Chapter 9: New Planet, New Life

The teeth and two front claws of the Komodo Beast were extremely sharp, making them excellent materials for making weapon s and tools.

Lin Lei, who was now dead broke, certainly would not let these go to waste. He used both his hands and mouth, tearing and biting, and finally managed to sever the muscles and tendons connecting the front claws.

Phew, the things on this alien planet’s beasts were really tough; it made his teeth sore from biting!

The next part was simple. Each sharp claw on the front claws popped out like a small dagger. Lin Lei used the enemy’s own weapon against them and hacked off the Komodo Beast’s two hind legs, the other front claw, teeth, and the barbed tail.

What? You say there’s too much stuff to carry?

No rope? That was simple. The large tendon from the Komodo Beast’s spine was pulled out to use as a rope. It wasn’t very easy to use, but it was certainly sturdy.

After doing all this, Lin Lei finally had time to observe his appearance. The clothes on his chest were completely torn, there was a large hole torn in his back, and the worst part was his pants. Little Lin Lei’s home was destroyed, and now it was peeking out from the strips of cloth.

Depressing. He had been on this primitive planet for less than an hour, and he had already assimilated into a bare-chested savage. The clothes and pants were unwearable. This pile of rags, wearing them to seduce people—oh no, seduce beasts?

Lin Lei tore the cloth strips off his body, ripped them into strips, tied them together, and made a rope. He couldn’t throw this stuff away either. Sigh, conditions were too harsh; not a single thread could be wasted.

Lin Lei lacked everything else but strength. Carrying the two hind legs of the Komodo Beast on his back, which weighed almost a hundred catties, he didn’t feel the strain at all.

Hmm, she was just a bit heavier than Yan Siyu. Hehe, thinking of Yan Siyu, Lin Lei’s mood darkened. She should have returned to Ao Star by now, right? Ao Star was near the center of the Galaxy, and he was now tens of thousands of Light Years away from her. This distance made Lin Lei feel powerless deep down.

Stop thinking, stop thinking. As the saying goes, once well-fed and warm, one thinks of lust. He was temporarily fed, but warm was out of the question. His clothes were gone, and he hadn’t even found a place to settle down. He should put this luxury emotion behind him for now.

Lin Lei’s naked body was gleaming white, appearing unusually striking on this blue-toned planet. Wandering around like this was truly very dangerous.

The System certainly would not allow this danger caused by stupidity to exist indefinitely. So, when passing a crystal plant that was tender enough to drip water, a stream of information was transmitted.

“Discovered plant: Azure Crystal Extract. Non-toxic, non-irritating substances. Its sap is a natural excellent dye. It is recommended that the Host use it immediately to obtain body protective coloration.”

Lin Lei still had common sense about protective coloration. He originally wanted to use the Komodo Beast’s blood, but on second thought, the bloody smell would attract even more attention, so he abandoned that plan. Now that he had a high-quality substitute, it was like being given a pillow just when he felt sleepy.

Lin Lei picked a few leaves of the Azure Crystal Extract, rubbed them in his hands, and then smeared the paste directly on his face, then his body, and then his lower body. A quarter of an hour later, a native of the planet with a misty blue sheen all over his body was born.

This Azure Crystal Extract was really good stuff. Once the sap on his body dried, it wouldn’t fade even if he rubbed it hard. It almost gave Lin Lei the absurd notion that his original skin color was blue. This dye was too effective!

Now Lin Lei was wandering aimlessly. Apart from wasting energy sightseeing, he gained nothing. There wasn’t even a shadow of a so-called hiding spot. Ultimately, it was because he was unfamiliar with this planet.

If this were Earth, he could just hide in any corner. But here, Lin Lei couldn’t find any sense of security at all.

It didn’t matter if he didn’t understand; someone understood.

“System, please provide suggestions for a hiding place.” Lin Lei had now basically mastered the method of communicating with the System; he just needed to recite it silently in his mind.

“Option one: Find a giant spore plant and dig a hole in its stem to shelter in.”

“Option two: Find the nest of the killed Komodo Beast.”

“Option three: Dig a cave in a place with dense soil structure.”

“Whether to enable giant spore plant and geological detection? Consumption: 0.001 Energy Level per second.”

Lin Lei felt embarrassed. Ten minutes would consume 0.6 Energy Levels. Wasn’t that asking for his life?

Risk it! Without a shelter, he wouldn’t even have a place to rest when tired, and his body would surely collapse quickly. This initial investment was necessary. It seemed that no matter where one was, housing had to be fought for with one’s life.

“Enable detection!”

Next, Lin Lei discovered that his eyes had become like telescopes, the kind used for astronomical observation. Looking up at the sky, he could even see the subtle flow of gaseous matter on the surface of that large planet. The other stars, which had been looming just a moment ago, were now densely covering the sky, looking extremely magnificent.

This was too magical. Had the System altered the structure of his eyes?

“Error! The principle is the magnification effect of an optical force field lens.”

