Volume 10, Chapter 709 – The Day of Blood Descends (Part 2)

“Heh, this really is like a pillow delivered right when I feel sleepy.”

Lu Yao’s lips curled into a smile.

“Master, you mean you intend to seek out that remnant body in the hands of the Immortal Alliance?”

An Xuan immediately grasped the meaning.

Lu Yao did not reply, which was as good as an admission.

“Using a zombie to draw out the memories of the foreign Heavenly Dao? Is that even possible?”

That lower-ranked immortal surnamed Lu raised his doubts.

Qi Huang harbored the same skeptical attitude, so she did not immediately break out in cheer.

“I’ve heard it’s possible. When the Immortal Alliance found this remnant body of the foreign Heavenly Dao, they also discovered a zombie nearby. That creature, desperate to live, revealed that by consuming blood it could extract the memories of the foreign Heavenly Dao.”

The immortal surnamed Liao explained the situation.

Qi Huang was utterly thrilled upon hearing this. Now that there was a lead on the Heavenly Dao’s remnant body, if Lu Yao could absorb it, she would certainly obtain the method to wield Assimilation Qi. By then, the problem plaguing her would be solved at once.

“In that case, won’t this foreign Heavenly Dao be worn away to nothing? Where will we go to claim bounties then?”

The immortal surnamed Lu grew anxious.

“That’s exactly why we need to move faster. Before the Immortal Alliance cancels the bounty, we must find as many foreign Heavenly Dao remnants or fragments of power as possible.”

The immortal surnamed Liao explained.

“Then let’s go now! Forget these spiritual herbs.”

The one surnamed Lu grew flustered and rushed to move.

“Brother Lu, calm yourself. The amount of memory a zombie can extract depends on its strength. For the Immortal Alliance to use one remnant of the Heavenly Dao to locate another, they’d need at least a zombie of the ‘Heavenly Demon’ realm. That zombie I mentioned earlier was too weak, so it could not extract much. In the end, the Immortal Alliance killed it.”

The immortal surnamed Liao hastily reassured.

Once beings of the Ghost Clan reached the level of immortals, they were generally called “Demons”. Their ranks, like immortals, were divided into the six realms: Heavenly, Earthly, Monarch, Kinship, Master, and Human. A Heavenly Demon realm zombie was equivalent to a Heavenly Realm Immortal.

“A Heavenly Demon realm zombie? Why didn’t you say so earlier? In this Immortal Realm dominated by immortals, evil spirits are nearly wiped out. Where are we supposed to find such a zombie so easily?”

The immortal surnamed Lu scolded. In a world ruled by immortals, few abominations could ever grow to that level.

“There really is one. I’ve heard someone discovered an incredibly dense yin aura on a planet in the Heilong Nebula. Its source is very likely a zombie whose strength has reached beyond the Heavenly Demon realm. The Immortal Alliance is preparing to capture it.”

The immortal surnamed Liao answered.

“But it might not be a zombie. It could just as well be some powerful malignant ghost or skeleton.”

The immortal surnamed Lu voiced doubt again.

“Someone captured lesser abominations on that planet and interrogated them. They claimed it was indeed a zombie. That makes it rather credible.”

The immortal surnamed Liao explained again.

“Then why are we still gathering herbs? Let’s go at once! Compared to the Immortal Alliance’s bounty, these things are worthless!”

The immortal surnamed Lu immediately soared into the air.

“Ah, Brother Lu, what’s with this panic? Even for the Immortal Alliance, catching a Heavenly Demon realm zombie is not something that can be done quickly.”

The immortal surnamed Liao sighed helplessly but still chased after him.

Lu Yao sank into thought. After a pause, she turned to An Xuan: “If what they say is true, once I absorb the blood of this foreign Heavenly Dao remnant, not only will I gain the method to use Assimilation Qi, I’ll also obtain clues to more remnants. It would be killing two birds with one stone.”

“Indeed. But have you decided how you’ll proceed?”

An Xuan asked curiously.

“Should I directly storm the Immortal Alliance’s headquarters to absorb that foreign Heavenly Dao’s blood? Or would it be better to impersonate that abomination in the Heilong Nebula?”

Lu Yao sought her opinion.

