Volume 14, Chapter 906 – Run! The Ghost-Haired Woman Is Here!

“We’ve uncovered it. The name he’s currently using is fake. His real name is Fei Yuan, and the ancestor he’s connected to was a Heavenly Soldier from the Celestial Court named Fei Xun.”

An Xuan rattled off the words casually.

Fang Yuan, though he heard what was clearly a false name, still collapsed onto the ground in a show of defeat, saying, “I’ll clarify everything according to your instructions… just please, spare my ancestor.”

The reason Fang Yuan played along was because Qi Huang had already told him that An Xuan was one of their own. He had to cooperate, or else the people from the Immortal Alliance might not believe them.

Yan Yi wasn’t easy to fool, but seeing Fang Yuan’s pitiful state, even he seemed to be partly convinced.

“Grand Elder, this zombie might not be telling the truth. She probably made up a name just to save her own skin. As for this Fang Yuan, he’s clearly happy to see us being misled. He’s putting on a show to trick everyone.”

Surprisingly, Yan Ying managed to say something clever for once.

“Eh? What I said is absolutely true.”

An Xuan offered a half-hearted rebuttal.

“But the problem is, we have no way to tell whether they’re lying or not. We can’t bother the Grand Elder for everything, can we?”

A steward nearby looked around with a troubled expression.

“It’s not easy for the Grand Elder to contact the Celestial Realm either. Getting to the bottom of this will take time.”

Yan Yi shook his head and, after a brief pause, turned to Fang Yuan. “Can you prove that your ancestor is Fei Xun? If not, I won’t feel comfortable letting you speak out. You’ll just have to keep letting the zombie drain your blood.”

‘This old bastard really is hard to deal with. If we hadn’t prepared a contingency plan, we wouldn’t have tricked him at all.’

Inside the storage ring, Qi Huang’s face twisted with disdain.

“You’re always too cautious. Since we already know who Fang Yuan’s ancestor is, if it were me, I would’ve chopped Yan Yi down with a single sword strike, then taken control of the Immortal Alliance members. That way, no one could stop Fang Yuan from clearing things up.”

Cheng Hongling chimed in nearby.

“My wife is absolutely right! If this old dog still refuses to believe later, I’ll just kill him myself.”

Qi Huang muttered with resolve.

Outside, Fang Yuan moved his thoughts, then summoned a spirit tablet from his storage ring. “This is my ancestor’s memorial tablet. Do you believe me now?”

Yan Yi took it and found that the name Fei Xun was indeed engraved on it.

“There’s no way he could’ve made this on the spot in front of everyone—but he might’ve had help from someone else inside the ring, or even from a doppelgänger!”

“I scanned it. There are no living people in his storage ring.”

“This tablet is old and decayed, filled with the aura of time. It can’t be faked at the last minute. It’s likely genuine.”

Several high-ranking members gave their evaluations.

Yan Yi gave a satisfied smile and said, “In that case, take him out to make his clarification. No need to keep all our guests waiting.”

“Yes, Grand Elder!”

A regular elder bowed respectfully, then ordered the guards to escort Fang Yuan out.

Qi Huang and Cheng Hongling, hiding inside Steward Ping’s storage ring, were naturally taken out along with him.

“What about her?”

Yan Ying gestured at An Xuan nearby.

“Since the task is complete, just kill her.”

A senior member suggested coldly.

Upon hearing this, An Xuan feigned panic. “You can’t go back on your word! You promised you’d let me go once I completed the task!”

“She’s just a lowly evil spirit. What right does she have to negotiate with us?”

Yan Ying sneered with disdain.

“Keep her for now. There aren’t many zombies left in the Immortal Realm, she might come in handy later.”

Yan Yi thought for a moment before making the decision.

“Yes, sir!”

The disciples on either side acknowledged the order.

An Xuan didn’t show any hint of relief upon hearing this, because her mission had already been completed. Even if they decided to attack her, she could escape at any time. No one here could stop her anyway.

The members of the Immortal Alliance quickly brought Fang Yuan to the gates of the imperial palace. The crowd gathered to watch instantly fell silent.

“He’s here! He’s really here! Isn’t that the Grand Elder of the Immortal Alliance, Yan Yi? They really are in the imperial capital of the Fengming Immortal Kingdom.”

“As expected. Fang Yuan was spreading calamity rumors, hinting at the Celestials. Of course the Immortal Alliance couldn’t let it slide.”

“I just want to know—was that so-called calamity real?”

“Fake. I heard someone went to another Tianjizi to verify it—there’s no great tribulation.”

“Then why spread rumors?”

“Maybe he’s just a fraud. He got lucky before and guessed right.”

Among the sea of gossiping onlookers, most believed Fang Yuan had been impersonating a Tianjizi, and was only now being exposed by the Immortal Alliance. However, there were still some who believed he was the real deal.

“If Fang Yuan is a Tianjizi, why would he lie?”

“I think it’s for freedom.”

