Chapter 7: The Car Accident After History Changed
Chapter 7: The Car Accident After History Changed
Lin Lei walked out of the restaurant, satisfied. He stood at the entrance and admired the night view of the city.
Just then, a stream of information flowed from the System inside his body.
“Level 2 Reinforcement is beginning to store materials and energy. Current progress is 0.1%.”
“…” Lin Lei was stunned. What? Level 2 Reinforcement? A big meal only contributed this little progress. That meant he would have to eat a thousand such meals like tonight to complete the storage!
Lin Lei felt depressed. Did he have to binge eat and drink like he did this afternoon? That would be too tiring. Did the System take him for a glutton?
Besides, he didn’t have that much money, nor did he have the time to complete the storage.
Forget it, he thought. Let’s leave it for now. The important thing was to leave Earth as soon as possible.
It was already 9:30 PM. Evening self-study at school had ended, and students were passing by on bicycles in small groups on the streets.
Heh, if he remembered correctly, Yan Siyu was also a day student. If he was lucky, he might run into her here.
Imagining Yan Siyu’s surprised expression when she saw him, Lin Lei chuckled. He threw the toothpick in his hand into a trash can and walked towards the school with a relaxed look on his face.
Now, he couldn’t quite figure out his feelings for Yan Siyu, the Alien. There was admiration, and there was also fear. It was very complicated. However, one thing was clear: he and Yan Siyu, an Aostarian, could not have a future. At least, the current him could not!
“Warning! A high-speed moving mechanical object is 500 meters behind. Trajectory measurement results show the driver’s spirit is in an unstable excited state!”
“Move the body one meter to the right!”
Just as Lin Lei jumped one meter to the right under the control of the System, he felt a gust of foul wind whistle past his side. A bright yellow sports car sped past, barely missing the hem of his clothes.
Lin Lei broke out in a cold sweat of fright. Damn it, he had almost lost his life!
Such a scene hadn’t happened in his past life. Had the test from Lord Heaven followed immediately after he prepared to shoulder heavy responsibilities in this life?
Bad! There was a school nearby, and evening self-study had just ended. With that reckless driving of the sports car, could an accident be avoided?!
As this thought spun in Lin Lei’s brain, shrill braking sounds, creepy collision sounds, and screams came from ahead.
This jerk, an accident really happened! Lin Lei hurriedly ran towards the scene.
Running less than a hundred meters, at a corner, he found a crowd gathered around. This city had quite a few people at night, especially when there was something interesting to watch. Lin Lei pushed through the crowd. First to catch his eye was the bright yellow sports car. Its front end had crashed into the brick wall of the adjacent school courtyard, deformed grotesquely.
A young man with a head full of blood was leaning against the car door, sitting on the ground, looking dispirited. He didn’t know whether he felt guilty or was purely stunned by fear.
Huh? Didn’t he hit anyone? Wait, whose bloodstains were those on the ground? Although the blood wasn’t much, it was scattered in spots, looking exceptionally glaring. This absolutely couldn’t be shed by the driver inside the car.
Lin Lei scanned around and saw a silver-red women’s bicycle, extremely twisted and deformed, about ten meters away. This bike… looked familiar!
A shadow flashed in his heart, and that shadow suddenly turned into the most terrifying nightmare as Lin Lei’s gaze moved. Had history changed because of his rebirth?!
The person lying on the ground twenty meters away, wasn’t that Yan Siyu, his deskmate! How could it be like this? How could it be like this!
Wasn’t she an Aostarian? Didn’t she have a Protective Force Field? Lin Lei let out a wail, pushed through the crowd forcefully, rushed forward, and hugged the unconscious person on the ground in his arms.
Yan Siyu’s face was as pale as paper, her breathing was weak, and there were spots of bloodstains at the corner of her mouth. Fortunately, her body was intact, lacking no parts. This might be the protection of her Protective Force Field. But since she was coughing up blood, her condition couldn’t be good.
Anger! It began to burn fiercely in Lin Lei’s chest. His eyes turned completely red, and he stared straight at the young man not far away. He now had the impulse to destroy this person.
