Volume 13, Chapter 820 – I Am Your Ancestor (Part 4)

“I didn’t expect the Immortal of the Lingxi Sect to actually respond.”

Cheng Hongling’s face also showed a stunned expression.

Qi Huang snapped back to her senses, a trace of helplessness appearing on her face. The reason she had pretended to be an ancestor of the Lingxi Sect was twofold. First, to ride on the prestige of an immortal for free and save herself the trouble of explaining her identity. Second, she and Cheng Hongling couldn’t stay here forever, so they needed to find a trustworthy person or faction to act as an agent, to help manage this little “vegetable patch” for them. And clearly, the Lingxi Sect was a good choice.

Unfortunately, all of this had now turned into a fantasy. She hadn’t expected the immortal ancestor of the Lingxi Sect to truly respond.

“Even if she did respond, the question is where is this immortal ancestor of the Lingxi Sect? Can she make it through the spatial barrier in time? And second, does this Zhong Qin even have a way to open the spatial barrier? If she can’t, then what’s the point?”

Suspicion immediately surfaced on Cheng Hongling’s delicate face. After all, Zhong Qin’s cultivation level was only at the Divine Realm. Forget breaking space, she’d struggle to break through thin air.

Qi Huang’s expression turned thoughtful. She had never actually considered that in detail.

“Really? Ancestor Zhong Zhen really responded to you?”

“Heavens have finally opened their eyes! Our Lingxi Sect is saved! Wuwu…”

“Not only saved. Under the protection of an immortal ancestor, our Lingxi Sect will soar to new heights and regain our past glory! Anyone who dared harm us, or has harmed us, will pay the price!”

“Those petty scum from the Yanyang Sect, just wait for your doom!”

The upper echelons and disciples of the Lingxi Sect burst into tears of joy, hugging one another as they wept.

“Wow! The Lingxi Sect’s immortal really did respond? The Yanyang Sect is doomed now.”

“Haha! We’re saved! The Jinshan Empire is saved! With an immortal’s protection, what can those evil entities do to us?”

“Screw the Immortal Alliance! Useless cowards who sit and watch us die. From now on, we follow the Lingxi Sect!”

The surrounding cultivators buzzed with excited discussion.

As for those from the Yanyang Sect, their expressions were ashen, as if they had lost their parents.

The people of the Immortal Alliance were no better. Each of them wore expressions of deep embarrassment, wishing they could crawl into a hole.

“Why do you all look like your parents died? Just believe whatever she says?”

Mo Long turned back and coldly reminded the people of the Yanyang Sect.

“The Sect Master is absolutely right. She probably failed at her ancestral rite, so now she’s lying to scare everyone to keep the Lingxi Sect from being destroyed.”

Someone pretended to analyze cleverly.

“Zhong Qin, you claim to have contacted the immortal ancestor of the Lingxi Sect. Where’s the proof? Don’t tell me you’re lying to save your skin? I, Mo Long, am not some gullible toddler, don’t think I’m that easy to fool.”

Mo Long questioned Zhong Qin calmly.

“Don’t worry, I’ll break the spatial barrier right now, so you can witness the immortal of our Lingxi Sect for yourself.”

Zhong Qin panted as she spoke, then mustered her strength and pleaded in a certain direction, “Brother Yu, could I trouble you to help us open the spatial barrier of this world?”

Everyone turned to look in the direction of the voice and saw a group of about a dozen people standing there. They were from the Ding family, one of the top ten immortal clans in the cultivation world.

“Sect Master, for Zhong Qin to make such a bold request, there’s an eighty to ninety percent chance it’s true. Otherwise, once the Ding family breaks the barrier and no one appears, wouldn’t she be slapping herself in the face?”

“That’s right, didn’t you say yourself, ‘better safe than sorry’? We can’t just sit and wait, we have to find a way to stop them!”

“I suggest we strike directly. As long as we kill Zhong Qin, the Ding family won’t bother with us anymore.”

“Great idea! Ding Yao, the grandson of the Ding family patriarch, has taken a fancy to Zhong Qin’s immortal bloodline. That’s why the two factions are close. But if we kill her, the Ding family naturally won’t stick their nose in.”

The people of the Yanyang Sect were clearly shaken, urgently whispering suggestions to Mo Long.

“Relax. Just sit back and watch the show. Ding Yao’s been chasing after Zhong Qin for ages and still hasn’t succeeded. Now that  she’s in trouble, how could he possibly agree so easily?”

Mo Long crossed his arms and sneered coldly.

“So she’s planning to borrow someone else’s strength to break the spatial barrier, huh.”

In the shadows, Qi Huang and Cheng Hongling exchanged glances, a look of understanding flashing across their faces.

“Looks like your plan’s about to fall apart.”

Cheng Hongling teased.

“Don’t panic. Didn’t you see how calm Mo Long is? There’s definitely something shady going on.”

Qi Huang responded with confidence.

