Chapter 3: What Did the Eyes See?

Red mist?

Chen Fengshi was stunned for a second, then subconsciously rubbed his eyes, focused his mind and looked again. Shen Ai’s body was indeed covered by a thin layer of red mist, from her feet to the top of her head. Moreover, above her head, there was red mist extending out, stretching all the way to a place out of sight behind the dorm building.

Shen Ai and Love Sage spoke face to face for a few words, then she accepted the gift Love Sage gave her. Immediately after, the two walked and chatted as if they were taking a stroll.

But what Chen Fengshi paid the most attention to at this moment was no longer their situation. He rubbed his eyes again and looked, but it was still the same. Then he looked around; there was nothing unusual. When he saw other people passing by, he did not see anyone like Shen Ai.

Chen Fengshi was a little scared. He was not sure if this was some strange eye disease, but judging from the phenomenon, it should not be. There was no reason why only Shen Ai would have a problem!

‘Are there really ghosts?’ Influenced by his environment, although Chen Fengshi usually did not talk about these things, his subconscious did not completely disbelieve them either. At this moment, facing an unexplainable strange situation, such a thought naturally popped into his mind.

Chen Fengshi followed from afar. Love Sage and Shen Ai indeed seemed to plan on taking a stroll, but there was a proper distance between the two of them.

Chen Fengshi saw the red mist on Shen Ai’s body suddenly and continuously transferring onto Love Sage’s body. Actually, this situation had existed since the two first met, but it was very little at that time. At this moment, the continuously transferring red mist had already surrounded Love Sage’s entire body.

Chen Fengshi saw this with his own eyes and felt an inexplicable fear towards that red mist. At this moment, how was that any red mist? When it touched Love Sage’s skin, it drilled right in; those that touched the tips of Love Sage’s hair moved quickly along the hair strands like bugs, disappearing endlessly into the black hair; and those that stuck to his clothes crawled to his skin from nearby, and then just drilled right in!

Chen Fengshi watched this process with a numb scalp. He truly did not know what this situation was! But, when ten minutes later, Love Sage’s body, just like Shen Ai’s, was covered by red mist, and above his head there was still endless red mist extending out, heading in the direction of the red mist path extending from Shen Ai’s head.

And during this process, Love Sage very strangely walked quietly without speaking, and Shen Ai did not either.

After a short while, he did not know if the extending red mist threads had reached their destination, but Shen Ai and Love Sage suddenly separated. There was no warning, and no conversation, as they went their separate ways in different directions.

Chen Fengshi was no longer worried about Shen Ai accepting Love Sage’s courtship, but he felt that something incredible had happened to Shen Ai, and also to himself!

Shen Ai suddenly asking to meet him last time, his coma, Skinny and the others’ narration, and the scene of Love Sage meeting and weirdly parting with Shen Ai just now—connecting all these together, the answer could only be interpreted as supernatural!

Love Sage really just left like that, without even a greeting or a goodbye gesture between him and Shen Ai. What was even weirder was that Shen Ai had been keeping a normal expression and demeanor, and when Love Sage left, his face still wore his usual gentle smile.

Chen Fengshi’s feeling at this moment was being awed by the unknown! He had long looked down at his own body, and there was no such red mist present, which made him slightly relieved. But, what was Shen Ai’s situation? What exactly was that red mist? And what was Love Sage’s situation?

These doubts, along with his concern for Shen Ai, prompted Chen Fengshi to involuntarily continue following Shen Ai. Not long after walking, Shen Ai met with another person, and that person was obviously waiting for her early on. Chen Fengshi did not know this person, who looked very nervous and stiff, his flustered hands seeming to not know where to put them.

‘Could it be that Shen Ai also took the initiative to invite him?’ This guy’s performance made it hard for Chen Fengshi to believe he was someone with the courage to take the initiative to invite Shen Ai out alone. Connecting this with himself and Love Sage, it was easy to draw such a conclusion.

The following development was as if to confirm Chen Fengshi’s guess. Shen Ai and that man took a walk, walking and talking just like a moment ago. During this process, the red mist on her body crawled onto that man just like before. The rhythm and process were simply like a replay of Love Sage’s situation. When the extending red mist beam on top of that man’s head extended far away, the two once again parted ways without even saying hello.