“If it’s only between those two, I believe the latter is wiser. We don’t know whether that remnant body is truly within the Alliance’s headquarters. Forcing our way in would be not only dangerous but would also alert them.”

An Xuan thought carefully before answering.

“That’s what I was thinking too.”

Lu Yao nodded approvingly. Although she now had power enough to disdain the entire Immortal Realm, who knew what kind of threats lurked in the Alliance’s main base? Prudence was best.

“Master, there is actually a third option. You could go directly to the Immortal Alliance and ‘recommend yourself’. Why bother impersonating an abomination? Your strength already meets their requirement.”

An Xuan put forth another suggestion.

Qi Huang agreed deeply. That would indeed avoid unnecessary detours.

“A zombie of the Heavenly Demon realm recommending itself? To the Alliance that would be like a weasel wishing the chickens a happy New Year. If you were them, would you so easily let me near the remnant body of the foreign Heavenly Dao?”

Lu Yao asked back.

“That makes sense.”

An Xuan nodded in agreement.

Qi Huang suddenly understood as well. Lu Yao’s concern was justified. To exact vengeance upon the Heavenly Dao, every step had to be taken with utmost caution.

‘But even with such careful planning, what good is it? Who knows if this path was already laid out in advance by the Heavenly Dao itself?’

Qi Huang felt an ominous premonition stir in her heart.

“Where exactly is this Heilong Nebula?”

Lu Yao asked directly.

“Uh… it is extremely far away, nearly at the edge of the entire Immortal Realm. Even at your speed, Master, I fear you would not reach it in a lifetime.”

An Xuan explained.

Qi Huang was startled. She knew all too well how fast Lu Yao could travel. If even she needed a lifetime to arrive, just how vast was the Immortal Realm?

“What? If it’s that far, how could the Immortal Alliance possibly go to capture that zombie?”

Lu Yao asked in surprise.

“Several of the powerful Immortal Kingdoms in the cultivation world have teleportation arrays. These incorporate the space-manipulating divine art of ‘shrinking ground into inches’. To reach the Heilong Nebula is but an instant’s matter.”

An Xuan explained.

“Excellent. We shall use a teleportation array to reach the Heilong Nebula, then seize the nest and impersonate that abomination.”

Lu Yao gave her orders.

Master and servant then set out toward a nearby Immortal Kingdom with a teleportation array. After several days, they arrived.

“Do we need to queue for the teleportation array?”

Lu Yao asked curiously.

“No. Although teleportation arrays are the only fast-travel method in the Immortal Realm, their cost is exorbitant. Few can afford such luxury, unless their destination is truly beyond mortal reach.”

An Xuan stated firmly.

But when the pair arrived, they found the place packed to the brim, overflowing with people.

Qi Huang was speechless, thinking An Xuan was far too unreliable.

“This is what you call no queue?”

Lu Yao asked darkly.

An Xuan had no reply and could only feign ignorance.

The two paid the fee and received a teleportation pass token bearing their transmission number.

They looked at it and found their number was already past one hundred thousand. At the rate of the array, it would take at least half a month for their turn.

“This can’t be right. When did the people of the Immortal Realm become so extravagant?”

An Xuan muttered, baffled.

Lu Yao sensed something amiss and secretly probed those around her. Soon she uncovered something stranger still: nine out of ten people waiting were also bound for the Heilong Nebula.

‘What’s going on?’

Qi Huang was left dumbfounded.

They checked into a nearby inn, where Lu Yao shared her findings with An Xuan.

“Impossible! The Heilong Nebula lies on the far edge of the Immortal Realm, so distant from here, and almost all its planets are barren and lifeless. We are going to seize a nest. What are they going there for?”

An Xuan asked, utterly puzzled.

Lu Yao frowned, then extended her senses through the entire inn. The place was full of travelers, the perfect source of information.

Soon, Lu Yao found a clue. In one of the rooms, a group of guests were discussing the matter.

“How strange! Why are so many people heading to the Heilong Nebula these days? I thought I could go there and pick up leftovers. But now the queue is over a hundred thousand. What leftovers can I still pick up?”

A mustached guest complained.

“You don’t know what they’re going there for?”

His companion asked curiously.

“What for?”

The mustached guest asked.

“There’s an incredibly powerful zombie there, at least at the Heavenly Demon level. They’re all going to kill that abomination!”

The companion whispered.
