Chapter 100: Reunion

Lin Lei contacted his Sky Shuttle and began to fly back to the villa complex he used to live in. He had to find the parents for the child in his arms. Oh no, it was a little girl.

Lin Lei thought it over and decided that the villa complex was the most likely place. He could only return there to look for them, house by house, feeling quite depressed.

Who would have thought that executing a mission for the Star Alliance would lead to this kind of thing, acting like a nanny. It made Lin Lei feel embarrassed!

So, in the sky district near Rumba City on the Apocalypse Three Star, a scene appeared: a tall man in a black uniform with a serious expression was walking around carrying a cute little giggling girl, asking people everywhere.

Lin Lei asked several houses in a row, but everyone said they didn’t know anything about it. With no other choice, he sat on the grass by the lake holding the little girl, lost in thought. Should he take the little one back to the Star Alliance?

Just as he had a sudden whim, the little girl climbed onto Lin Lei. She mumbled something in her mouth. Lin Lei listened carefully and realized she was calling for her dad.

Alright, this little kid was randomly mistaking people. Lin Lei’s head immediately started to throb. In situations like this, it usually meant the little one had some needs, like being hungry or needing to pee.

Lin Lei felt he was truly out of his mind for taking on this trouble. If he had been a bit harder-hearted back then, he would have returned to the Star Alliance long ago and completed his mission successfully.

He stayed on the grass for over half an hour before finally standing up. He decided to hand the little girl over to the local government organization. Although the little one was indeed lovely, thirty minutes of warmth was enough.

It was at this moment that four people walked over from the other end of the grass. There were three men and one woman. One of the men was wearing a uniform, likely a local manager.

Another man looked very familiar to Lin Lei. Thanks to his exceptional memory, he slapped his head and remembered him. Wasn’t this the guy named Raymond who had claimed to be Fuweili’s cousin when they met on the Galaxy Network? As for the third man, his face was very unfamiliar, but his gaze at Lin Lei was strange, mixed with awe and jealousy.

As for the last woman… it was actually Fuweili. She was tears streaming down her face, looking at Lin Lei standing on the grass with disbelief.

Lin Lei was stunned too. He never imagined he would meet Fuweili again under such circumstances. Even though he was usually calm, he had lost his composure for a moment, standing there in a daze.

She had lost weight and looked thinner, with exhaustion on her face, which made Lin Lei’s heart ache.

But the little girl in his arms reached out towards Fuweili, clearly calling out “Mom.”

Raymond also looked at the man standing on the grass with an expression of disbelief. He had seen her holographic image before and was shocked by it at the time, but seeing the real person now, Raymond realized that Fuweili’s description of her cousin in the past might have been slightly modest.

Under the golden sunlight, this man looked like a War God. Holding his little girl did not soften his steel-like traits but revealed a tenderness mixed with the iron-blooded and domineering aura of a War God.

A person like this actually existed. Just one glance made Raymond feel overwhelmed with admiration. Now, he fully understood why Fuweili had cried day and night upon returning home.

Lin Lei also recovered his composure. Holding the little girl with one hand, he opened his arms towards Fuweili. He had finally figured out the source of his inexplicable closeness to the little girl. This was his daughter!

His daughter! Lin Lei was extremely relieved about his choice back then. He had almost lost her, and in a way that could not be forgiven. Fortunately, none of it had happened.

Fuweili walked towards Lin Lei, her speed gradually increasing until she was actually running and threw herself into his arms. At this moment, tears of happiness flowed from her eyes. Her Lei had returned.

The man standing next to Raymond took a deep breath. Looking at the happy family of three hugging each other on the grass nearby, he said in a suppressed tone, “Raymond, does this mean I don’t have a chance anymore?”

Raymond shrugged helplessly and said, “David, I don’t know what you’re going crazy about, but I think you never had a chance.”

“I’ll leave first. I can’t stay here anymore. I’m not needed.” David wiped his face and left without a word, turning around and walking away.

