Volume 12, Chapter 782 – She Can Only Be a Cao Family Daughter-in-law
“Not a chance I’m handing them over. What will you do?”
The sect’s leader refused stubbornly. From the registration information one could tell his surname was Tie and his given name Hui; he led the Jintang Sect in Central Continent.
Although Jintang was a minor sect in Central Continent, placed inside the Western Radiance Dynasty it ranked among the very powerful. His cultivation reaching the early Divine Realm already suggested as much.
“Bring the Nine Nether Demon Cats! We’re leaving!”
Tie Hui immediately ordered his disciples to prepare to flee.
“Think carefully. If you leave now, you’ll lose the qualification to join the Dao Alliance, and you’ll never receive anyone’s protection again.”
Qi Huang warned again.
“Who cares?”
Tie Hui remained stubborn.
“True, our Jintang Sect isn’t strong, but being located in the safe land of the Xianlin Empire, we don’t need anyone’s protection.”
An elder voiced agreement. The other disciples seized the three badly wounded Nine Nether Demon Cats in the sect, preparing to take them away.
Meow meow meow…
The three demon cats struggled desperately; Yao Yao’s large eyes were filled with heartbreaking helplessness.
“Xianlin Empire? No wonder you’re so bold!”
Qi Huang realized, this Xianlin Empire had once hosted the Immortal Alliance’s main altar; there should be no powerful demonic forces there.
“You’re asking for death!”
Yao Yao exploded in rage. Her human form began to shrink rapidly and soon she became a black Nine Nether demon cat. Vertical pupils glowed with unsettling crimson resentment; every hair on her body bristled, sinister qi swirling around her and eating into the ground. Ten-centimeter fangs protruded from her mouth, giving her a ferocious look.
Qi Huang did not stop her, this was the moment someone had to step forward and make an example.
In the next instant, Yao Yao’s figure abruptly vanished from sight; not one person present could track her with the naked eye. The reason was simple: seven or eight years had passed; her strength now equaled a high-level cultivator at the late Divine Realm, the very tip of the pyramid in the cultivation world.
Tie Hui’s expression changed. He reflexively released his divine sense to probe, but found nothing. Only then did he realize how foolish he’d been: the Nine Nether Demon Cats could naturally block divine sense.

Refusing to surrender, Tie Hui’s True Qi surged from every pore in his body and, in the blink of an eye, formed a gleaming metallic armor over his skin.
By then Yao Yao had already leapt close. Her dense fur shot out like steel needles, rat-a-tat piercing into Tie’s armor. The attached sinister qi was domineering, rapidly corroding the metal plating.
The armor on Tie Hui melted away as if terrified by scorching sun. Alarmed, he drew his sword and lunged at Yao Yao.
Yao Yao made no move to evade. Her sharp right claw thrust forward, seizing the blade, then she applied a little force.
Crack!
The sword in Tie Hui’s hand snapped in an instant.
Yao Yao gripped the broken half of the blade and, with the hilt pressed against Tie Hui’s neck, the small cat mouth spoke with a human voice: “Either you let them go, or you die. Your choice!”
Tie Hui trembled all over, begging and stammering, “Spare me! I let them go! I let them go!”
The Jintang disciples, seeing their sect leader captured, reluctantly handed over the three Nine Nether Demon Cats.
“Hmph, refuse a friendly cup and you’ll get a punitive one!”
Yao Yao snorted coldly.
Thanks to Yao Yao’s intimidation, turning over the demon cats went much more smoothly.
“Father-in-law… father-in-law… it’s bad… your son and grandson were taken!”
That evening, Lü Yi’s mother, Madam Zhuo, stumbled into the courtyard gate at the back mountain, breathless.
“What did you say?”
In the next moment Lü Dao appeared before his daughter-in-law.
“Father-in-law, your son and grandson were taken by that Cheng Hongling…”

