Chapter 14: Conscription

“Ah!”

An Xiaowei screamed. The sensation of flying through the clouds and mist made her instinctively hold onto Zhou Liming tightly, closing her eyes and daring not to look.

Being hugged by An Xiaowei like this, Zhou Liming’s whole body tensed up and stiffened, and he almost fell off the car roof. After slightly adjusting his breathing, Zhou Liming almost without pause, used his strength again and leaped violently into the air, landing on another car parked a few meters away. Because of the force used, the thin iron shell of the roof directly sank with two footprints.

Most of the cars on the street had people in them. They only heard a “bang,” and the whole car body shook. Before they could understand what was happening, Zhou Liming had already taken An Xiaowei and jumped onto another car. Some people sitting inside the cars were dumbfounded: “Superman?”

The people squeezed in the gaps between the cars on the street could only stupidly watch Zhou Liming leave, and then, amidst the roars of the Fierce Beast not far behind them, they fled in panic again. The threat to their lives made them erupt with huge potential, and everyone risked their lives to squeeze forward. The street was in a mess, filled with the cries of people. The helpless people, under the crowding, could only watch helplessly as the Fierce Beast charged around the street like a tank, until they were slapped away and fell into endless darkness.

The manic Fierce Beast had long lost its reason and only knew how to smash everything in front of it.

The Fighter Jet in the sky seemed to have discovered that the previous strike did not kill this Fierce Beast. Amidst the whistling sounds, another one dived down and flew towards the street.

The Fierce Beast looked up at the diving Fighter Jet while running wildly, and suddenly leaped up. Its powerful lower limbs stepped heavily on a nearby tall building. Amidst the sound of shattering, it crushed the surface glass, and cement debris flew everywhere. The Fierce Beast also used the force of this step to bounce onto another building. Amidst the constant refraction, it actually rose to a height of thirty or forty floors, raised one of its palms, and slapped towards the diving Fighter Jet.

Like a sci-fi movie, the shocking scene made many people lose their minds.

But how could the Fierce Beast’s movements compare to the speed of the diving Fighter Jet? The pilot of this J-11 dodged the giant palm swung down with a sideways maneuver at the critical moment. After the fuselage rotated a few times in the air above the street, it rushed up into the sky.

The leaping Fierce Beast lost its support and smashed down from the air thirty or forty floors high with a “whoosh.”

With a loud “bang,” the Fierce Beast smashed onto the street. Several cars on top were like being pressed down by a punching machine, shattering and being flattened. This Fierce Beast, similar to a gorilla, weighed at least several tons. One could imagine how huge the impact force was when it smashed down from a high altitude. The entire street cracked, and a deep pit in the shape of the Fierce Beast appeared in the thick cement street.

The flying cement debris and the raised mud and dust caused a burst of screams from the people affected. The people at the position where the Fierce Beast smashed down had no time to even scream before they were smashed into meat paste and sunk deep into the mud. The deep pit smashed out by the Fierce Beast was full of blood.

“Roar!”

Suffering this injury even more fatal than the missile attack just now, this Fierce Beast actually did not die, but let out a roar, struggling to climb out of the pit. Its whole body was cracked, blood flowed out from its body, and its eyes, nose, and mouth were all bleeding. Its rough panting and bloodthirsty eyes made a chill rise from the bottom of anyone’s heart.

No one knew exactly how tough these Fierce Beasts were. Their skin had reached an incredible level of strength, which could not be compared with ordinary beasts.

The struggling Fierce Beast suddenly stood up and looked up to the sky, letting out a hissing roar.

Everyone changed color again and started a new round of escape. In the chaos, people were constantly pushed down and then trampled over. The brutality of the Fierce Beast just now went deep into everyone’s heart. Its strength, which could not be stopped by human power, made humans seem so small and negligible in front of it.

The J-11 that had just left did not go far, but adjusted its angle in the air and flew back again.