Raymond hurried to catch up. He knew his friend’s feelings, but since the main person involved was here, David’s tragedy was inevitable. As a close friend, he could only offer comfort.

On the grass by the lake, Fuweili asked in a dreamy voice, “Lei, why are you here in the Apocalypse?”

“I came to see you and check on our daughter. What’s the little one’s name?” At a time like this, Lin Lei certainly wouldn’t spoil the mood by saying he was there for a mission. That would be too insensitive.

“Her name is Lin Xin. I hope she can live a peaceful and safe life all year round.” These words also expressed Lin Lei’s wishes. Since she was his daughter, his expectations for her were the same as Fuweili’s.

After the initial excitement passed, Fuweili’s doubts surfaced. She asked curiously, “Lei, how did Xin’er end up with you? Back then, when I heard the noise in the room from the hall and went to check, the person was already gone.”

This question made Lin Lei very embarrassed. He said awkwardly, “Actually, I came here to execute a mission and picked her up on the way. It’s a good thing my daughter is fine. It’s really a stroke of luck!”

There must be more to it. Fuweili knew Lin Lei so well. When he lied, he never looked her in the eyes; he either looked into the distance or at the sky. But since she was fine now, she didn’t press further.

“Executing a mission?” Another doubt arose.

“Yes, I am now a warrior of the Star Alliance Guard.” Lin Lei didn’t want to discuss this topic deeply. He looked into Fuweili’s eyes and said, “Let’s go to your place and talk properly.”

Just as Fuweili was about to agree, shrill alarm sounds rang out from the villa complex. Many people were running in panic and screaming, and the scene instantly became extremely chaotic.

Lin Lei saw that among the crowd, many grotesque figures were chasing people. These were the half-formed Dark Remnants that Lin Lei had killed the previous night. However, their number was now terrifying.

This was simply a biological crisis. The Dark Remnants behind were attacking the crowd with any tools they could get their hands on, and they wouldn’t stop until they were killed.

They were a pile of killing machines!

Damn it, someone must be mass-producing Dark Remnants again, just to obtain the complete products Lin Lei had seen. However, this time, the situation had already gotten out of control.

Lin Lei immediately grabbed Fuweili and Lin Xin, one in each arm, and flew towards the Sky Shuttle parked nearby.

He didn’t understand the principle behind the creation of Dark Remnants, nor did he know if there was any infectious mechanism. He could only leave this place as quickly as possible.

“Lei, where are we going! What’s happening?” Fuweili shouted to Lin Lei in urgency.

“This is the reason I came here! The problem is huge now. I need to report to the Star Alliance immediately.” Lin Lei jumped into the Sky Shuttle and activated the ascension system immediately.

Subsequently, Lin Lei connected to the Star Alliance’s Subspace communication channel. The hologram of Elder Yun immediately appeared.

Lin Lei reported everything that had happened on the Apocalypse Three Star and the characteristics of the Dark Remnants he had seen.

After hearing this, Elder Yun thought for a moment and said, “This is a premeditated riot. I have already received news. Rumba City has implemented Level A martial law. There are already millions of Dark Remnants in the entire city. The infection mechanism has not yet been confirmed. We only know that warriors with a Protective Force Field on their bodies are not affected by the infection. You must go to Rumba City immediately to stabilize the situation there. Our reinforcements will arrive in half an hour.”

“Orders received!” This was a major event. After receiving the order, Lin Lei immediately piloted the Sky Shuttle out of the Apocalypse Three Star. He stopped the Sky Shuttle in the synchronous orbit of the Apocalypse Three Star.

“Wait for me here. The situation is extremely severe, and I must go to Rumba City to execute the mission. Fuweili, the ground is no longer safe. You should stay here first. The life support system in the Sky Shuttle is very advanced, and there is enough food and water. You can also check on my situation anytime through the communicator.”

Fuweili hugged Lin Lei tightly, greedily smelling his scent for fully half a minute before letting go. “Remember to come back safely. Your wife and daughter are here!”

Lin Lei nodded and then activated the teleportation system of the Sky Shuttle.
