Volume 8, Chapter 492 – Come Out and Greet Your Fiancé (Part 1)

As soon as Cheng Hongling spoke, she realized something was off and awkwardly shut her mouth.

‘Has she forgotten I used to be a man?’

Qi Huang was inwardly astonished. Her main self had been acting more and more familiar with her lately, and she wasn’t sure whether to be happy or worried. Happy, because there would be more “sweet rewards” to enjoy in the future. Worried, because a simple master-and-doppelgänger relationship wasn’t what she truly desired.

In the following days, Cheng Hongling didn’t summon Qi Huang again to test the Anemia Paste. After all, the next step would involve applying it to her torso, and she needed to mentally prepare herself first.

Then, one day, a group of people appeared at the gates of the Honghua Sect. Leading them was none other than Lü Yi, who had traveled from afar, accompanied by five attendants, all of them highly skilled guards from the Lü Estate.

At first glance, Lü Yi hadn’t brought many people with him. Fortunately, he wasn’t here for an official betrothal. At most, he was just inspecting the household and testing Cheng Hongling’s bloodline.

“Who are you? This is a sacred sect ground. No outsiders are allowed.”

The Honghua Sect disciples naturally stepped forward to block their way.

“The Lü Family of the Central Continent. Go tell Cheng Hongling to come out and greet her fiancé immediately.”

Lü Yi spoke with an air of arrogant command.

“Central Continent? Which Central Continent? Never heard of it.”

The gatekeeping disciples exchanged confused glances.

“Hmph! Truly a bunch of prefectural cultivators who’ve never seen the wider world.”

An elderly man with a deeply wrinkled face standing beside Lü Yi sneered. He was Old Ma, a long-time servant of Patriarch Lü, having served the Lü Family for over a century, which granted him a unique status.

“What did you just say?”

The disciples flared up in anger, their hands darting to the swords at their waists.

“Hmph! Overestimating yourselves!”

Old Ma’s face twisted in disdain as his powerful divine sense surged outward, instantly forcing the disciples to stagger back.

Terror flashed across their faces, and one of them stumbled back inside to report the incident.

The commotion caused by the Lü Family quickly drew the attention of many.

Huang Ren, who had been secluded in the back mountains, naturally noticed as well and immediately relayed the news to her main self.

“What? The Lü Family is here? And Lü Yi himself is leading them?”

Qi Huang was caught off guard. She had never dreamed the other party would take the initiative to seek them out.

“Yes. Who knows what he’s planning? Could it be revenge?”

Huang Ren speculated.

“Revenge? Lü Yi already carved my main self’s name into the Immortal Stele. How could he possibly harm his future wife?”

Qi Huang immediately dismissed the idea, then added, “Never mind his intentions for now. The real problem is the women from Shuiyu Valley. If they find out about this, all hell will break loose.”

As it turned out, Qi Huang’s worries were justified.

Most of Shuiyu Valley’s disciples had perished in the Immortal Might calamity, and every survivor had lost loved ones.

“Senior Sister, did you hear that? Those people claim to be from the Lü Family of the Central Continent!”

“The Lü Family of the Central Continent? The ones who destroyed our Shuiyu Valley with their Immortal Might?”

“It must be them. That young man in the lead called himself Cheng Hongling’s fiancé.”

“These beasts! We didn’t go looking for them, yet they’ve delivered themselves to our doorstep! Today, even if it costs me my life, I’ll avenge my little brother!”

“Count me in. The murder of my parents is an unforgivable sin.”

At the Honghua Sect’s main gate, several Shuiyu Valley female disciples were already boiling with rage, ready to charge into battle.

“Wait! We should inform the Valley Master first. Charging in blindly is suicide.”

Fortunately, some among them were still rational enough to hold back the vengeful disciples.

Before long, Wen Yunmei and Mu Ruoyi learned of the situation and led the remaining elders and disciples toward the gate, intent on demanding answers.

Qi Huang observed everything and urgently relayed the developments to Cheng Hongling, saying anxiously, “We need to intervene, or Shuiyu Valley’s people will be crushed like eggs against a rock.”

“We do need to stop them, but not yet.”

Cheng Hongling pondered briefly before responding.

“Then when?”

Qi Huang pressed, her anxiety growing.

“What’s wrong? Worried about Mu Ruoyi?”

Cheng Hongling’s tone turned icy.

