Volume 10, Chapter 711 – The Day of Blood Descends (Part 4)

“Who are you?”

The male zombie noticed Lu Yao’s strikingly beautiful appearance, so he did not immediately attack.

“This is the last time. If you want to live, give up your lair and roll off to another planet.”

Lu Yao revealed a faint flash of fangs, ready to strike at any moment. When she arrived, she had already seen many cultivators heading this way, and at their speed, it would only take a few days before they reached this place.

“Beauty, why be so rough? If you want my den, just marry me. Then naturally, you’ll be the mistress here.”

The male zombie probed with his words. After all, in the Immortal Realm it was rare to encounter an evil spirit of his level. To him, the two of them seemed like a pair destined by heaven.

Lu Yao lost her patience. In an instant, her figure vanished from its spot, carrying a terrifying wave of Yin energy as she lunged toward the male zombie below. Her delicate fist was like a pair of sharp scissors, effortlessly cutting through the heavens and stirring terrifying ripples of space.

The male zombie dared not be careless. Resentment surged in his eyes as he stomped the ground apart, gathering all his strength and yin energy into his right hand. He threw his fist upward to meet her.

BANG!

A large fist and a small fist collided without any flourish. The space between them compressed and shattered, splitting into several scars of space that swept across in every direction like lightning, annihilating everything in their path.

CRACK!

Though the male zombie’s fist was massive, it could not withstand the ferocious recoil. It exploded like an overripe watermelon, and the arm beneath it crumbled as well, breaking apart joint by joint.

But it didn’t stop there. Lu Yao’s terrifying force, unstoppable as a landslide, poured into the male zombie’s body. He was smashed deep into the earth, like a massive boulder hurled into a calm lake.

BOOM!

The surrounding soil erupted into towering waves, sweeping outward in all directions. Everything within three hundred li was instantly destroyed. Countless giant cracks spread like a spider’s web, triggering quakes large and small. The entire planet trembled as if the end of days had arrived.

“Unbelievable! In today’s Immortal Realm, there’s still an evil spirit stronger than me!”

The male zombie knelt at the center of the massive crater, trembling violently, his face twisted with unwillingness.

“Now, are you ready to leave?”

Lu Yao looked down at the pit, her gaze cold as she asked the battered male zombie.

“PFFFT!”

Wounded beyond repair, the male zombie could no longer suppress it. He spat out a mouthful of black blood.

Feeling utterly humiliated, his will to fight collapsed. He stomped the ground, his body shot skyward, and he vanished from Lu Yao’s sight.

‘One day you’ll thank me.’

Lu Yao thought this as she watched him go. The reasoning was simple: if he had stayed here, once those immortals seeking to defy heaven arrived, he would surely die. In a way, she was saving him.

Not long after, An Xuan carefully descended and asked Lu Yao, “Master, what about that zombie?”

“I chased him off.”

Lu Yao answered casually.

“I thought you would kill him!”

An Xuan sounded surprised.

“Why would I kill him without reason? Evil spirits already stand in opposition to the Heavenly Dao. If I killed him, it would only please our enemies.”

Lu Yao explained.

“That’s true.”

An Xuan nodded in agreement, then asked again, “So what do you plan to do next?”

“Of course, I’ll disguise myself as the source of Yin energy on this Tianhan Planet, and wait for the Immortal Alliance to come and ‘invite’ us.”

Lu Yao spoke casually. The Yin energy within her surged like a tidal wave, spreading in all directions until it enveloped the entire planet’s surface. With that, her plan to usurp the lair was complete.

“Before the Immortal Alliance arrives, we’ll likely still have to face those cultivators who come to kill you.”

An Xuan reminded her.

“Let them come. I can use the chance to study killing intent. I’ve said it before, whoever dares block my path to vengeance against the Heavenly Dao, I’ll use their corpse as my stepping stone.”

Lu Yao’s expression turned cold.

“It’s a pity they’re all cultivators. Otherwise, since they also want to defy heaven, perhaps they could be allies.”

An Xuan said with some regret.

“Identity is a small matter. What matters is that the Heavenly Dao knows all and sees all. The more people gather, the greater the target. That’s not a good thing. And how many of them are truly resolute in rebelling against heaven? I won’t risk partnering with duplicitous cowards.”

Lu Yao added.

“Alas, the path of defying heaven seems destined to be lonely.”

An Xuan sighed.

“It’s not lonely. At least there are two of us, right? Before I met you, most of the time I walked this road alone.”

Lu Yao reminded her, though her heart inevitably stirred with memories of her parents and family. Her long-dead heart clenched with pain, and her resolve for vengeance grew even stronger.

“Yes! I will always stay by your side.”

An Xuan said with emotion.

