Chapter 8: 5,000 Light Years in an Instant

The night gradually deepened, and a slight chill rose over the small river. Perhaps sensing the cold, Yan Siyu curled up entirely in Lin Lei’s arms, seeking warmth.

The trust shown by this alien girl moved Lin Lei a little. His body was now power ful, and he felt nothing of the early summer night’s chill; instead, he felt comfortable. He simply took off his shirt and covered Yan Siyu with it; it was better than nothing.

Thinking that he would leave Earth tomorrow, Lin Lei felt no sleepiness at all. After leaving Earth, any experience from his past life would become useless, and his future path would truly begin to be shrouded in mist.

He clearly knew the vastness of the Universe. To not get lost in it, besides knowledge and luck, the belief in his heart would be his final support.

He was about to lose this Earth that had raised him for eighteen years, his roots. Although he knew his goal, he still felt confused and helpless regarding the extremely unknown future.

Then, just like that, holding Yan Siyu, he sat quietly for the whole night…

Until the morning birds sang clearly, and a faint morning mist rose over the river, Lin Lei suddenly woke up from his daze. It was already dawn.

Lowering his head, he saw Yan Siyu’s eyes, like black agate, staring at him. Lin Lei smiled gently: “Did you sleep well last night?”

Yan Siyu’s pretty face turned slightly red, and she tried her best to use a calm tone: “Very well. Since leaving my home planet, this was the most peaceful sleep I’ve had. What were you thinking about just now? Were you worrying about the future?”

“Mhm, I was just a little confused, but I’m better now, heh heh.”

Yan Siyu stood up from Lin Lei’s arms. When she saw the men’s shirt on her body, her face turned even redder. She hurriedly took it off and handed it back: “Thank you. I believe you will definitely succeed!”

“I just do my best!”

Roaming the Universe alone, even for a fully equipped Ao Star elite warrior, was a difficult task. This Universe was simply too big, so big that Ao Star’s technology could not detect its edge.

Every warrior who went out on an adventure alone would return to Ao Star after a year or two, suffering from autism to varying degrees. Yet, the man before him, who had almost nothing, had the courage to walk out!

Yan Siyu could tell that Lin Lei was not acting on impulse, but had made a final choice after repeated consideration. He did not hide his weak emotions, nor did he make arrogant boasts, leaving only a genuine plainness.

Yet within that plainness flashed a thunder that moved Yan Siyu. This human might truly be the hope of Earth. He possessed all the qualities needed by a savior.

“Come with me, my teleporter is not far from here.” Yan Siyu turned around, trying her best to hide her emotional fluctuations.

“Okay, you lead the way.” Lin Lei did not say much.

The two walked along the river. After walking for about half an hour, covering two thousand meters, they arrived at a secluded foot of a mountain. A large rock stood there abruptly. The base connected to it was incredibly huge, almost merging with the entire mountain.

Yan Siyu stopped and pointed at the rock, saying to Lin Lei: “This rock is the teleporter. The patterns on the outside are just a disguise. This rock absorbs solar energy and usually stores teleportation energy. I have an instrument linked to it, which shows that the energy stored over the years is 1.7 times what is needed for one teleportation.”

Lin Lei looked with doubt in his eyes; if that were the case, how could the teleportation of two people be achieved?

Yan Siyu continued to explain: “The teleportation process is divided into two steps: positioning and transmission. Positioning requires 40% of the energy. So, after I teleport back, the remaining energy can allow you to complete an unpositioned teleportation, which is the teleportation to a random Earth-like planet I mentioned yesterday.”

“Oh, I understand. Siyu, will we meet again in the future?” Lin Lei finally felt the reluctance in his heart.

Yan Siyu slowly turned around, her eyes slightly red. She walked in front of Lin Lei and gently kissed his cheek: “Perhaps we will meet again. I didn’t believe in the fate you Earthlings talk about before, but now I would rather believe it exists. Lei, good luck!”

Lin Lei took a deep breath and said: “I will strive to live! What should I do now?”

“Place your hand flat here, on the smooth spot. Don’t think about anything in your mind. Brain waves have a subtle influence on teleportation. Are you ready?”

“I’m ready!”

In the next instant, Lin Lei felt everything before his eyes begin to distort. The distorted image turned into a black vortex. His body felt a slight tearing sensation, followed by darkness before his eyes, and then a flash of light. The surroundings had changed completely.

