Volume 11, Chapter 761 – Seven Terrifying Doppelgängers (Part 2)

“Whether it’s right or not isn’t important; what’s important is that you follow orders.”

Qi Huang answered offhandedly.

“How can that not be important? It’s very important, okay? If one of your doppelgängers can also have doppelgängers, then couldn’t your doppelgänger have its own doppelgänger? What about the doppelgänger of your doppelgänger? If this keeps going on, over time won’t the cultivation world be filled with copies of you?”

Ning Wuxia kept peppering her with questions, unable to let it go. After all, this completely upended her understanding of how things worked.

Ning Xu was an old fox; his eyes rolled for a moment, then he signaled his daughter to be quiet and went on, “It really isn’t important. doppelgängers having doppelgängers is totally normal; it’s your daughter who’s lacking in experience!”

Ning Wuxia opened her mouth to argue, then stopped, and obediently shut it.

Afraid the Immortal Alliance would cause trouble, Ning Xu quickly set off for home with his daughter. Traveling with them was one of Qi Huang’s doppelgängers, Huang Tian.

Qi Huang fell into thought. She was about to go provoke the Immortal Alliance; to make her actions appear as righteous as possible, it was time to expose all of the Alliance’s crimes.

She told Cheng Hongling her plan.

“If you want to expose every crime the Immortal Alliance has committed, you’ll need the cooperation of the people involved. But the moment they step forward they’ll face the Alliance’s threats and reprisals, just like what happened to Jin Xue and the others before. Have you thought about how to protect these people?” Cheng Hongling warned.

“No problem. I currently have seven doppelgängers whose divine senses have reached at least mid Heavenly-Retribution Realm; I only sent out one just now, so six remain. Besides, I can strike anywhere in the cultivation world at any time. That’s more than enough to guarantee their safety.”

Qi Huang explained confidently. In fact, with her current strength, even without doppelgängers she could protect all her family and friends; she could strike any place in the cultivation world at will.

Cheng Hongling relaxed on hearing that. She had only meant to remind her.

Qi Huang then notified everyone she knew who had grievances against the Immortal Alliance, instructing them to spread word of the organization’s crimes. That list included princesses like Jin Xue and Tang Yuning, who had been forcibly taken as bait, and also evil spirits secretly harmed by the Alliance such as Zhen Feiyan and Jiang Feng.

Though Jin Xue, Tang Yuning and the others hated the Immortal Alliance with a passion, they dared not rashly put themselves forward.

Qi Huang understood their hesitation, so she released three of her doppelgängers, the Spiritual Wisdom Soul, the Qi Soul, and the Strength Soul.

“Huang Ling, go find Jin Xue. Protect her and that country’s safety; let her spread the Alliance’s crimes to her heart’s content.” Qi Huang first commanded the Spiritual Wisdom Soul.

“Yes, Big Sister!”

The Spiritual Wisdom Soul, Huang Ling, bent the knee and accepted the order.

“Huang Qi, Huang Li, you two go to Tang Yuning and Ouyang Yi respectively. Same objective as Huang Ling. Understood?”

Qi Huang next commanded the Qi Soul and the Strength Soul.

“Yes, Big Sister!”

They respectfully accepted.

The three doppelgängers set out, each heading toward Zhongzhou.

Qi Huang then released her Central Core Soul and Essence Soul, ordering in turn, “Huang Shu, go to the imperial capital. Lin Ran and the safety of the entire Western Radiance Dynasty are entrusted to you! Huang Jing, go to the Mingyue Empire. If I’m right, with the Huarong Sect’s deterrence weakening, many unruly elements, evil spirits, and even the Immortal Alliance will act recklessly. Your mission is to gather intelligence and protect civilians from harm. Understand?”

“Yes, Big Sister!”

Huang Shu and Huang Jing also accepted respectfully and departed.

Qi Huang summoned her final Vigor Soul and instructed, “Huang Ying, go to Wuye City and monitor every move of the Immortal Alliance. Report to me at all times.”

“Yes!”

Huang Ying saluted with heroic bearing and accepted.

With everything arranged, Qi Huang felt considerably lighter. Although her divine sense could cover the whole Lishui Star, she could not maintain it non-stop forever. Even the strongest had limits.

“You really are good at slacking off, handing everything to your doppelgängers. What do you do, then?” Cheng Hongling teased from beside her.

