Volume 13, Chapter 856 – I Don’t Know How to Address the Fairy
Cheng Hongling used the teleportation gate to quickly traverse the starry sky. Every time she came upon a life-bearing planet, she would stop to carefully observe. With her current cultivation already at the level of a Master-grade Immortal, scanning an entire planet for information posed no difficulty.
As days passed, the area she covered grew larger and larger. Along the way, she encountered a few life-bearing planets… Those with human habitation were even rarer. Though she knew the odds were slim, she had no intention of giving up.
Cheng Hongling continued her search with patience. She felt fortunate her lover had managed to acquire something like a teleportation gate. Without it, a long-distance journey of this scale would have been impossible.
Not long after, a life-bearing planet entered Cheng Hongling’s field of view. She once again flew close to observe.
This planet looked slightly smaller than Lishui Planet. Like Lishui, it too was home to both cultivators and fiendish specters. However, cultivators now held absolute dominance. As a result, the planet’s yin energy had thinned considerably. The few remaining specters could only struggle to survive, hiding in dark corners.
Cheng Hongling felt mildly disappointed. What she was searching for had to do with wandering souls and ghosts. The fewer the specters, the slimmer her chances. Still, as the saying goes, even a mosquito’s leg is still meat… She didn’t skip over the planet. As always, she extended her Divine Sense to examine the specters.
Soon, Cheng Hongling’s brows lifted slightly, and a glint of surprise appeared on her face. In a remote and hidden corner, she had discovered a strange specter.
It was the vengeful soul of a young man. But it wasn’t formed from his Life Soul. Instead, it was condensed from one of the Seven Corporeal Souls—specifically, the Heavenly Surge Soul. This would shock anyone who saw it, as it was simply too abnormal.
It was common knowledge that a person’s Life Soul consisted of three ethereal souls and seven corporeal souls. Among them, the seven souls were particularly wondrous. Not only a part of the Life Soul but also the foundation of the body’s seven vital acupoints. This meant that once the body died, the seven souls would instantly dissipate. That’s why wandering ghosts were typically formed only from the ethereal components of the Life Soul.
But now, an exception had appeared: a vengeful spirit formed solely from the Heavenly Surge Soul was plainly visible within Cheng Hongling’s sight.
‘The body is dead, so how can a soul fragment survive?’
This was the ultimate answer Cheng Hongling sought.
She entered the planet, but didn’t approach the vengeful soul right away. Instead, she concealed herself from a distance and began observing.
Qi Huang had returned to Lishui Planet, only to find her wife missing. She immediately used mental transmission to contact Cheng Hongling. Unlike the Thousand-Mile Communication Tube, communication between the primary self and a doppelgänger wasn’t limited by distance, so she had no concern about losing contact.
“Don’t worry, I was just too bored on Lishui Planet, so I came out to wander a bit.”
Cheng Hongling reassured him.

Despite repeated persuasion, Qi Huang eventually gave up, realizing her lover now possessed the strength of a Master-grade Immortal. In the cultivation world, she could practically do as she pleased.
Cheng Hongling lay in ambush for several days. She gained a rough understanding of the planet’s overall state. It was named Qiling Planet. Its cultivation system was the same as Lishui Planet’s, since both were under the Five Elements Heavenly Dao. Its situation also resembled Lishui’s current state: in the past thousand years, Qiling Planet’s cultivation world had birthed several monstrous geniuses, pressing the ghost race into submission. At present, their influence on ordinary people was almost nonexistent.
As the days passed, the vengeful soul formed by the Heavenly Surge Soul never left its lair. It didn’t interact with any other specters, either. Cheng Hongling gradually lost patience. But just as she was about to give up, a sudden change occurred. An immense Divine Sense scanned the vengeful soul.
The soul sensed something was wrong and immediately bolted from its lair, attempting to flee far away. Unfortunately, it was a step too late.
A silhouette streaked across the sky like a meteor, instantly intercepting the fleeing soul and cutting off its escape route.
“Huang Hua, you’ve been hiding well, tucked away in this godforsaken place. No wonder no one’s found you all these years.”
The pursuer sneered. His youthful face still retained traces of immaturity, appearing only sixteen or seventeen years old. A green, leaf-shaped mark at the center of his brow revealed that he was merely a doppelgänger.
‘He can fly through the air, which means he’s at least at the Incarnation Realm. For a doppelgänger to possess Incarnation Realm strength at that age… his original self must be a monster with immortal blood in his veins!’
Cheng Hongling instantly deduced.
“Who are you? What do you want?”
The youth named Huang Hua asked solemnly.
“I am Bao Hu, the top immortal seed of the Bao Clan’s current generation. As for why I’m here… you already know.”
The doppelgänger said arrogantly.
“The Bao Clan? The number-one immortal family on Qiling Planet? No wonder you’ve reached the Incarnation Realm at such a young age, and that’s just for a doppelgänger.”
Huang Hua’s expression wavered with unease.