“Detected that the Host has a strong impulse to understand the physical state of the contacted biological entity.”
“Starting biological entity state detection…”
“Target: Yan Siyu (Elite Aostarian)”
Status detection results:
“No external injuries to the body. Slight cracks in the leg bones. Internal organs suffered moderate shock, with slight bleeding symptoms.”
“Surface consciousness has temporarily been lost, currently in the process of awakening.”
“Target identified as moderately injured status!”
“Given the Aostarians’ power ful self-healing functions, this injury is expected to heal in two standard Earth days.”
“Lin Lei, is that you?” The person in his arms called out softly.
This voice instantly extinguished Lin Lei’s raging anger.
Although Lin Lei’s eyes were still red, he regained his reason. He looked at the weak Yan Siyu in his arms and asked gently, “How are you? How can I help you?”
“Take me away from here.”
“Okay!” Lin Lei picked up Yan Siyu as gently as possible, let her bury her face in his chest, and then forcibly pushed through the onlookers, trying to break out.
“Bro, the ambulance is coming soon. Moving her around like this will only harm your girlfriend!” This was a well-meaning reminder from a passerby.
However, Lin Lei knew the situation better than he did. Pretending not to hear, he just silently carried the person to leave.
“Stop him, quick!” A shout rang out! Lin Lei turned his head and saw two neighborhood police officers in uniform. Damn it, why did the police arrive so fast this time!
Lin Lei could feel Yan Siyu’s body stiffen slightly in his arms. Obviously, she didn’t want to go to the hospital or the police station.
Lin Lei threw everything else aside, used the brute strength obtained after Level 1 Reinforcement, and directly knocked several passersby who tried to stop him flying backward and down. Then he quickened his steps and ran away like the wind.
“…” The two neighborhood police officers who were patrolling this area chased vigorously for a while, but finally couldn’t even see their backs. The two of them stopped walking and looked at each other.
“Liu, that young guy was carrying a person just now, right?”
“Not sure, maybe. But why did he run so fast?”
“Could it be the power of love?”
“Nonsense! When I got married, carrying my wife upstairs exhausted me to half a death. If love had this power, wouldn’t all of China be Liu Xiangs?”
“…”
Setting aside these two police officers falling into the theory of love skepticism, Lin Lei now thoroughly experienced the physical changes after Level 1 Reinforcement.
Now, he wasn’t much different from a martial arts master. He truly ran like flying. He felt that if he ran the hundred meters, he could definitely break ten seconds! And it would be very relaxed.
“Lin Lei, you’ve become stronger again.” Yan Siyu was also full of curiosity in her heart. In the afternoon, Lin Lei was still weak and had fainted. How could he be like Superman now?
Lin Lei smiled and changed the subject: “Siyu, where are we going now?” Running like this all the time isn’t a solution.
Yan Siyu frowned and thought for a moment: “Let’s go to the suburbs, just to the riverside we went to this afternoon. I can’t go to the place where I live. I don’t want to be questioned.”
Her injury would heal in two days, and with the medical device, it would heal tomorrow. She had already decided to leave Earth as soon as she recovered. This place was too dangerous, too barbaric!
For some reason, Lin Lei understood Yan Siyu’s thoughts. He slowed down his steps: “You are leaving?”
Yan Siyu didn’t answer, just looked at the suddenly desolate Earthling with surprise. Yes, she had confirmed Lin Lei’s identity. Perhaps a bit powerful, but essentially, he was still an Earthling.
Lin Lei continued: “You are going back, back to your mother planet. That’s good. But my Earthling mother planet will face the fate of being invaded and destroyed.”
“…” Yan Siyu’s eyes opened even wider. She tightly bit her lower lip to keep herself from gasping in surprise.
“It’s strange that you know these things, isn’t it? Actually, I know far more than you imagine. I just can’t change all this.”
Yan Siyu ultimately couldn’t hold back: “Earth will not be destroyed. Some humans might die in war, but they won’t be massacred. There are clear regulations in the Galaxy Star Alliance about this.”