The surrounding scenery was no longer the Earth familiar to Lin Lei, but a blue color with a dreamy tone. Above his head hung a huge planet emitting a hazy blue light, occupying almost a small half of the night sky. Beside this planet, there were actually three smaller planets of different sizes, which was very strange.

If Lin Lei didn’t have good eyesight, apart from these four planets, he wouldn’t be able to see any other stars in the Galaxy. Anyway, everything here revealed a strong exotic style.

This was indeed an alien planet.

“Detected sudden change in environmental gravity. Starting to establish new environment database.”

“Surface gravitational acceleration is 13.6 m/s2, which is 1.38 times the average gravitational acceleration of Earth.”

“Atmospheric composition: Oxygen 28%, Nitrogen 70%, Carbon Dioxide 0.5%, Inert Gas 1%, 0.5% Dust.”

“Air dust composition analysis: Higher plant pollen 0.1%. Spore plant spores 0.3%, Dust 0.01%.”

“Environment detection result: Basically suitable for Host survival.”

“Starting to enhance the respiratory system’s filtering function for air dust.”

“Starting to adjust whole body muscle and bone structure to adapt to higher gravitational acceleration.”

“Starting to adjust heart output power to ensure sufficient blood supply to the brain.”

“Starting star map comparison to determine location in the Universe. Please observe the sky, Host.” Lin Lei raised his head as instructed.

…

“Comparison complete. This planet is located in the third spiral arm of the Galaxy, designated Y3—LH15345—P006. It is about 5034 Light Years away from Earth. It is the sixth satellite, Blue Rain Star, of the fifth liquid planet in this Star System. No intelligent life has developed on this satellite yet; it is a standard primeval Earth-like planet.”

“Body adjustment complete.”

With this information, the slight discomfort Lin Lei felt upon arriving at this planet completely disappeared. He jumped in place a few times and felt it was similar to Earth, which gave him some comfort.

Survival issues were temporarily resolved, but next, Lin Lei had urgent physiological needs like eating, drinking, and relieving himself, which made him worry. He was completely unfamiliar with this planet and totally in the dark. What was edible or drinkable, what was poisonous and untouchable, and even what could be used to wipe his bottom without pricking him were all questions worth considering!

“Danger! A large animal is approaching rapidly.”

“Approaching target identified. It is a Komodo Beast, a unique large higher carnivore of this planet. Weight 190 kilograms, body length including tail 3.1 meters. Physical Energy Level: 2.3 Energy Level. Pure physical attack mode.”

“Turn around, dodge sideways!”

Lin Lei had no time to react at all before his body was controlled by the internal System to turn quickly and lunge to the side. During the lunge, Lin Lei saw a large black shadow from the corner of his eye crossing paths with him.

“Plop.” Lin Lei fell onto a blue, soft mushroom-shaped plant. Subconsciously, he continued to roll to the side.

Sure enough, the spot where he had just fallen was occupied by the black shadow a second later.

At this moment, Lin Lei truly saw the true face of the attacking beast. It was hairless all over, glowing with a dark blue sheen, seeming to shimmer like water at all times. Its shape was similar to felines on Earth, but its claws and teeth were more exaggerated and sharp, also flashing with a deadly blue luster.

The nose of this Komodo Beast was rather funny, sporting a large cluster of fur, probably to filter air dust. At this moment, its tail was swaying left and right like a snake, with terrifying barbs on the tip.

Damn, to face this big guy as soon as I arrive on this planet. I have no weapon, and I’m small. How can I fight it? Run? That’s seeking death. Danger is everywhere here. The result of running blindly is imaginable!

What to do?! I wonder if the so-called Emergency Mode can help him escape with his life.

Lin Lei confronted the Komodo Beast silently, not daring to show a shred of timidity. According to experience on Earth, if his courage failed first, the next second he would face the beast’s merciless attack.

Fortunately, this experience applied here too. The Komodo Beast’s ambush failed, and the follow-up combo attack didn’t succeed either. The strange creature opposite had already been labeled “hard to deal with” in its simple mind; it needed to observe further!

“System, activate Emergency Mode!” Lin Lei shouted in his mind.

“Emergency Mode activated!”

“Primary Protective Force Field applied to head, neck, chest, abdomen, back, and crotch. Energy 0.5 Energy Level. Duration 2S.”

“Limb muscle cells activated, injected with 0.8 Energy Level. Duration 2S.”

