Volume 11, Chapter 737 – Cheng Hongling, Are You Crazy?

“Yes! Big sister!”

Qi Huang answered without hesitation. After being mentally assimilated by Cheng Ling, she was purely a puppet, with no thought of resistance.

Qi Huang accepted the order, and three soul tethers shot out at once; in the blink of an eye they pulled the unlucky trio Huang Tian, Huang Di, and Huang Ren to her side.

“What happened?”

The three men looked at one another, then quickly recovered and bolted for the exit in a panic.

Quick-eyed and quick-handed, Qi Huang fired the three soul tethers again, forcibly yanking the three male souls back.

The three male souls went pale with terror and struggled desperately, but even the strongest among them, Huang Ren, was only at the peak of the Divine Realm and could not possibly break free.

“Big brother, it’s only been less than a meal, why are you turning your back on us already?”

Huang Ren forced a grin more pitiful than crying; he was the strongest of the three, yet beneath the main body he was as helpless as a baby.

Qi Huang showed no reaction. Having been assimilated, she was effectively a replica of Cheng Ling and likewise did not want any males within her incarnation.

“Big brother, didn’t you ask me to look after our parents? Have you forgotten?”

Huang Tian shouted in panic, trying to rouse the host’s consciousness with appeals to family ties.

“Yes, yes, if anything happens to us, who will take care of our parents?”

Huang Di echoed excitedly; he—

Qi Huang remained indifferent. As Cheng Ling’s split-self she could not possibly feel affection for the parents of “Qi Huang”; instead there was an unnameable disgust.

“Stop wasting breath. She is no longer your big brother; she is this immortal’s little sister.”

Cheng Ling sneered repeatedly.

“What exactly do you want to do?”

Huang Tian demanded, his tone fierce but his heart timid.

“To put it plainly, I’ll occupy your main body and become your Life Soul.”

Cheng Ling spoke bluntly.

“Congratulations! Congratulations! How does that concern us? We can’t resist you anyway!”

Huang Tian asked with a hopeful tone; the other two male souls nodded like chicks pecking rice.

“That’s right, you truly can’t resist me.”

Cheng Ling narrowed her phoenix-like eyes slightly, then continued, “But I’m a woman, and a woman with cleanliness standards at that. I absolutely won’t allow male presences within my soul, so I’ve decided to assimilate you all into sisters.”

“Is that necessary? As the saying goes, opposites attract. Keeping us three as vases isn’t so bad.”

Huang Ren hastened to plead.

“That’s the narrow view. Broadly speaking, the cultivation world already suffers from a gender imbalance and women are looked down upon. If you turn me into a woman, wouldn’t that be demeaning me?”

Huang Di spoke with reasoned analysis.

“Even larger, gender is innate. If you change us into women, aren’t you afraid the Heavenly Dao will notice? You must be careful.”

Huang Tian racked his brains for more points, desperate to cling to masculine pride.

“Hmph, the Heavenly Dao? Wait until it wakes up, then we’ll talk.”

Cheng Ling snorted carelessly, then looked at Cheng Hongling with ill intent and said, “Once I turn you three into sisters, it’s their turn.”

“We’re already women; what else do you want?”

Cheng Hongling’s figure asked in a low voice.

“You are indeed women, but you’re disobedient! I must make you as obedient as Qi Huang and the others.”

Cheng Ling raised one graceful brow.

“Ambitious, aren’t you.”

Cheng Hongling mocked.

“Not ambition. You are me and I am you; you should know my temperament, decisive, and extinguishing future trouble once and for all.”

Cheng Ling rose elegantly, then walked to the three male souls and said leisurely, “I’ll assimilate the three of you first, then slowly handle my family matters.”

“Cheng Ling! Cheng Ling! As you said, you are me and I am you. Do you think I’m the kind to sit and wait to die?”

Cheng Hongling suddenly looked up and laughed.

