pitiful, pleading expression.

“S-since it’s a secret mission… I can’t tell you.”

Huang Qi stiffened, feeling as though he were embracing a cloud—fragrant and impossibly soft. He bit his lip hard to maintain composure.

“Tell me, senior sister!”

Miao Xiang whined, burying her face into Huang Qi’s chest and nuzzling like a puppy.

“Senior sister, we’re in public—mind your manners!”

Huang Qi, tickled by the sensation, forcefully pushed the girl away—only to immediately regret it. After all, girls were often affectionate with each other, especially close friends. Wouldn’t his reaction seem too unnatural?

“They’re real.”

Miao Xiang silently confirmed. And more importantly—

“Mmm… the scent of Golden Life Flowers… It really is you, junior sister!”

Miao Xiang suddenly let out a dreamy whimper, now looking every bit like a lovesick fool.

‘Wait… she didn’t believe I was Cheng Hongling this whole time?!’

Huang Qi’s hair stood on end. Truly, none of these cultivator maidens were easy to deal with.

‘But what exactly are Golden Life Flowers? Did she just mention that name?’

The thought crossed his mind, but he had no leads. At the very least, he now knew the source of the fragrance on his body.

“Junior sister, let me tell you—there’s a bad man in this town impersonating you! Not only did he scam eldest senior sister out of money, but he also took advantage of her!”

Now convinced of Huang Qi’s identity, Miao Xiang chattered away indignantly.

Huang Qi felt deeply awkward. How did I end up being painted as some kind of scoundrel? Still, he didn’t dare argue and could only agree. “What a terrible man!”

“And Master said he might have ulterior motives, so all of us junior sisters are lying in wait here to ambush him!”

Miao Xiang leaned in, her breath sweet as orchids.

“Ulterior motives? All I wanted was to fulfill my filial duties! What’s wrong with that?”

Huang Qi wanted to cry, but seeing that the little fairy no longer doubted him, he tentatively asked, “How many of you came this time?”

“Five. Besides me, there’s Ruan Lingyu, Yun Fei, Su Qingying, and Shen Yuan. They’re spread out across the town right now. The moment that impostor shows himself, he’ll be caught!”

Miao Xiang clenched her tiny fist, brimming with confidence.

‘I’m finished.’

Huang Qi’s vision darkened. Just dealing with Miao Xiang had him sweating bullets—now there were four more fairies lying in wait. Worse yet, if his dream was anything to go by, Miao Xiang was the youngest among them. The others wouldn’t be so easy to fool.

“Oh, since you’re here, why not come with me? Tonight, all us junior sisters can gather!”

Miao Xiang’s large eyes sparkled with mischief, though it was unclear what she was plotting.

“No, no! Like I said, I still have a secret mission to complete!”

Huang Qi shook his head like a rattle-drum. ‘Are you kidding? Walking into a den of fairies would be suicide!’

“Aww… you’ve been in seclusion for so long. I was hoping we could catch up.”

Miao Xiang pouted, clearly displeased.

“There’ll be plenty of time later.”

Huang Qi answered absentmindedly, itching to flee immediately.

“Fine. Be careful.”

Reluctantly, Miao Xiang gave her farewell.

“Got it.”

Huang Qi responded half-heartedly, about to take his leave when a terrifying realization struck him—he and his parents had just come from the government office. If this little fairy mentioned that to her senior sisters, even the slightest suspicion could lead them straight to him.

‘No. I have to eliminate this risk.’

After a moment’s thought, he put on an act of caution and whispered, “Senior sister Miao Xiang, when you go back, don’t tell them you saw me, okay?”

“Why not?”

“Master said this mission must be kept absolutely secret, so my whereabouts can’t be revealed.”

He fabricated an excuse, then added in a conspiratorial tone, “Right now, you’re the only one who knows.”

Miao Xiang’s cheeks flushed slightly, and she fidgeted. “Alright then.”

Huang Qi turned to leave, only to feel a soft embrace wrap around him from behind, a pair of plush mounds pressing against his back.

“But senior sister really doesn’t want to let you go, junior sister!”

Miao Xiang murmured into his ear.

“I told you, there’ll be time later!”

Suppressing his reluctance, Huang Qi pried off her hands and hurried away—but just then, a chillingly flat voice called out from behind.

“Junior sister… why does your waist feel so much thicker now?”

Miao Xiang’s question carried not a trace of emotion.
