Volume 9, Chapter 582 – Slaying the Immortal Emperor

Nine golden dragons intertwined in midair, weaving themselves into a colossal net descending from the heavens. As the dragons twisted, their glittering scales detached one by one, slotting together like roof tiles to fill the gaps between their serpentine bodies. In moments, the net transformed into a flawless, seamless sphere, completely enclosing the battlefield below.

The Immortal Emperor burst skyward, his divine sense surging like a tidal wave. His sharp awareness locked instantly onto Elder Zou of the Zhenyu Sect. In a blur of speed, he swooped down, roaring, “A mere ant like you, what right do you have to perform a Heaven-Sacrificing Rite?”

Elder Zou’s face went pale with horror. He tried to flee, but with only the strength of an early Earth-grade Immortal, he was utterly incapable of moving under the Immortal Emperor’s oppressive might.

With a flash of cold steel, the Immortal Emperor’s sword cleaved through the air, severing Elder Zou’s head in a single stroke. Without pausing, he reached out, seizing the nearby Heaven-Sacrificing Censer and storing it within his spatial ring.

“Return the Heaven-Sacrificing Censer!”

Sect Master Song roared in fury, soaring into the sky, his hand gripping a spiritual artifact.

“The Heaven-Sacrificing Rite is the duty of emperors,” the Immortal Emperor declared coldly, his voice reverberating across the battlefield. “Yet your Zhenyu Sect dares to usurp Heaven’s authority time and again, trampling imperial mandate! Such audacity is already a crime of transgression. And now you dare demand the censer back? You deserve death!”

With a sharp flick of his wrist, a dazzling imperial jade seal materialized above his palm. Without hesitation, he hurled it downward.

BOOM…!

The jade seal expanded rapidly in midair, swelling to the size of a towering mountain. It plummeted toward Sect Master Song with earth-shattering force, its face engraved with four radiant, blazing characters: “Heaven’s Mandate Bestowed.”

“Hmph!”

Luo Yao, watching from afar, let out a faint, derisive snort.

Qi Huang’s lips curled in disdain as well. To her, cultivators were meant to defy the heavens and blaze their own paths. For a so-called Immortal Emperor of the heavenly realm to become a mere puppet of the Heavenly Dao, it was laughable beyond measure.

Before the jade seal even struck, the four glowing characters detached from its body, descending ahead like a crushing verdict of Heaven itself.

Sect Master Song’s expression twisted in shock. He instantly retreated to the ground, unfurling a tattered dao robe from his sleeve and tossing it high into the air.

The robe expanded at once, swelling to an immense size that blotted out the sky. In an instant, it wrapped itself around the descending jade seal, as if attempting to smother its divine authority.

When the two collided, the robe’s softness countered the seal’s overwhelming force. The sleeves moved as though guided by invisible hands, binding the jade seal tightly within their grasp.

A triumphant smile crossed Sect Master Song’s face. “Hmph! This dao robe is a heavenly artifact left behind by our sect’s founding ancestor. What right does your petty jade seal have to contend with it?”

“Frog in a well!” the Wushuang Immortal Emperor bellowed. “Your so-called heavenly artifact bears only the ‘heaven’ of mere mortals, while my jade seal carries the ‘Heaven’ of the Heavenly Dao itself! You dare pit the two against each other?”

As his voice thundered, the characters “Heaven’s Mandate Bestowed” ignited, spouting roaring divine flames. The searing heat spread across the dao robe, the flames shifting through seven colors: red, orange, yellow, white, blue, cyan, and violet. Within moments, the once-mighty robe burst into flames, disintegrating into ash.

The jade seal pressed downward once more, its authority absolute. The four blazing characters manifested phantom shadows, plunging toward Sect Master Song like celestial hammers of judgment.

“Help me!”

Panic swept through the surrounding immortals. Terrified beyond reason, they scattered like frightened birds.

“Heavenly Artifact: Astral Descent Bow!”

Sect Master Song roared, summoning a massive longbow into his grip. Golden true qi surged wildly around him as he pulled the string taut, condensing countless motes of light into three blinding, razor-sharp arrows.

SWISH!

Releasing the string, the arrows shot forward with terrifying speed, piercing through three of the four phantom characters: “Heaven”, “Mandate”, and “Bestowed”. But the last character “Heaven” remained unscathed, descending inexorably.

Sect Master Song’s face turned ashen. In desperation, he dismissed the bow and drew a shining longsword, flooding it with every last drop of his true qi. With a defiant roar, he swung it upward, cleaving at the descending “Heaven”.

BOOOOM…!

A colossal shockwave erupted, distorting space itself. The force was so immense that everything, snow, earth, stone, water, even the very air, was pulverized into nothingness. From orbit, the surface of Lanhuan Planet now bore a massive crater resembling the character “Heaven” tens of thousands of meters deep.