Some of their duties as Observers were to supervise wars between intelligent beings and maintain a bottom line.
Lin Lei pressed his lips tightly together and remained silent, just hugging the person in his arms tighter and accelerating his run.
Yangguan Middle School was on the edge of the city. Lin Lei also tried to take shortcuts. In less than ten minutes, he returned to the small riverside outside the school.
It was already past ten o’clock. At this late hour, even the teaching director, who had suspiciously perverted tendencies, wouldn’t be so bored as to run around here aimlessly.
Lin Lei found a smooth stone and sat down. Hmm, it was a bit cold. After thinking for a moment, Lin Lei had Yan Siyu sit on his lap.
It was the deep night in early summer, and the stone was ice cold. Yan Siyu, injured internally, certainly couldn’t sit on it.
Yan Siyu saw this small act of gentleness. Originally, she disliked physical contact with Earthlings. But for this deskmate, she didn’t feel resistance in her heart. She suddenly couldn’t bear to part with this Earthling.
Too many things happened today. From the forced kiss in class to the battle by the riverside, to the car accident just now. This Earthling man’s domineering nature, wildness, decisiveness, anger, sadness, and gentleness were all seen by her, touching her once lofty heart.
In the past, she observed Earth from a higher Dimension. Events on Earth were just stories playing out on a drawing sheet for her, staying only on the level of “knowing.”
But this Earthling man today changed her view. It turned out that the beings living on this semi-barbaric planet were also wise creatures with flesh and blood.
Yan Siyu rested her head against Lin Lei’s hard and broad chest, listening to the powerful heartbeat inside, and couldn’t help but ask: “Lei, if the invasion comes, will you fight?”
Lin Lei looked up at the boundless starry sky, his eyes narrowing again. This had become his habitual action when killing intent exploded in his heart. The Layite People would repay blood debts with blood sooner or later!
But not now. Lin Lei said slowly, “The gap in technology! Makes Earth’s resistance meaningless. I won’t fight. I want to leave Earth. In the near future, I can’t change it; but in the farther future, no one can tell. I need an opportunity to leave Earth!”
Lin Lei withdrew his gaze and looked intently at Yan Siyu in his arms: “Can you give me this opportunity?”
This domineering gaze again. Yan Siyu felt somewhat flustered being looked at by Lin Lei. How could this person make demands of her so naturally? And herself, seemed unwilling to refuse.
“Are you sure you can revive a race alone? Where does your confidence come from?”
Lin Lei’s eyes showed sorrow: “This is the last path! I know you have superior wisdom, but some things are still beyond your imagination.”
Yan Siyu was somewhat unconvinced. What right did this Earthling have to say this? Just because of his Earth, whose civilization level was only Fourth-grade?
Lin Lei obviously saw this. He forced a smile worse than crying: “Heh heh, I say this because I understand my race! Earthlings walked step by step to the peak of this planet in wars of blood and fire. So, facing powerful and irresistible external forces, their last self-esteem would inevitably lead Earthlings to self-destruct in blood and fire! Time will prove everything I said.”
“And I will be the spark of the phoenix nirvana, going into the Universe to find an opportunity for my race to regain its dignity!”
Yan Siyu had lived in the infinite glory brought by Ao Star since childhood. Now, hearing the sorrow and cruelty of the lower civilization revealed in Lin Lei’s words, she couldn’t help but feel startled and alarmed.
This Earthling who provided her with a warm embrace was a true warrior!
A true warrior lies not in skills, nor in strength, but in belief! Just like the ancient ancestors of Ao Star recorded in Ao Star history books, fighting for the opportunity to preserve the seed of their race amidst thorns and darkness.
This warrior, however, had now put down his pride and begged for help from himself. Although he still used a nearly domineering manner, perhaps this was his last dignity.
Faced with such a request, Yan Siyu found it hard to refuse. She turned her face to the quietly flowing small river and said in a muffled voice:
“Tomorrow morning, you can get one opportunity to be transported to a random humanoid planet. After that, it will depend on your own circumstances.”
“Then, thank you, Siyu!”
“Rest. This is the last night for you and me on Earth.”