“Freedom? What do you mean?”

“Think about it. After Fang Yuan became a Tianjizi, he’s been kept under house arrest in the imperial palace by the Empress of Fengming. Officially he was called a National Advisor, but really, he was a prisoner. He knew that if he wanted freedom, he had to give up the ‘Tianjizi’ title. And the most effective way to do that… was to spread a damaging rumor.”

“Then why not spread any old rumor? Why one about the Celestials? That’s a line no one dares to cross!”

“You’re missing the point. If he lied randomly, how would he get revenge on the Empress who imprisoned him for decades?”

“True. Only if the Immortal Alliance stepped in could the Empress be restrained. And that’s exactly what happened, the Empress already abdicated because of this.”

Some who believed in Fang Yuan even started justifying his actions with their own theories.

Qi Huang scanned the surroundings with her Divine Sense and found an old acquaintance, the Ziji Immortal Emperor, present in the crowd. Besides him, two other Immortal Emperors from other nations had also arrived.

“The Ziji Immortal Emperor is here too. We can’t let him slip away again. We must get that heart fragment from him this time.”

Cheng Hongling immediately issued an order to her beloved.

“Don’t worry, dear wife. Leave it to me. I only let him hold onto it temporarily last time.”

Qi Huang cracked her knuckles eagerly.

“All right. Go clarify things now. And remember what you said earlier. If you don’t keep your word, don’t blame us for revealing your ancestor’s identity to the Celestial Realm.”

Yan Yi instructed Fang Yuan coldly.

“Got it.”

A sly glint flashed in Fang Yuan’s eyes as he strode confidently to the center of the scene.

“Fellow immortals, I am Fang Yuan, the Tianjizi of the Fengming Immortal Kingdom. I know it’s been a burden on all of you to come from so far to Fengqi City, but I had no other choice. A few months ago, I had someone post an announcement stating that a great calamity would befall the Immortal Realm on the eighteenth of June, nineteen years from now. All cultivators and immortals would be in grave danger…”

Fang Yuan began recounting the previous events.

Yan Yi watched him closely, a wary expression on his face. For some reason, an ominous feeling tugged at his heart. He glanced around and whispered, “Stay alert. If he dares to utter nonsense, kill him immediately.”

“Yes, sir!”

The surrounding disciples immediately drew their weapons and stood ready.

“And just a few days ago, the Empress had another proclamation issued, saying that my ‘prophecy’ was mistaken, and that no such calamity would occur nineteen years from now. This may have caused great confusion among you. I’m holding this clarification assembly today to give you a definitive answer: Is the calamity real or not?”

Fang Yuan paused, sweeping his gaze across the crowd. Every single spectator stared wide-eyed, eagerly waiting for what he would say next. He smiled with satisfaction and declared, “Let me now tell you with full certainty. The great calamity nineteen years from now is real. All cultivators and immortals will face total annihilation.”

“Oh my god! Who said he would back down under pressure from the Immortal Alliance?!”

No one among the millions of spectators expected this outcome. The square erupted into shocked cries.

“Courting death!”

Yan Yi didn’t expect the other party to make such a bold move, openly defying them. It took him a moment to react, but when he did, his face turned savage as he summoned his treasured sword and slashed at Fang Yuan.

SHING!

The sword moved so fast, it might as well have teleported. Even ordinary immortals couldn’t track its path with Divine Sense. And yet, just as it neared Fang Yuan, it was caught by a single, delicate-looking strand of hair.

Qi Huang and Cheng Hongling revealed themselves instantly, causing a stir among the crowd.

“Ghost-Haired Woman?! It’s you?! You just won’t stop haunting us!”

Yan Yi cursed furiously upon seeing her.

“Ghost-Haired Woman? What an impolite name.”

Qi Huang frowned slightly in displeasure.

“Who are those two women? Just a strand of hair, and they blocked the Grand Elder of the Immortal Alliance. That guy’s a top-tier mid-stage Heavenly Immortal!”

“I’ve heard of the Ghost-Haired Woman. Supposedly, she’s the National Preceptor of Minghou Planet. A newly risen peerless fiend of the ghost clans in the Immortal Realm.”

“Yeah! She not only stole all of the Ziji Immortal Emperor’s treasures, but even auctioned them in front of the Immortal Alliance’s leader and escaped unscathed. She clearly doesn’t see us immortals as a threat at all.”

“Then why is she helping Fang Yuan?”

“Isn’t it obvious? She wants him to spread rumors that slander the Heavenly Dao and the Celestial Court.”

“In that case, it makes sense why Fang Yuan lied. He’s probably already become her puppet.”

Among the millions watching, some retreated while whispering nervously, trying to keep calm.

“Run! Run! The Ghost-Haired Woman is here! The Ghost-Haired Woman is here!”

The more cowardly ones screamed as they fled in terror.

Qi Huang was quite pleased with the chaos she had caused. She looked at Fang Yuan and said, “Continue. With me here today, no one will silence you.”