Sect Master Song lay at its center, motionless, his robes shredded, his immortal body shattered beyond recognition. Life was draining from him rapidly.

“To pit one’s meager strength against the will of Heaven… truly courting death.”

The Wushuang Immortal Emperor’s cold snort echoed like a thunderclap. He ascended tens of thousands of meters into the sky, overlooking the devastated battlefield. “Today, none of you shall escape!”

Above, the nine golden dragons roared, opening their colossal maws. Torrents of blazing fire spewed downward, cascading like nine rivers of molten magma.

The flames devoured the surface of Lanhuan Planet. Millennia-old glaciers vaporized instantly. The sealed sphere trapped the heat, transforming the enclosed battlefield into a colossal, suffocating steamer.

In minutes, ice and snow melted away, rocks liquefied, rivers turned into churning lava, and dormant volcanoes erupted violently. The once-blue world was painted crimson, its rings disintegrated into oblivion.

Those who had narrowly escaped death moments ago now found themselves trapped like crabs in a boiling pot, their flesh searing inch by inch. Their shrieks of agony filled the air, cries for mercy echoing endlessly, but no one answered.

The Immortal Emperor gazed down, face emotionless. Whether or not they were truly guilty mattered little. Killing them all was simply… safer.

“Hmph. Yu Qian, oh Yu Qian… Was this the ‘fatal calamity’ you foretold?” he murmured darkly, glancing at the spatial ring on his finger. “Were you lying to me… or is this truly the extent of your power?”

A soft, melodic voice drifted from within the ring, belonging unmistakably to Yu Qian. “What if I told you… your true death calamity has yet to arrive? Would you believe me?”

“Oh?” The Immortal Emperor’s gaze sharpened. “Then where… is my true calamity?”

Just then, Luo Yao finally moved.

She splashed the Heaven-Deceiving Water across her body, vanishing from mortal sight. In the next heartbeat, she dove toward Lanhuan Planet, and a suffocating tide of shadowy yin energy surged from her body. The dark energy solidified into nine immense chains, each one striking with unerring precision, coiling tightly around the vital points of the nine golden dragons.

ROAAAR!

The dragons howled in anguish, writhing helplessly as Luo Yao ripped them violently away. The spherical barrier collapsed instantly, and the trapped inferno within Lanhuan Planet erupted outward, venting into the void. The planet’s surface temperature finally began to drop.

“See? There it is,” Yu Qian’s voice in the ring teased mockingly.

“Who is it?”

The Wushuang Immortal Emperor’s expression darkened. His divine sense swept across the battlefield, yet he sensed no presence, only to spot with his mortal eyes a lone figure hovering high above gazing down upon him.

Those nine golden dragons… were bound effortlessly by chains of yin energy, writhing like dying serpents beneath her grip.

“Such overwhelming yin energy… What manner of fiend are you?”

The Wushuang Immortal Emperor drew the jade seal back into his palm, his wariness palpable.

“Hand over the Tianjizi,” Luo Yao’s voice resounded coldly from above, “and I will grant you a swift death.”

“What arrogance,” he snarled. “Who lives and who dies… has yet to be decided!”

“Foolish,” Luo Yao said softly, almost pitying. “You already know I am your destined calamity. Why struggle needlessly?”

Her thought moved, and the nine yin chains constricted violently. The nine golden dragons disintegrated into fragments of light, dissolving into the void.

“Even so,” the Wushuang Immortal Emperor roared, defiance blazing in his eyes, “today, I shall defy destiny itself!”

His divine sense lashed out, locking onto Luo Yao, while the jade seal shot from his hand like a falling mountain.

But Luo Yao was faster.

Her right hand extended, four fingers pressed together. Ebony nails elongated into a sword-like blade several meters long. In an instant, her form blurred, vanishing completely.

When she reappeared, she had already passed by him.

Behind them, reality itself split open. A gaping rift hundreds of meters long tore through space.

CRACK! CRACK!

The spatial fissure expanded rapidly, consuming everything in its path. The mighty jade seal shattered like glass, and the Immortal Emperor’s massive head rolled cleanly from his shoulders.

There had been no suspense. Their strength… was worlds apart.

“How pitiful,” Luo Yao murmured, shaking her head slowly. “Borrowing Heaven’s power while claiming to rebel against it… contradictory to the very end.”

The Wushuang Immortal Emperor’s lips trembled as his eyes dimmed. “Still… not enough…” His voice faded, his body falling limp. But his Life Soul attempted one final escape, streaking from his shattered body.

Without even glancing at it, Luo Yao flicked her hand. One yin chain shot forth, ensnaring the struggling soul and crushing it into nothingness.

Calmly, she stepped to the corpse, slipping the spatial ring from his finger. A tide of yin energy surged, eroding away the lingering divine sense sealed within.

“Come out,” she said softly, her gaze fixed on the ring. “You’ve been waiting for me long enough.”
