Volume 11, Chapter 764 – I, Am the Immortal Might (Part 3)

The reason Huarong Sect was able to dominate the entire Mingyue Empire was not because of its numbers, but because of its high-level combat strength. Now, however, its most powerful cultivator, Hua Man, was being held back by the fiendish presence within Panyun Mountain’s Bottomless Pit. The Sect Master had led the elders to protect the Holy Maiden, leaving behind nothing but a flock of little sheep. Not only did they lack a backbone, but even in numbers they were vastly outmatched by the enemies gathered at the mountain’s base.

“What should we do?”

Seeing the dense crowd of enemies below, not only were the civilians living in the sect so terrified they cried for their mothers, even the tens of thousands of female disciples had lost their composure.

“Sisters, don’t be afraid! We still have the Immortal Stele guarding us.”

At this moment, Xiang Jun from Biyu Peak shouted aloud. Since this matter had begun with her Niece Cheng Hongling, as an elder, she naturally had to do something to uphold the sect’s dignity.

The disciples steadied themselves somewhat at her words, though traces of panic still lingered on their faces.

“But… but those people outside are all saying the Immortal Stele of our Huarong Sect is nothing but an empty shell now.”

“Yes, if they didn’t have definite information, how would they dare to invade Huarong Sect?”

“Hurry and notify the Sect Master! If we delay, it’ll be too late.”

The female disciples discussed in confusion and despair.

“Do not panic. The Holy Maiden said the Immortal Stele is intact, so it is certainly intact. They are simply marching to their deaths.”

Xiang Jun’s voice was firm and powerful. She had complete trust in her Niece as well.

Qi Huang observed everything quietly. She knew that even if she herself didn’t inform Hua Ruyi, the disciples left behind would surely cry for help using the Thousand-Mile Communication Tube. That was absolutely not an outcome she wanted.

After some thought, Qi Huang turned to Cheng Hongling at her side. “Wife, the enemy wants to create a diversion and split off part of their forces to attack Huarong Sect. Those left behind will certainly call Hua Ruyi for help. Tell Cheng Tian to inform the Sect Master to focus fully on heading to Panyun Mountain’s Bottomless Pit. The safety of Huarong Sect will be in our hands.”

“That’s not the point… Why do you insist on making Hua Ruyi go along with Cheng Tian? And another thing… don’t call me wife, call me husband.”

Cheng Hongling questioned while correcting her.

“There are two reasons. First, Hua Ruyi is the Sect Master of Huarong Sect. I need her to see with her own eyes that Huarong Sect is still guarded by Immortal Might. Second, and more importantly, if she tried to rush back, for safety’s sake she would surely drag Cheng Tian with her. That kind of back-and-forth would drag on endlessly. I’m still waiting to set up a flowing banquet outside the Immortal Alliance’s main hall, I’ve no time to play house with them.”

Qi Huang explained patiently.

“In other words, the first reason is that you stubbornly want to show off your power before others; the second is simply that you don’t want to waste time, correct?”

Cheng Hongling’s eyes gleamed as she summed it up.

“My wife understands me best!”

Qi Huang was deeply moved.

Cheng Hongling found herself half laughing, half exasperated, then asked with concern: “But haven’t you thought about this? Those people attacking Huarong Sect will surely act in advance. If you use Divine Sense to deal with them, and if it’s too strong and mistaken for the Immortal Stele, then those on the other side and those following behind Cheng Tian and the Immortal Alliance will be too frightened to act.”

“Don’t worry, I know my limits. Your husband here doesn’t only fight with Divine Sense.”

Qi Huang blinked mischievously, and suddenly the countless strands of her long black hair surged outward, stabbing into the ground like writhing worms. They burrowed through the earth toward the direction of Huarong Sect in South Continent. Because of their immense power, they tore through the air itself, ignoring all obstructions along the way, moving with lightning speed.

Cheng Hongling relaxed somewhat and promptly relayed instructions to Cheng Tian.

Sure enough, Hua Ruyi soon received a distress call from the disciples left behind. She showed no surprise, only muttered helplessly: “Exactly what I feared has come to pass.”

“What is it, Sect Master Hua?”

The nearby Shi Yuqi asked in puzzlement.

“Those villains and fiendish spirits saw me beside the Holy Maiden, so they’ve diverted to attack Huarong Sect instead. There are hundreds of thousands of them.”

Hua Ruyi steadied her voice.

“What? Hundreds of thousands?”

Shi Yuqi and several elders froze in shock, as if turned into puppets.