“Combat capability assessment: Enemy 15 Mos Index, Our side 25 Mos Index. Win rate fluctuates between 85%-95%.”

As soon as Lin Lei finished speaking, the System’s information stream flashed past like rain. Lin Lei hesitated not a moment and charged toward the Komodo Beast opposite him. Over the past two days, the System had saved him several times, so he chose to trust it unconditionally.

At the same time, the Komodo Beast roared and pounced at Lin Lei.

In an instant, Lin Lei’s chest was scratched four times by the Komodo Beast’s sharp claws, his back was stabbed by its wildly swinging tail, and even his crotch was grazed by a raised hind paw of the beast, ruining his pants. His neck was bitten by its large mouth. And Lin Lei’s fingertips had just touched the back of the Komodo Beast’s head.

Lin Lei’s strengthened strength was not much different from the Komodo Beast’s, and the two were locked in a stalemate. In terms of combat experience, Lin Lei was far behind this beast.

However, the System inside Lin Lei had long predicted these attacks and deployed a Protective Force Field, so the Komodo Beast’s attacks were basically ineffective, leaving only a few slight blood marks.

“Destructive Force Field injected into fingers. Energy 1.0 Energy Level. Duration 1.5S.”

Lin Lei and the System worked together seamlessly. As soon as the destructive force field was injected into his fingers, he instinctively closed his fingers. Sure enough, his hand was now indestructible. Grabbing the back of the Komodo Beast’s head was like grabbing tofu; he directly pierced through and smashed its head. The scene was as bloody as it could be.

However, the Komodo Beast’s blood was also dark blue, so Lin Lei didn’t feel that disgusted by the gore. As for the Komodo Beast, the moment its head burst, its whole body went limp. Clearly, it was dead!

“Emergency Mode canceled. Total energy consumed: 1.8 Energy Level. Suggest immediate energy replenishment!”

I’m dizzy, where am I supposed to go to replenish energy? Do I eat this beast… it’s glowing blue, is it poisonous?

The internal System immediately dispelled the doubt:

“Komodo Beast, carbon-based life form. Internal organic matter has a left-handed structure, meeting body absorption requirements.”

“Activating alien food anti-allergy mechanism!”

“Activating trace toxin removal mechanism!”

Damn, this System might as well just say “Eat with confidence!” Lin Lei looked at the bizarre beast corpse; he really couldn’t bring himself to eat it.

Forget it, endure it. In this damn place, not replenishing energy is a dead end. Compared to life, what is a little disgust!

Lin Lei constantly hypnotized himself: This is ice cream, this is ice cream! Then he closed his eyes and directly lay on the wound at the back of the head, sucking the steaming hot brain matter and blood.

“Mmm! Tastes pretty good. It has a mushroom flavor and a slight salty taste. Not fishy at all. Haha, great!”

Lin Lei didn’t look at the gory back of the Komodo Beast’s head, but just thought these things in his mind to find joy in misery.

With this sucking, Lin Lei almost absorbed half of the Komodo Beast’s entire body’s blood. Finally, he wiped his blue lips, patted his bulging belly, and fell down directly beside the Komodo Beast’s corpse, looking at the one large and three small “Moons” in the sky. But his thoughts had turned to the food analysis of the internal System.

“Blood contains multiple trace elements needed by the human body. Excess mineral elements excluded.”

“Blood contains exceptionally rich high-energy organic molecules! Host body energy effectively replenished, rising to 2.0 Energy Level.”

This blood is a good thing! I just ate one meal and recovered. Then wouldn’t the meat of this beast have an even higher energy content? This good stuff must be kept to be finished.

Heaven really treats me well. Just as I said I lacked food, it sent such a huge lump of meat, heh heh.

But where to store these things was a big problem. When Lin Lei watched Animal World before, whenever a corpse appeared on the African savannah, hyenas, vultures, and even lions and leopards would come to steal it if the corpse was fresh enough.

Now with such a big Komodo Beast, I can’t drag it away. What should I do? I still need to find a safe place to rest, at least a place where I won’t be sneak-attacked without reason.

Maybe when I come back, this beast corpse will have been dragged away by various carnivorous and scavenging beasts. It’s really worrying!

Sigh, a snake tries to swallow an elephant due to greed. Forget it. I’ll just cut off a leg to take with me. I’ll treat the rest as a bargain for the other animals.
