Chapter 26: Prelude to the Epic

“Lei, I can’t wear this helmet anymore; it smells like meat broth,” Fuweili complained to Lin Lei as soon as she put on the protective helmet.

This… Lin Lei was speechless; he had washed it in the water more than a dozen times to ensure there really was no smell before returning it to her. Perhaps it was boiled for too long, so the helmet absorbed the flavor.

“Just bear with it for now. We’ll talk about it when we find a safe place. It’s getting light soon; you don’t know how hot it gets here during the day!” Lin Lei comforted her repeatedly.

“Okay.” Fuweili’s pitiful response came in his mind.

Lin Lei was not very familiar with the Hebrew Continent. The ecology here was completely different from the Floating Island; there were simply no trees huge enough for him to dig a tree hole.

The two searched for a long time and finally found a huge natural cave on a cliff of a steep slope.

However, this cave had an owner. As soon as they entered, they discovered they had barged into a beast’s den.

Inside, there were three half-grown cubs looking at them curiously, and an adult beast baring its teeth at them with a fierce look.

This beast looked very similar to the Komodo Beast on the Floating Island, but its size was much larger, a full size bigger than the largest Komodo Beast. The adult one was over five meters long and looked quite intimidating.

Unlike the Komodo Beast on the Floating Island, its tail had no barbs.

Anyway, Fuweili was so scared that her face turned pale, and she consciously hid behind Lin Lei. She was not sure if her energy gun would be useful against this big guy, and there were four beasts here.

Even though the three were cubs, they were nearly three meters long, not something ordinary people could deal with.

However, Lin Lei was here, so the place was requisitioned. Lin Lei’s presence was also the reason why the adult beast did not dare to pounce. It had never seen this strange creature before; although the body was small, the deterrent power was too great.

If it were something familiar that dared to barge into its den, it would immediately be a life-and-death situation.

“Fuweili, get your energy gun ready and hide in the corner. Protect yourself,” Lin Lei whispered.

“Mm, you be careful!”

As for Wild Beast Meng, it was peeking into the cave entrance and had no intention of joining the fight. It was good enough that it didn’t run away. It knew the big guy in the cave; with sharp claws, sharp teeth, and an extremely flexible body, someone like it would be killed instantly if it went up.

The System message came through, but it was only for the adult beast.

Giant Komodo Beast (Prehistoric Blue Rain Star Creature)

Body length including tail: 5.8 meters.

Weight: 365 kg.

Physical Energy Level: 5.3 Standard Energy Level.

Maximum Burst Energy Level: 1.4 Standard Energy Level.

Characteristic: Extremely fast attack speed.

Lin Lei had experienced the attack speed of the Komodo Beast before; it exceeded his dynamic vision during Level 1 Reinforcement. He was able to win that time entirely by experience and luck.

But now, his own motor nerves had been strengthened by 100%, far surpassing the Komodo Beast, so now he was calm and completely fearless.

Lin Lei walked step by step toward the adult beast, his momentum overwhelming. The three cubs had long since shrank into the corner, having no courage to attack at all.

The adult Giant Komodo Beast roared and pounced directly at Lin Lei. Its speed was indeed very fast; in an instant, it was in front of Lin Lei, swiping three times with its claws.

Lin Lei retreated a step just in the nick of time; he could even feel the strong wind brought by his opponent’s sharp claws brushing past his nose.

All offensives have their ups and downs. The Giant Komodo Beast’s claws did not hit the opponent, and its offensive paused for an instant.

In that instant, Lin Lei stepped forward and slapped the Giant Komodo Beast on the cheek, literally slapping it away.

Blood, broken teeth, and shredded meat scattered all over the ground, showing how heavy this slap was.

The adult beast fell to the ground and couldn’t get up for a while. One side of its cheek was a bloody blur, and its eyeball had burst. It looked like its facial bones were definitely shattered, and its brain had suffered violent concussion.

It struggled for a long time before slowly crawling up and standing unsteadily, protecting itself in front of the three cubs. A sound, either a whimper or a low growl, rolled in its throat, but it dared not step forward again.

Lin Lei was just about to step forward to finish the trouble when Fuweili’s voice came into his mind: “Lei, let it go, it’s just a mother!”

Completely finishing the opponent was just Lin Lei’s combat habit. Since Fuweili pleaded for it, he stopped. With such injuries, this beast would not live past twelve hours.

In fact, that it could persist in standing up was already beyond Lin Lei’s expectations.

Lin Lei still walked forward and, at a speed they could not dodge, kicked one at a time, kicking all of them out of the cave. He used skillful force and did not hurt them. Fuweili also saw this, so she didn’t say anything.

“Now, this cave belongs to us. Hehe, Fuweili, it’s a very nice place, look, there’s even a spring here.” The discovery of this spring really made Lin Lei happy. During his time on the Floating Island, he hadn’t encountered such a good thing.

Fuweili’s mood was not high. This matter of hurting others and seizing their home had just happened before her eyes. Although she knew Lin Lei was not wrong, she still found it a bit hard to accept; it was really… too barbaric.