“Before we set out, I already suspected they might use such a tactic. But to protect the Holy Maiden, I could only grit my teeth and press on. Now that the very thing we dreaded has happened, we must give up on Panyun Mountain for now and hurry back to provide support.”

Hua Ruyi made her decision quickly.

“Yes, yes, home matters most. Going to Panyun Mountain a day or two later won’t matter.”

An elder chimed in.

“May I ask, Sect Master Hua, what good will returning now do? Even if you repel the attackers this time, what about the next time? If I go to Panyun Mountain again, will you follow? If you follow, those villains will just seize the chance to raid home again. If you don’t follow, can you rest easy letting me go to Panyun Mountain’s Bottomless Pit alone?”

Cheng Tian’s words struck like a soul-deep question.

“But… I can’t just watch our home be destroyed and our disciples slaughtered! Saving them must come first.”

Hua Ruyi struggled with the choice.

“No need. Just now my main body said she would guard Huarong Sect. You only need to follow me to Panyun Mountain.”

Cheng Tian relayed the instruction from her main body to stop Hua Ruyi.

“What? Isn’t she hundreds of thousands of miles away in Honghua Sect? How could she protect Huarong Sect?”

Hua Ruyi asked in shock.

“Who told you she was in Honghua Sect?”

Cheng Tian shot back, impatient.

“You mean she’s already in Huarong Sect?”

Hua Ruyi asked, half in disbelief.

“Believe it or not.”

Cheng Tian had no patience left.

Qi Huang, however, understood Hua Ruyi’s caution. After all, this was the matter of life and death for the entire sect. She directly extended her Divine Sense and transmitted to Hua Ruyi: “Sect Master Hua, I am Qi Huang. Do you believe I’m in Huarong Sect now?”

“You truly are in Huarong Sect!”

Hua Ruyi rejoiced. Since telepathic communication through Divine Sense was only possible within the range covered, even a Heavenly Tribulation cultivator had to be within Mingyue Empire itself to speak so.

“Everyone, continue forward!”

With her doubts settled, Hua Ruyi gave the order.

Meanwhile, more and more villains gathered at the foot of Huarong Sect’s mountain.

“Everyone, I don’t need to tell you what sect sits atop this mountain, do I? That’s right, it’s Huarong Sect, the greatest female sect in the cultivation world. Inside live tens of thousands of women with spiritual talent. Catch just one, and you can sell her in the mortal world for a fortune. I’m sure men and women, living or dead, would all be interested.”

A booming male voice rang out. The speaker was a burly warrior holding a battle-axe.

“That man is right. More importantly, Huarong Sect has already been expelled from the Immortal Alliance. We can come and go here as freely as we do a latrine. No need to fear revenge, no need to fear reinforcements. We can stay inside as long as we please.”

On the other side, a zombie covered in golden corpse markings rasped in agreement.

“What a strange day, never thought I’d fight shoulder to shoulder with a dead man!”

The axe-wielder sneered at himself, then roared: “Brothers and sisters, charge! Leave not a chicken nor dog alive, take everything!”

As his words fell, he spurred his horse up toward Huarong Sect. Behind him surged countless figures: men, beasts, the living, the dead. Like ants climbing a tree, they scrambled toward the mountain’s peak. In some areas the fiends were dense, their Yin energy billowing. In others, the living crowded, their Yang energy blazing. Yin and yang entangled, and suddenly gales roared, thunder and lightning splitting the skies.

Huarong Sect became an isolated island battered by waves of enemies crashing upward in fury.

“Wuu wuu wuu… Save us… Patriarch Hua Yan, save us!”

The female disciples of Huarong Sect were so frightened by this terrifying momentum that their very souls seemed to flee. Many collapsed onto the ground, praying desperately for the protection of the Immortal Stele’s master, Patriarch Hua Yan.

Even Xiang Jun’s expression turned pale. When the enemy had stood still earlier, it had been hard to gauge. But now that they were storming toward the sect, the sheer impact was on an entirely different level.

“Niece, don’t let your aunt down!”

Xiang Jun silently prayed as she gazed at the surging enemy tide.

Just as disaster seemed imminent, the foremost attackers suddenly collapsed like harvested wheat.

“What’s going on?”

Those behind instinctively halted, confusion plain on their faces.

The female disciples of Huarong Sect stared dumbly at the sight, tears running into their mouths unnoticed.

Thud, thud…

Before anyone could react, another great wave of villains and fiends toppled over.

“Look, everyone! Those faint traces fading in the air, what are they? Are those spatial fissure?”

At last, someone saw the truth.