Ten days later, powerful immortals began arriving at Tianhan Planet. Yet none dared to descend to the surface. Instead, they lingered inside and outside the atmosphere, perhaps aware that their actions risked opposing the Immortal Alliance. Most concealed their faces.

Another ten days passed, and hundreds of thousands of immortals and cultivators had gathered in Tianhan Planet’s skies. They had already locked onto Lu Yao’s location, but none dared make a move. Most were there to pick up the spoils, waiting patiently for someone with rebellion in their heart to act first.

Among those with the intent to defy heaven, not all had firm resolve like Lu Yao. Most came with a mindset of testing the waters: if they could kill, so be it; if not, they would leave. Their cultivation was low, their heavenly tribulations and death tribulations not yet arrived, and time was still on their side.

Another ten days slipped by, and the Day of Blood finally arrived. Now, the immortals surrounding Tianhan Planet numbered in the millions. They had come from every corner of the Immortal Realm, sealing the planet so tightly that not even a gap remained. None wished to give up, yet none wanted to be the first to act.

“Brother, should we go down and test the evil spirit’s strength? If no one acts, the Immortal Alliance will arrive.”

A burly immortal asked his elder brother beside him.

“Are you stupid? The Tianjizi prophesied that the ‘Blood River’ begins today. That means it’s the death tribulation for many cultivators. Judging by things, the place is most likely this Tianhan Planet. Who knows if we can even survive it? If you strike rashly, you’ll invite disaster!”

His elder brother scolded.

“So we just wait like this? Once the Immortal Alliance comes, who will dare act? When they clear away the invading Heavenly Dao’s power, how can we pursue immortality?”

The burly immortal asked anxiously.

“The emperor isn’t anxious, but the eunuch is? Those whose death tribulation has arrived aren’t in a rush, why are you?”

His elder brother snapped.

The burly cultivator fell silent, pacing restlessly with unease.

“Master, are they going to act or not? If they wait any longer, the Immortal Alliance will arrive.”

An Xuan glanced at the dense masses of immortals outside the atmosphere.

“Do you want them to act?”

Lu Yao asked curiously.

“Of course not. The fewer troubles, the better.”

An Xuan replied instinctively.

Qi Huang felt the same. She only wanted Lu Yao to smoothly go with the Immortal Alliance and drink the blood of the Heavenly Dao’s remains. Only then could she quickly learn how to wield the power of assimilation.

“I actually hope some blind fool attacks me. That way, I can comprehend killing intent faster!”

Lu Yao said, her face full of expectation.

“Ah?”

An Xuan’s little face wrinkled up. Before becoming a zombie, she had only been a Master-grade immortal. Seeing such an immense gathering, she naturally felt dread.

“It’s fine. Just stay here quietly later. I guarantee no one will harm you in the slightest!”

Lu Yao said with complete confidence.

“Fellow immortals, is no one going to act?”

Just then, an aged voice resounded across the heavens.

Lu Yao extended her senses outward. She saw a hunched figure appear thousands of zhang above. Like the others, he hid his face, looking unimpressive, yet his voice shook the very space, echoing far, unstoppable even by the vacuum.

“So it is the arrival of the Xuanwu Immortal Emperor! Forgive us for not welcoming you sooner!”

Thousands of li away, a burly masked man bellowed back with a thunderous voice.

“What Xuanwu Immortal Emperor? Who is that? This old man knows nothing of what you speak!”

The old man immediately denied it. Coming to kill the evil spirit on Tianhan Planet meant opposing the Immortal Alliance. For safety’s sake, no one was foolish enough to reveal their true identity.

“Not so? Never mind then. Since you’re here, why don’t you lead the charge?”

The burly man extended an invitation.

“Why should I lead the charge? You’ve all been here for so long, why haven’t you acted?”

The hunched elder, suspected to be the Xuanwu Immortal Emperor, shot back.

“Don’t want to? Then just sit and watch with me. Let’s see who can outlast the other. Once the Immortal Alliance arrives, we’ll all just go back to our own homes.”

The burly man replied nonchalantly.

The Xuanwu Immortal Emperor fell silent. His years were many, and his death tribulation was near. If he wanted to defy heaven, he had no choice but to seek the invading Heavenly Dao’s power. That meant the zombie of Tianhan Planet could not be allowed to fall into the hands of the Immortal Alliance.

After a long pause, he finally relented: “Fellow immortals, eliminating evil and upholding the Dao has always been our duty. This evil spirit on Tianhan Planet is so powerful that if left unchecked, it will soon threaten the mortals of neighboring planets. My heart is kind; I cannot watch such tragedy unfold. For the sake of the common folk, I will take the lead today. I hope you will all lend me your strength!”