“Of course not, but I’m also certain you can’t make any waves now. With Qi Huang present you can’t even leave this Sea of Consciousness hall. Apart from accepting fate, what else can you do? I almost pity you.”

Cheng Ling put on a false lament.

“I may not be able to make waves now, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t before.”

Cheng Hongling gave a smile that chilled the blood.

At that moment, Cheng Ling suddenly frowned, showing a trace of discomfort.

“What? You felt it?”

The corner of Cheng Hongling’s mouth lifted.

“What did you do?”

Cheng Ling pressed a hand against her chest where she felt unease.

“What’s going on? I feel stabbing pains in my chest, my heart feels like it’s being pricked by needles.”

“We are soul bodies, where does pain come from?”

“No, Third Sister, didn’t you feel it? I feel so painful too!”

“I didn’t!”

“Me neither!”

“What’s going on? Why do only the corporeal souls feel pain, but the ethereal souls don’t?”

Cheng Hongling’s female souls were thrown into chaos. Among the remaining two ethereal souls and four corporeal souls, four of the corporeal ones felt the same discomfort, while the Earthly Soul and Humanly Soul were unaffected.

“What did I do?”

Cheng Hongling’s mocking smile appeared. “Heh heh, I only wanted to show you, main body is main body, mere souls are just that. You’ll never be able to trample on my head.”

Cheng Ling stopped arguing, clenched her teeth against the pain, and fell into thought, murmuring, “The ethereal souls are fine, but the corporeal souls feel discomfort… What’s going on?”

“Not good!”

A moment later Cheng Ling suddenly realized something, and she turned to Qi Huang: “You hurry out and see what’s happening to this body.”

“Yes!”

Qi Huang obeyed, then strode out of the Sea of Consciousness hall with elegant, swift steps.

“Sisters of the souls, forgive me. I fear I can’t keep my promise to you.”

Cheng Hongling suddenly turned to the other souls.

“Big sister, why are you apologizing all of a sudden? What’s going on? Why do we feel so awful?”

The Heavenly Surge Soul asked in confusion.

“Yes! And yet the two souls are completely fine.”

The Earthly Soul glanced at the Humanly Soul and spoke.

Cheng Hongling did not explain; apology on her face, she sank into silence.

By now, Qi Huang had arrived in the real world within the spatial ring. Using her Divine Sense, she carefully examined the main body’s condition.

Moments later Qi Huang’s eyes widened in horror; at some unknown moment Cheng Hongling had stopped suppressing that strange shard over the heart. The shard was now releasing terrifying black blood, ravenously corrupting the main body. Where it spread, miasma swirled and vitality withered; it had already devoured the entire chest and was rapidly spreading outward.

Though Qi Huang bore no fondness for Cheng Hongling after being assimilated, this was still her “big sister’s” body. If it died, the seven corporeal souls, including Cheng Ling, would instantly dissipate. Only the life soul and the three ethereal souls (Heaven, Earth, Human) might survive.

Qi Huang now fully understood Cheng Hongling’s intent. She knew she absolutely must not let the body be harmed, but how to stop it? She possessed powerful divine sense, yet in this situation it was utterly ineffective.

Helpless, Qi Huang immediately reported the body’s condition to Cheng Ling within the Sea of Consciousness.

“What?”

Upon hearing this Cheng Ling lost her composure, staring at Cheng Hongling in shock: “Are you insane? You’d really go as far as perishing together just to deal with me?”

“Strange? You are me and I am you, you should know my character.”

Cheng Hongling retorted.

Cheng Ling was stumped by the rebuke. As the bodily pain intensified she fretted like ants on a hot pan, then her expression shifted and she began to sow discord: “Cheng Hongling, you are so cruel! You can be cold and merciless to me, but what about them?”

Cheng Ling pointed at the four innocent souls, “They are innocent. You promised to let them become doppelgängers; now you make them accompany me in burial, do you have any conscience at all?”