“Me? Of course I have to take the lead. If I don’t step out first to expose the Alliance’s crimes, how would others dare to follow?” Qi Huang stroked Guanghua’s chin as she said it.

Qi Huang put her words into action. The next day, in her capacity as National Preceptor, she publicly revealed the Immortal Alliance’s treatment of the Honghua Sect, immediately causing a storm of outrage throughout the Western Radiance Dynasty.

With Qi Huang taking the lead and her doppelgängers backing her, friends and acquaintances who held grudges against the Immortal Alliance quickly followed suit and spread the word of the Alliance’s many crimes.

But that wasn’t all. As more voices rose against the Immortal Alliance, people who had been harmed by the organization came forward to denounce it, and in short order the matter sparked a sizable upheaval.

At the Immortal Alliance’s main hall, Lu Lin sat on the throne with a dark expression. Bad news continuously reached his ears.

“Master, that doppelgänger of Cheng Hongling has publicly revealed some unsavory things our Alliance did in the Western Radiance Dynasty. We can’t confirm the truth, but it has nonetheless stirred great popular wrath.”

An elder reported.

“How dare she slander the Alliance! She wants to fight us to the death, how dare she?” The senior leaders showed stunned faces.

“Not only that, the lowly people of Huangtian County refuse to hand over their children, and that empress of the Western Radiance Dynasty keeps insisting she’ll stand with them and has declared the Immortal Alliance an illegal organization!”

The elder added.

“An illegal organization?”

The senior ranks were utterly dumbstruck. They had never imagined someone in the cultivation world would be so brazen.

“Good! Very good!” Lu Lin’s expression twisted into a smile. “It seems our Alliance used to be far too merciful, so that any tomcat or flea dares to bark. Order given in my name: the mission on the first day of next month changes from destroying the Honghua Sect and Shuiyu Valley to annihilating the Western Radiance Dynasty!”

“Yes! The Master is wise. It’s time to give those fools a painful lesson.”

The high-ranking members rubbed their hands, as if they had already forgotten the matter of the deputy master being killed.

“Master, the royal families of Taiping and Lei who once slandered the Alliance have gone back on their words, claiming we secretly abduct girls as bait.”

Another elder reported.

“Seems more people are courting disaster than we thought.” Lu Lin’s jaw worked as he said, “Order: all immortal gates within those countries must withdraw within a month, or they’ll be removed from the Alliance altogether! Also, covertly send disciples to eliminate those faithless royal family members.”

“Yes!”

The elder accepted the order.

“Elder Cao, what about you? Weren’t you sent to trouble the Ning family?”

Lu Lin asked, curious, staring at the silent Cao Kun.

“Master, don’t mention it! That matter makes me furious. No matter how I pressed them, the Ning family only responded with ‘we don’t know’ to dismiss us.”

Cao Kun panted with anger.

“‘Don’t know’? They think ‘don’t know’ is going to dismiss us? They never show remorse until the coffin appears. Rest assured, I’ll send people to beat them in secret. I’d like to see how hard they can keep their mouths shut.”

Lu Lin soothed him, then asked another gaunt elder, “Elder Qiu, how is the situation at the Huarong Sect now? The disciples must be as anxious as ants on a hot pan now that they know the sect’s Immortal Stele is a sham.”

“Indeed. Those disciples don’t dare step outside the sect. Ordinary people suffering from evil-spirit invasions complain loudly, yet the Huarong Sect’s leadership insists the Immortal Stele remains intact to stabilize morale. That ‘Holy Maiden’, Cheng Hongling’s doppelgänger, still wants to find an opportunity to go out and prove the claim true. Many who bear grudges against Huarong lie in wait; the moment she steps outside, they’ll strike her down.”

The gaunt elder reported.

“This is good news. Even if Cheng Hongling herself is a Heavenly-Retribution Realm expert, her doppelgänger isn’t that formidable. If those people succeed, they can help us eliminate a serious thorn.”

Lu Lin’s tight brow finally relaxed.

“That said, this Holy Maiden hides in Huarong and hasn’t shown herself. No one knows whether she’ll honor her promise.”

Elder Qiu answered uncertainly.

“Quite a coward, huh? Then I’ll set her cave entrance on fire and see if she comes out!”

Lu Lin sneered.