“Cut the crap. Tell me, where is your physical body? If you don’t, today will be the day you perish.”
Bao Hu’s eyes turned icy.
“Sorry, I truly don’t know. When I died, I don’t even know which of my soul fragments hid the body.”
Huang Hua explained as sincerely as he could.
“You think I’ll believe that?”
Bao Hu’s eyes radiated killing intent.
“What would I gain from lying? That ‘mutation power’ is useless to me. Why would I risk everything for it?”
Huang Hua argued with all his might.
“Mutation power? What’s that?”
Cheng Hongling murmured to herself.
“Heh, who says it’s useless? You know better than anyone what it can do. Every cultivator’s doppelgänger dreams of acquiring it. With that power, it’s like owning a mountain of gold!”
Bao Hu clearly didn’t buy it.
“If you still don’t believe me, I’ve got nothing more to say.”
Huang Hua shrugged helplessly.
“Then surrender. I don’t believe I can’t pry the truth from your mouth.”
Bao Hu lost his patience. His Incarnation Realm Divine Sense turned into a massive hand, which reached to seize Huang Hua’s soul.

Huang Hua instinctively tried to dodge. But his movements lagged far behind his thoughts. All he could do was watch helplessly as the giant hand closed in.
‘I’m finished!’
Despair gripped Huang Hua.
But at that moment, a powerful Divine Sense barrier suddenly materialized out of thin air, enveloping Huang Hua.
BANG!
Bao Hu’s Divine Sense hand shattered against the barrier like an egg hitting stone. The backlash made him grunt in pain and stagger toward the ground below.
“Who’s there? Might you show yourself?”
Bao Hu barely managed to stand. Then he called out, feigning calm.
Just as the words left his lips, a red, slender figure appeared beside Huang Hua. A delicate fragrance filled the air, so sweet and pure that even the surrounding butterflies began to flutter and dance.
Bao Hu focused his gaze and instantly became dazed. The red figure was a stunning beauty, around twenty-six or twenty-seven years old, so breathtaking that even his cultivation heart wavered.
That woman was, of course, Cheng Hongling.
“I don’t know how to address this fairy. May I ask why you interfered?”
Bao Hu composed himself and inquired gently. First, he wasn’t sure of her strength. Second, as a man, it was difficult to act aggressive toward a woman of such allure.
“What is this ‘mutation power’?”
Cheng Hongling asked directly.

“You don’t even know what mutation power is?”
Bao Hu blinked in disbelief.
Inside the barrier, Huang Hua also looked surprised, with a trace of confusion in his eyes.
“Stop wasting time. Speak now if you don’t want to die.”
Cheng Hongling threatened coldly.
“It’s nothing.”
Bao Hu’s eyes darted as he brushed it off, thinking a pretty woman must be soft-hearted.
“Courting death!”
Cheng Hongling’s fury erupted. A terrifying sliver of her Divine Sense surged forth and bore down on the youth. She was kind, yes, but not indecisive.
THUD!
Bao Hu’s legs went limp like noodles. He fell hard to his knees, smashing a deep crater into the earth. Dirt and rocks flew everywhere, tree branches splintered and snapped.
SPURT!
Blood sprayed from Bao Hu’s mouth. He knelt trembling, his entire body shivering.
“I’ll ask one more time—what exactly is mutation power?”
Cheng Hongling’s killing intent surged as she closed in.