“Lei, what do you think will happen to the mother and her children? We made them homeless.” Fuweili was moved by the mother beast’s act of protecting her cubs earlier, and now her heart was entirely focused on them.

Lin Lei turned around and looked at Fuweili with surprise, who was showing a sentimental look. He really didn’t know what was in this woman’s head; did she have the leisure to care about others at a time like this?

“If I’m not mistaken, are you sympathizing with them?” Lin Lei asked back with a bit of banter.

“Yes, I am sympathizing with them.” This cold-blooded guy, doesn’t he have a bit of sympathy?

“Haha.” Lin Lei laughed, slapping his leg. He didn’t know why, but whenever he saw Fuweili pouting and blushing with a serious look, he wanted to laugh and couldn’t help but tease her a few more words.

“By comparison, carnivorous beasts have far less need for a den than for food. If you were willing to sacrifice your body, it might provide a little comfort to the bellies of those four guys just now!”

Fuweili was really angry. She took off her protective helmet and threw it at Lin Lei, accompanied by her angry shout: “You barbarian, I can’t reason with you!”

Lin Lei caught the helmet with one hand, knowing he had gone a bit too far. He hurriedly tried to make amends: “Alright, don’t we still have a beast leg? It weighs several hundred catties. You take it to them as compensation for the house, okay?”

He didn’t care about those beasts, but he was unwilling to have a cold war with the only person he could communicate with. Lin Lei knew which was more important.

“You beat that mother so badly, is one beast leg enough!?” Fuweili was confused by anger and started to bicker with Lin Lei; this was purely a petty woman’s temper.

Damn it, this woman is pushing her luck. Does she expect me to raise it? “Just this beast leg, nothing else. You can give it or not, I’m going to clean this up, the smell is too strong here.”

Giving in once is enough, but one must not be too indulgent. After saying that, Lin Lei started to tidy up the cave.

Fuweili snorted, dragged the beast leg by the stone wall, and walked out. Her Energy Level was also 3.0, and she was wearing a Combat Suit, so dragging a few hundred catties was not a problem.

“Wait!”

“What, you regret it?” If that were the case, Fuweili decided to never speak to this person again.

“Put on your helmet, if you don’t want to really become their food.” The System definitely had a bug and misjudged this woman’s wisdom level. She was missing a screw when doing things; if she went out like this, she would basically meet God. An injured mother beast is very dangerous.

“Oh.” Fuweili took the helmet with a red face and put it on her head obediently.

Actually, she knew she was being willful, but the feeling of being spoiled was really good, hehe.

Lin Lei was busy in the cave for a long time before he saw Fuweili walk in, looking refreshed, with the beast leg gone from her hand.

“Spendthrift woman.” Lin Lei muttered.

Fuweili didn’t understand, but she guessed it wasn’t a good word. However, she was in a good mood now, so she didn’t care.

“Fuweili, will people from Apocalypse Star come to pick you up and leave?” This was a big question, the key to whether he could leave Blue Rain Star, so Lin Lei had to ask clearly.

Fuweili’s face turned unpleasant. She sighed: “I don’t know. This expedition was purely the result of a few friends and I getting a hot head. Because we heard there were Epic Beasts here, we wanted to come and see. It was private in nature, and even the expedition spaceship wasn’t formal. In outer space, we were out of luck and encountered a rare gravitational vortex, and then the spaceship was hit by a massive meteorite captured by the gravitational vortex. We escaped in a hurry and didn’t even have time to send a distress signal.”

No way, sure enough, she does things unreliably. Lin Lei’s hope, which had just ignited, was extinguished. He ignored the matter of the Epic Beast.

Seeing Lin Lei’s disappointment, Fuweili comforted him instead: “Don’t worry, as long as my family finds they can’t contact me, they will definitely come looking, but I guess it will take a few months. The Galaxy is too big. When the time comes, I will definitely take you away from here!”

Finally finding some psychological advantage over Lin Lei, Fuweili was still a bit happy in her heart.

“I hope so, but what about your friends? I only saw one meteorite fall down.”

“I don’t know, now I can only bless them.” Fuweili’s face darkened.

Now she could barely protect herself. In fact, deep down, she already knew the outcome of her several good friends, she just didn’t dare to think about it.

“Okay, good luck to them, and good luck to us.” Lin Lei patted Fuweili’s shoulder to show comfort.

“Alright, stop thinking about it, go inside and find a flat place to rest,” Lin Lei said.

Fuweili asked doubtfully: “What about you?”

“Of course I’m resting too, but I have to guard the entrance for a while first. That group of beasts just now should have a male beast out hunting, I have to guard against it coming back for revenge.”

“Oh, then you be careful.” Having witnessed Lin Lei’s amazing strength, she wasn’t worried about this, and she was indeed exhausted.

Soon, Fuweili fell asleep, while Lin Lei sat at the cave entrance with his eyes closed to rest. Everything seemed very quiet.

Both of them ignored a major crisis.