And indeed, what happened next surprised everyone. Ding Yao, the middle-aged man leading the Ding family, did not respond to Zhong Qin at all. He just stood there expressionlessly.

“Brother Ding? Brother Ding? Didn’t you hear me? Please use your family’s Immortal Stele to help us break the spatial barrier. The Lingxi Sect will forever remember your kindness.”

Unwilling to give up, Zhong Qin pleaded again.

“Sorry. I’m afraid… that won’t be possible.”

Ding Yao, the middle-aged man at the head of the Ding family, finally spoke, shaking his head. He was the grandson of the Ding family patriarch and one of Zhong Qin’s suitors.

A look of disbelief appeared on Zhong Qin’s mature and beautiful face. She had no idea what had happened.

“What’s going on with Ding Yao? Wasn’t he chasing Zhong Qin? How could he bear to reject her like that?”

The onlookers were equally puzzled, exchanging confused looks.

“Why are you going back on your word? Didn’t you promise me before?”

Zhong Qin came to her senses and questioned him angrily.

“Apologies. You know as well as I do that using the Immortal Stele to break the spatial barrier requires the fresh blood of a Heavenly Tribulation Realm expert. My grandfather is old and frail… I, as a junior, really can’t bear to see him risk his life again.”

Ding Yao replied indifferently.

“If that’s the case, then why did you agree in the first place? Isn’t this just breaking your word?”

Zhong Qin bit down on her lip as she asked, filial piety wasn’t a valid excuse for lying.

Ding Yao said nothing more, merely giving Zhong Qin a cold look. His meaning couldn’t have been clearer.

“Turns out Ding Yao’s a ‘filial son’ after all, huh!”

“The dog who used to wag his tail now bares its fangs. Zhong Qin must be shocked.”

“This is how men should be. Ding Yao is a model for us all.”

A few onlookers whispered mockingly.

“What exactly do you want before you’ll help?”

Zhong Qin asked helplessly.

“How about marrying me? My grandfather said, if you’re willing to marry me and bear children for the Ding family, he wouldn’t mind spilling a little blood for his granddaughter-in-law.”

Ding Yao finally made his terms clear.

“You’re using a crisis to your advantage?!”

Zhong Qin was so furious her chest trembled.

“It’s up to you to accept or not.”

Ding Yao replied lazily.

Zhong Qin gritted her teeth so hard they creaked, clearly caught in an agonizing decision.

“So he’s not being filial, he’s just taking advantage of her misfortune to raise the stakes.”

“Haha, poor Zhong Qin. Thought he was a loyal puppy, turns out he’s a starving wolf who eats without spitting out the bones.”

“Think about it. He’s the grandson of an immortal clan’s patriarch, how could he ever be someone’s lapdog?”

The spectators began mocking again. Most of them were clearly convinced the Immortal Alliance would protect them, so they had come purely to watch the drama unfold.

“Shameless bastard!”

Cheng Hongling cursed angrily from the shadows.

Zhong Qin looked around at the many familiar faces. Then, gritting her teeth, she said, “Fine. If your Ding family is willing to help break the spatial barrier, I’ll marry you.”

“You’re serious?”

Ding Yao’s face lit up with joy. “In that case, I’ll have my grandfather activate the Immortal Stele immediately.”

“Zhong Qin, didn’t you always pride yourself on being above others? And now you agree to this so easily? What’s the difference between you and a whore?”

Mo Long could no longer stay quiet, cursing out loud.

Just then, a voice suddenly rang out.

“Fellow cultivators, I am Elder Zou Ji of the Immortal Alliance. By decree of Alliance Master Wei, no one is to help the Lingxi Sect break the spatial barrier today.”

A man claiming to be an elder of the Immortal Alliance shouted loudly.

The crowd fell into dead silence, then broke out in furious protest.

“Why?! Why is the Immortal Alliance doing this? Are you helping the villains now?”

“Exactly! You didn’t help us to begin with, and now you’re actively stopping the Lingxi Sect from summoning their ancestor. Do you have a grudge against us or something?”

“Screw the Immortal Alliance, a bunch of animals, worse than beasts!”

People from the Jinshan Empire cursed furiously.

“The Immortal Alliance has received reliable information that the portals used by those outside evil entities lead directly to the Immortal Realm. If you all go around casually breaking spatial barriers, who knows how many more evil creatures might come through?”

Elder Zou replied lazily.

“What a load of nonsense. If there were that many evil creatures, they’d already be pouring through that portal.”

Cheng Hongling scoffed, curling her lip in disdain.

“Seems the Immortal Alliance of Kaiyuan Planet is no better than the one on Lishui Planet. Looks like this immortal needs to do a little housecleaning for the good of the people.”

Qi Huang sneered coldly. Just as she was about to act, her Divine Sense suddenly detected a figure rapidly approaching the Lingxi Sect. Looking closely, she realized it was that general-level Demonic Zombie.

“Now this… this is going to be a real show.”

Qi Huang sat back down immediately.