No wonder it consumed so much energy; it turned out a force field was being operated. Although Lin Lei didn’t know how the System generated a force field, based on his usage over the past two days, a force field was something that consumed high energy, was formless and substanceless, but very useful.

Sigh, the energy he could provide was still too little.

“Detection complete. Using the geomagnetic South Pole as a reference, at 15 degrees East by South, 2000 meters away, there is a giant umbrella-shaped spore plant that meets the requirements for building a nest.”

Actually, he didn’t need the System to say it; Lin Lei saw it himself. Since the System said it met the requirements, there was no mistake. Lin Lei tightened the two Komodo Beast legs on his back and started rushing towards the destination two kilometers away.

…

Although he could tell from two kilometers away that this mushroom was very large, it was only when he arrived right in front of it that Lin Lei truly felt shocked.

The stem of this spore plant had an estimated diameter of over forty meters and a height of over a hundred meters. It was practically a post-modern style skyscraper.

This is the place! Digging a hole up here to live in would be like a bachelor apartment in a high-rise, hehe.

Lin Lei certainly wouldn’t be stupid enough to dig a hole at the base of the mushroom to live in; that would offer no protection. If he was going to dig, he had to dig higher, at least where ordinary beasts couldn’t climb up.

At this moment, the two front claws of the Komodo Beast came in handy. Lin Lei directly used one to gouge the Mushroom Tree, creating a pit. He even tasted a piece of the mushroom fragment, but spat it out as soon as it entered his mouth. What kind of mushroom was this? It was pure tree bark, as tough as cowhide, and had an astringent taste, just like soap. It had none of the fresh flavor of a mushroom.

Whatever, start digging. Lin Lei held a claw in each hand, gouging out pits as he climbed up the Mushroom Tree. When he reached a height of about ten meters, he looked down and felt a bit dizzy.

Alright, dig here. Otherwise, he might not get eaten by a beast later, but die from falling while sleeping. That would make people laugh their teeth out.

In terms of digging speed, the front claws were not as efficient as the Komodo Beast’s long dagger-like canine teeth. So, after using the front claws to gouge out a shelter, Lin Lei switched to using the large canine teeth.

The canine tooth chiseled in, and with a fierce pull, a deep groove was made. After carving four deep grooves and prying hard, a large square chunk came out. The Mushroom Tree only had an outer layer about half a meter deep, which was very tough. If not for the sharpness of the Komodo Beast claws, Lin Lei would have really struggled to dig in.

Once inside, the texture became soft and tender. As he dug, mushroom sap even seeped out, making Lin Lei doubt the feasibility of living here.

“System, can people really live here? If I fall into the mushroom flesh in my sleep, won’t I sink in?”

He was a person with common sense. What did the biology book say? Oh, right, mushrooms belong to fungi, which survive by absorbing organic matter. They don’t perform photosynthesis like real plants, producing their own food.

If he suffocated by sinking into the mushroom while sleeping and was absorbed as nutrients, wouldn’t that be unjust?

“This species is a semi-fungal, semi-plant organism. It can perform quasi-photosynthesis to provide a portion of its own nutrients.”

“After a cavity is generated within the organism, it will secrete a large amount of gel-like liquid to heal the wound and stop nutrient supply here.”

“After twelve hours, the fresh skin tissue will wither and become tough, dead skin tissue with a protective effect. At that time, it will become an ideal dwelling.”

The System explained patiently.

Lin Lei listened and let out a long sigh of relief. His motivation surged, and he dug wildly, actually managing to carve out a two-bedroom, one-living-room layout.

Lin Lei had it planned out. The larger room would be for sleeping, and the smaller one for storing food. As for the living hall, sigh, it was actually useless; Lin Lei just made it to increase the space.

However, the total space was still less than thirty square meters, and the depth was only six meters. Lin Lei didn’t dare dig deeper. If he killed this Mushroom Tree, that would be big trouble.

After finishing the digging, Lin Lei rested for a while. He thought about it and realized something was wrong. There was another problem: there was only one exit here. If it got blocked, he would be in a panic.

He thought of it and did it. The previous entrance opened upwards, so he opened another one going downwards. It served as both an escape route and a ventilation shaft, killing two birds with one stone.

By the time the entire housing project was completed, Lin Lei had been busy for nearly ten hours! If his physical fitness hadn’t improved so much, he really wouldn’t have been able to handle it.

Pushing all the dug-out mushroom chunks out of the hole, Lin Lei prepared to stay outside for a while, waiting for his nest to take shape naturally.

Sure enough, after ten hours had passed, the entrance had already started to take shape.

The withered dead skin tissue felt a bit dry and fuzzy to the touch, somewhat like a wool carpet. Lin Lei tugged at it hard, but couldn’t pull anything off. It was comparable in toughness to the outermost skin of the mushroom.

Not bad, even the carpet was laid for free. This was truly a good place.

From now on, this was his home. And the short-term goal was to complete the Level 2 Reinforcement of his physical fitness!