Madam Zhuo tearfully recounted what had happened at the Immortal Alliance main altar. Of course she was repeating what she’d heard from others.
“She really destroyed the Immortal Alliance? How is that possible? The Alliance Leader’s power is unfathomable, and there are several elders from immortal clans under him. How could that little demoness pull it off?”
Lü Dao widened his old eyes.
“I… I heard witnesses say that girl can block Immortal Might.”
Madam Zhuo wiped her tears as she spoke.
“Impossible. Even Heaven-Deceiving Water couldn’t block the strike from the Immortal Stele. That’s been proven, Immortal Steles are erected on feng shui treasures, using heaven and earth as their eyes.”
Lü Dao immediately expressed skepticism.
“Daughter-in-law… I’m not clear either, but Father-in-law, now is not the time to debate about the stele. You must find a way to rescue my husband and son.”
Madam Zhuo wailed and begged.
“Don’t worry, they’re my son and grandson too.”
Lü Dao hurried to soothe her. After a moment’s thought he said, “I’ll send people to the Honghua Sect right away to ask how they can release Lü Gao and Lü Yi.”
“Aren’t you going in person?”
Madam Zhuo asked instinctively.
“Me? What good would that do? Even the Immortal Alliance Leader is no match for that little demoness. If I died at her hands, the Lü family would have no hope left.”
Lü Dao showed agitation, clearly afraid of death.
“Ah, yes, yes, then thank you, Father-in-law.”
Madam Zhuo recovered her composure and kowtowed. Her mind calmed a little and she suddenly remembered another thing. “Right, Father-in-law, that little demoness also spread the word that she’ll come to uproot our Lü family’s Immortal Stele on the first day of next month!”
“Uproot the stele? Has she gone mad? How dare she! Our Lü family’s stele has not only baseline immortal protection, but ancestral blessing, and it’s supported by a feng shui treasure. By what right could she uproot it?”
Lü Dao scoffed; uprooting a stele was absurd and unheard of.
“Daughter-in-law doesn’t know. She said so; everyone watching at the Immortal Alliance main altar heard it.”

Madam Zhuo shook her head.
“Fine. If she wants to die, let her come. Our priority is to find out the situation of Lü Gao and Lü Yi.”
Lü Dao stroked his beard,
Qi Huang was currently in Shuiyu Valley, preparing to ask whether the Lü family members were dead or alive.
“Qi Huang sister, didn’t you say you’ll uproot the Lü family’s stele on the first day of next month? So we’ll keep those people alive, partly as hostages, partly so they can see it happen.”
Mu Ruoyi explained the situation.
“Fine, you are thorough, but the Lü family probably won’t wait until the first day. They’ll send envoys to negotiate soon.”
Qi Huang guessed.
“Then… what should we do when they come?”
Mu Ruoyi asked for advice.
“Easy! Haven’t you been bitter about the destruction of Shuiyu Valley? Take this chance to demand compensation.”
Qi Huang proposed.
“Good idea!”
Mu Ruoyi’s pretty eyes lit up, then she smugly added, “After we get compensation, then what? Release them?”
“Of course not. No amount of compensation can make up for the lives of hundreds of thousands. Money can’t measure that; they must pay blood for blood.”
Qi Huang said decisively.
“I understand.”

Mu Ruoyi nodded firmly.
At the Cao household there were both joy and worry. Joy belonged to Cao Meng’s branch. Qi Huang and Cheng Hongling were alive, meaning Cao Yang still had a chance to take the swan’s meat.
“I really didn’t misjudge her. That girl actually escaped from the Immortal Alliance’s clutches!”
Cao Meng laughed happily.
“Escaped? She didn’t escape. The Alliance people fled in disarray. Lu Lin was like a toy in her hands. Who knows how strong that little demoness is!”
Cao Hui said with lingering fear.
“Strong is good! Strong is fit to be my grandson’s concubine!”
Admiration showed on Cao Meng’s face.
“Grandfather, you mean I can take her as a concubine?”
Cao Yang asked excitedly.
“Of course. Such a favored daughter of heaven should only be a Cao family daughter-in-law.”
Cao Meng declared forcefully.
“But Father, that little demoness is terrifyingly strong; even I feel scared. I’m afraid we’ll make a fool of ourselves trying to snatch her!”
Cao Hui hesitated and warned.
“How strong can she be? At most late Heavenly Tribulation Realm, otherwise she’d have ascended already. Our Cao family’s Immortal Stele is the mightiest in the cultivation world; it can certainly keep her in check!”
Cao Meng said confidently.
