Volume 13, Chapter 836 – Is This Right? This Can’t Be Right, Right?

BOOM…!

The courtyard gate was sent flying with a thunderous crash, kicked open by a zombie. The deafening noise shook everyone’s hearts.

“Ah!”

The girls shrieked and shivered in fright, scrambling behind Yuan Xin like frightened chicks seeking protection from their mother hen.

“What are you trying to do?!”

Yuan Xin’s face was taut with vigilance as she shouted angrily.

Those dozens of fiendish guards had no intention of responding. Like rabid dogs, they lunged at the girls.

“Courting death!”

Yuan Xin’s delicate brows snapped together. A blood-colored wooden sword floated before her eyes, flashing away in an instant.

Swish, swish, swish…

The wooden sword streaked across the courtyard like a shooting star, leaving faint red afterimages in its wake. Wherever it passed, every fiend had its carotid artery severed. Black, dead blood gushed out in an instant, reeking with a stomach-churning stench.

With a thought, Yuan Xin recalled the sword into her hand. Not a single drop of blood stained its surface.

But fiends were still fiends. They did not halt, nor did they fear death. They continued charging at the girls without hesitation.

Qi Huang still didn’t move. These fiends were mostly bronze or iron corpses, not even a threat to Yuan Xin.

Yuan Xin frowned again. She extended her slender index and middle fingers, pressing them lightly to the sword’s edge, and poured her vibrant green Wood-type True Qi into it at full force.

At the same time, the blood-colored wooden sword began to glow faintly red, casting a soft light that blanketed the entire courtyard. A strong suction force emerged from the blade.

Swish, swish, swish…

Under this immense suction, the wounds on the necks of the dozens of fiends began to gush blood again, this time straight toward the red wooden sword. The speed was so fast it produced a rushing water-like sound.

As the blood was absorbed, the sword turned a deeper red, the glow intensifying and its coverage expanding further.

The fiends, drained at a visible pace, shriveled up, and one by one, collapsed into dried husks on the ground.

“What kind of sword is that? It can absorb a fiend’s blood from a distance?”

Qi Huang was stunned, mentally remarking: ‘Who’s the zombie now?’

“So overconfident.”

Yuan Xin casually dismissed the matter and stowed her sword with ease, as though she had done nothing at all.

“Fairy Yuan is incredible!”

The surrounding girls looked at her with admiration in their eyes.

“It’s nothing!”

Yuan Xin offered a modest reply, though she couldn’t hide the pride on her face.

Just then, two figures suddenly appeared in the courtyard; it was Deputy General Guo and Wei Zhuo, drawn by the noise.

The girls immediately froze like cornered prey and quickly hid behind Yuan Xin again.

Qi Huang, however, remained calm and unmoving. If these two tried to pick a fight, she wouldn’t mind showing them a thing or two.

“What happened here?”

Deputy General Guo’s eyes swept over the dozens of shriveled corpses on the ground, his tone sharp.

“Your subordinates tried to drink our blood, so I killed them. That’s all there is to it.”

Yuan Xin kept her composure as she explained.

“Is that so?”

Deputy General Guo’s expression turned grim as he stepped forward slowly.

“You… with your strength, I don’t… I don’t believe you didn’t hear anything!”

Yuan Xin forced herself to reply, but her trembling voice betrayed her fear.

“Hmph.”

Deputy General Guo snorted coldly and said without backing down, “Even so, so what? They were my soldiers. If they broke the law, it’s the military’s place to judge them. You had no right to act on your own.”

“Then what do you want?”

Yuan Xin clenched her teeth, voice taut.

“Hand over your storage ring, and I’ll pretend this never happened.”

Deputy General Guo made his demand. He knew their food was stored in the ring, and he wanted to control all the mole-marked girls through it.

Yuan Xin hesitated. It wasn’t the treasures in the ring she was reluctant to part with, she simply didn’t want to place the girls’ fates in someone else’s hands.

“What? Can’t bear to part with it? Think carefully. Do you want the ring, or your life?”

The killing intent in Deputy General Guo’s eyes was blatant.

“Give it to him. A wise person doesn’t fight when the odds are bad.”

Qi Huang advised from the side. After all, she had plenty of supplies herself. No point in causing a scene over something like this. It would only delay their journey.

Yuan Xin took a deep breath, then reluctantly handed over the ring.

“From now on, your food is in my hands. Anyone who disobeys can go starve.”

Deputy General Guo threatened them, then left with a group of fiends.

“Sisters… I’m sorry. I was useless… I couldn’t protect your food.”