“Ugh, it’s just sympathy! They ended up in this state because of us, and they’re also guests of the Honghua Sect now. If something happens to them, it’ll reflect poorly on us.”

Qi Huang scrambled to explain.

“Heh…”

Cheng Hongling smirked ambiguously. “If you truly care about her, then now is the worst time to go. If we stop them now, they won’t thank us. They’ll hate us for it.”

“That’s true. But when would be the right time?”

Qi Huang mused thoughtfully.

“Naturally, after they’ve been humiliated. Then, when we step in, it won’t be to block their revenge, it’ll be to save them.”

Cheng Hongling explained.

“Makes sense. You really think of everything.”

Qi Huang couldn’t help but praise her sincerely.

“So? What should you call me?”

Cheng Hongling seized the opportunity to make a demand.

“Elder Sis!”

Qi Huang shouted without hesitation. She was growing more and more impressed by her main self.

Meanwhile, under the leadership of Wen Yunmei and her daughter, the Shuiyu Valley disciples had already surrounded the Honghua Sect’s main gate.

“Haha, who knew the Honghua Sect would be so hospitable? Such a grand welcoming ceremony!”

One of Lü Yi’s attendants gloated.

“Hmph, have you forgotten our Young Master’s status? The Honghua Sect must be desperate to climb the social ladder. How could they dare slight him?”

Another attendant flattered.

But just then, Wen Yunmei and her daughter stepped forward with dark expressions.

“Are you the Lü Family of the Weiyuan Empire in the Central Continent?”

Wen Yunmei decided to try courtesy before force.

“Yes. Where’s Cheng Hongling? Where’s Qi Huang? Tell them to come out and greet this Young Master.”

Lü Yi issued the command without even glancing at Wen Yunmei.

“You’re Lü Yi? The one who carved Cheng Hongling’s name into your family’s Immortal Stele?”

Wen Yunmei gritted her teeth as she confirmed.

“Correct. And?”

Only then did Lü Yi deign to look at her.

“Did you know that Cheng Hongling’s name was already carved on the tombstone of one of our Shuiyu Valley’s ancestors?”

Wen Yunmei suppressed her fury as she spoke.

“Shuiyu Valley? You’re from Shuiyu Valley?”

Lü Yi frowned slightly.

“Yes!”

Wen Yunmei admitted openly.

“Why are Shuiyu Valley’s people at the Honghua Sect?”

Lü Yi’s expression darkened.

“We have your family’s Immortal Stele to thank for that!”

Wen Yunmei’s teeth ground audibly.

“Exactly! If not for your Lü Family’s Immortal Stele destroying our Shuiyu Valley, why would we be here?”

Mu Ruoyi could no longer hold back her accusations.

Lü Yi looked at Mu Ruoyi, a flicker of surprise crossing his face before his gaze turned lecherous.

“I never expected such a remote little kingdom to hold another peerless beauty besides Cheng Hongling. What’s your name?”

“Answer my question first. Before you carved that name, did you know about our relationship with Cheng Hongling?”

Wen Yunmei cut in sharply.

“I did. So what?”

Lü Yi replied dismissively.

“So what? Do you have any idea how many of our Shuiyu Valley disciples and innocent civilians died because of that Immortal Might?”

Mu Ruoyi demanded, her voice trembling with emotion.

“You got what you deserved. Anyone who dares lay a finger on my woman, even if they’re women themselves, must pay the price.”

Lü Yi smirked coldly.

“What kind of bandit logic is that? We had a prior marriage agreement with her. You’re the one who came later!”

Mu Ruoyi retorted.

“What does that matter? The strong rule in the cultivation world! If your Shuiyu Valley didn’t suffer some losses, how could I, Lü Yi, face the cultivation world after marrying a woman who was already promised to someone else?”

Lü Yi’s tone was tyrannical and unreasonable.

“So, the Lü Family has no intention of taking responsibility?”

Wen Yunmei’s lips trembled as her hand tightened around her sword hilt.

“Responsibility? Hmph, the only regret I have is that the Immortal Might didn’t wipe out Shuiyu Valley completely. Then I wouldn’t have to listen to these annoying flies buzzing in my ears.”

Lü Yi laughed mockingly.

“Then pay with your blood!”

With a sharp shing, Wen Yunmei drew her sword and charged at Lü Yi. Though she knew her chances of victory were slim, as the Valley Master, she had no room to retreat now.