The sound of the Missile sharply tearing the air was heard. The pilot, who had just broken out in a cold sweat, did not lower the fuselage but fired an air-to-ground Missile right above the street. The Missile dragging its tail, with a trajectory visible to the naked eye, hit the heavily injured Fierce Beast once again.

The tearing force produced by the strong pressure made this gorilla-like Fierce Beast let out a miserable roar. Its entire huge body was torn apart by the explosion of the Missile. Chunks of meat weighing hundreds of kilograms were blown away, and the whole sky was filled with a mist of blood. The powerful body, after all, could not withstand the enemy’s high-tech weapons again and again.

“Yeah!”

“Damn it, it’s finally dead.”

People cheered, shouting at the Fierce Beast that had become a pile of rotten meat, venting the terror it had just brought. In everyone’s heart, they all hoped there would be more Fighter Jets in the sky. This way, even if they could not destroy these monsters, at least they could stop them and give people more time to escape. However, this was just a luxury. With so many cities on the coast of the whole country, the Air Force was simply too busy to handle it. And the speed of the army destined them not to arrive in the first place…

Knowing that this city was not a place to stay for long, people continued to surge and flee.

The crisis was temporarily lifted. Zhou Liming put An Xiaowei down. Although he was a bit reluctant in his heart, that soft feeling made him somewhat nostalgic. An Xiaowei, who was put down, had a slightly red face, and her eyes dodged, not daring to look directly at Zhou Liming. “It’s safe for now; the Fierce Beasts are still concentrated on the coastline.”

After exiting this street, at the intersection, a temporary Frontline made of several police cars was formed. More than a dozen Armed Police were holding guns and shouting, maintaining the order of the fleeing crowd.

Zhou Liming was just wondering why he hadn’t seen any policemen. It turned out they should have withdrawn to this area to set up defenses and clear the fleeing crowd, maintaining order. Of course, some directly fled, but there would always be people risking their lives to stay and protect people’s safety, right?

“Everyone, don’t panic. The army will arrive in the city soon; the danger is only temporary.”

“Everyone, don’t rush. Pass through one by one. If it gets chaotic, no one will be able to escape.”

“Citizens driving cars, it’s best to get out of the car; the road ahead is already blocked…”

“…”

On an anti-riot police car, a Police Superintendent with a first-class superintendent rank on his shoulder stood on it, shouting through a megaphone. Except for a few Armed Police on guard, all the others were standing there trying hard to maintain people’s order. But the people, who were in a state of panic, only cared about squeezing forward, almost breaking up the Armed Police maintaining order.

This Police Superintendent was furious on the anti-riot police car. He wanted to curse several times, but he held back. The police force in the whole city was still sufficient, but when the crisis broke out, at least half of the police personnel, including some Armed Police, could not stand the pressure and joined the fleeing team early. These scum in the police force, they could not be called police at all.

But so what? The current situation was simply not something a small first-class Police Superintendent like him could control.

Zhou Liming took An Xiaowei and mixed in the crowd, slowly passing through the street. Zhou Liming still held immense respect for these people’s police who could stay at this moment. At least they were much better than the vast majority of government officials. “Heroes appear in times of crisis,” probably referring to people like them.

The first-class Police Superintendent stood on the anti-riot police car, worrying about the lack of manpower. He just happened to see two people wearing police uniforms in the crowd. Seeing that they didn’t even have a bar on their shoulders and had the faces of students, he guessed they were new police officers who had just joined the work. He was immediately delighted, picked up the megaphone, and shouted: “Stop, you two come out.”

Seeing this Police Superintendent’s eyes staring at himself and An Xiaowei, and even beckoning, Zhou Liming was immediately confused. Could it be that he knew that the two of them had escaped from the Public Security Bureau without permission?

Seeing the two of them looking silly, the Police Superintendent got angry and said loudly: “Are you still people’s police? To think you are learning from others to ignore the people and run away. Come here immediately and maintain order here. Damn it, if it were usual times, I would have removed you from your posts.”

Being shouted at by the Police Superintendent like this, Zhou Liming and An Xiaowei looked down at the police uniforms on their bodies at the same time, and were instantly dumbfounded!