Yuan Xin apologized miserably, tears of humiliation trickling from the corners of her eyes.

“It’s okay, Fairy Yuan! We know you did your best.”

“Yeah. Without your food and talismans, we’d have starved or frozen to death already. How could we blame you?”

“Fairy Yuan, don’t blame yourself. We’re people that monster wants. They won’t let us die, right?”

“Exactly. At worst, we’ll just follow orders from now on.”

The girls exchanged glances, then took turns comforting her. They knew how to be grateful.

“Sigh…”

Yuan Xin let out a long sigh. No matter how one tried to justify it, having one’s fate in someone else’s hands always felt awful.

“Yuan Xin, do you know about Soul Resonance transmission?”

Qi Huang asked in a low voice.

“Soul Resonance? What’s that?”

Yuan Xin asked back, puzzled.

‘Looks like Kaiyuan Planet doesn’t have Soul Resonance…’

Qi Huang shook her head helplessly and began teaching her how to use it.

“Where did you learn this kind of transmission technique? I’ve never seen it before.”

Yuan Xin asked via Soul Resonance, full of curiosity.

“Family secret.”

Qi Huang brushed it off casually, then added, “Don’t be discouraged. I’ve got more food than you can imagine.”

“Really?”

Yuan Xin was doubtful.

Without waiting for debate, Qi Huang used her Divine Sense to pull Yuan Xin into one of her storage rings.

Yuan Xin felt a sudden jolt, and the next moment, she found herself inside the ring. What filled her vision were mountains of supplies. Her mouth hung open in shock; her mind went blank.

A moment later, Qi Huang pulled her out again and sent a message via Soul Resonance: “See? I wasn’t lying, was I?”

“Why did you stockpile so many supplies? Planning to sell them?”

Yuan Xin asked, still in awe.

Qi Huang paused, then smoothly went along with it. “Yeah, my father runs a business. These supplies were meant for him to sell. Who would’ve thought I’d get caught by those fiends on the way?”

“Don’t be sad. We’ll get home safely. I just know it.”

Yuan Xin gently took Qi Huang’s hand, speaking softly.

“Absolutely.”

Qi Huang grasped her hand firmly in return.

“Wait a minute, your cultivation is only in the Unity Realm. How were you able to move me, a living adult, into a storage ring?”

Yuan Xin suddenly frowned, realization dawning, and questioned her suspiciously.

Qi Huang froze, then let out a half-laugh. She’d actually forgotten a basic principle: Unity Realm cultivators could use Divine Sense, but only to lift lightweight objects. Moving a full-sized living human was absolutely impossible.

After a moment’s thought, Qi Huang chuckled and said playfully, “Doesn’t that just mean you have a great figure? Even a Unity Realm cultivator can lift you.”

“Is this right? This can’t be right, right?”

Yuan Xin glanced around in confusion, and the surrounding girls all looked equally bewildered.

Meanwhile, Deputy General Guo and Wei Zhuo had returned to the command tent.

“Deputy General Guo, you truly are a seasoned general. Seizing their storage rings both asserts your authority and gives you control over their lives. Those few brothers didn’t die in vain.”

Wei Zhuo praised him.

“The brothers are starving, and yet those girls were sitting on piles of food, eating and drinking all day. It was affecting morale.”

Deputy General Guo tossed the ring onto the table.

“But that doesn’t solve the root problem. If you don’t find a way to get through that teleportation gate soon, incidents like this will only happen more and more.”

Wei Zhuo warned.

“You don’t need to remind me. I know. But what can I do? You saw that damn bear. Can you beat it?”

Deputy General Guo lowered his voice after activating a Sound-Blocking Talisman.

“You’re giving me too much credit. Even after becoming a zombie, I’m only mid-stage Flying Corpse. No match for a late-stage Flying Bone creature.”

Wei Zhuo laughed bitterly.

“Exactly! So what solutions do you expect me to come up with?”

Guo spread his hands helplessly.

“Well, we can’t just sit here and wait to die. Why don’t we do what we did before and use one of the girls to open the path again?”

Wei Zhuo suggested.

“No. General Meng warned us: don’t flaunt our wealth. If that bear gets any ideas, it’ll be like digging our own graves.”

Guo rejected him instantly.

“Sigh. That damn bear is the biggest obstacle. Without it, I could easily deal with the rest of the guards myself.”

Wei Zhuo shook his head in frustration.

‘All this dragging on and on, aren’t you just hoping that damn bear dies? Fine, I’ll grant your wish.’

Qi Huang had finally run out of patience. A few strands of her hair suddenly shot out like lightning.