And this was not the end. Because Shen Ai soon met another man…

Until it was almost lights-out time for the dorm building at night, Shen Ai had met a total of six people. Without exception, these people were all finally possessed by the red mist. At this moment, in Chen Fengshi’s view, rather than calling it a supernatural ghost possession or something, he felt it was more like some kind of microorganism, like a bacterial infection.

Chen Fengshi watched Shen Ai walk into the dorm building. Regarding her abnormalities, he could list a whole bunch. Such as her daily routine, such as the unbelievable behavior, such as… And all of these in turn illustrated: the red mist he saw with his own eyes was perhaps the culprit.

Then, what was next?

Chen Fengshi looked behind the dorm building, to somewhere in the mountains where many red mist threads extended towards.

More than a hundred beams composed of red mist extended out from the boys’ and girls’ dorm buildings, clearly all converging to the same place.

Chen Fengshi was extremely hungry, so he went back to the noodle shop from earlier. The boss saw him come again and was so scared that he trembled in his heart. He completely could not figure out what illness this kid had to suddenly stuff himself to death, but please, for the love of God, do not eat yourself to death here…

If it were not for the fact that there were still many people at this time, the boss would have really wanted to just say they were closing.

Chen Fengshi had something on his mind and was very hungry, so he just let himself eat. The empty bowls on the table piled up more and more. With every extra bowl stacked, the noodle shop boss could not help but tremble in his heart once more.

Having witnessed those strange things about Shen Ai in just a short while at night, Chen Fengshi was no longer worried about what was going on with his own appetite. He was determined to keep eating, to see exactly how much he could eat, and what kind of result it would lead to!

He ate very fast. Normally he would always drink the soup, but gradually he could not care less, and even if it was hot, he just ate the noodles. Bowl after bowl went down, and the feeling of hunger in his stomach slowly disappeared. Finally, when he ate until he felt a little full, he felt his body filled with power, far surpassing his normal state, and the muscles on his body seemed to have grown a size bigger.

Chen Fengshi ate eighteen bowls in one breath, so much that the noodle shop boss’s expression went numb, already viewing him as a monster.

“Check, please.”

“One hundred and eighty.” The noodle shop boss was expressionless. The stimulation of bowl after bowl eventually turned into numbness. He could not explain how a person could eat so much, because it was obvious that Chen Fengshi’s stomach could not possibly hold it; he could even less explain why Chen Fengshi’s belly basically did not look bloated.

Actually, the price did not need to be said; Chen Fengshi could calculate it himself. He counted, and it really was eighteen bowls. When he came down to eat earlier, he absolutely did not think he would eat this much. He brought enough money, but eating like this, it was impossible for it not to hurt his wallet. If he had known, he would have walked further to eat at those places specifically doing midnight snacks, where for fifteen bucks you could add as much noodles as you wanted.

But in the end, it was just a thought. If he really had to do something so unkind, he truly could not do it. For those people staying up late doing business by the roadside, was it easy to make a living?

Chen Fengshi paid the money, secretly hurting for his wallet. If he ate like this, his family simply could not afford it.

“Damn it!” Walking on the road, Chen Fengshi grew more and more irritated the more he thought about it. It all came so inexplicably. A hundred and eighty for a meal at a noodle shop, and he didn’t even understand why it was like this! He vented his frustration by kicking the yellow-and-black crash barrier post—the post bent upon the impact…

It bent?

Chen Fengshi’s anger was scared away. He steadied his mind and saw that the crash barrier post had indeed bent into a sixty-degree angle.

Chen Fengshi squatted there and observed for a while. To make him believe such a thing, it was better to say that this thing was originally bent, and he just had not noticed it earlier.

However, the cement at the base of the crash barrier post had some cracks, and there was no dirt inside, which clearly meant it had cracked only a short time ago.

Chen Fengshi took a deep breath, looked left and right to see no one, and then hugged the bent crash barrier post and pulled hard!

This attempt was very absurd. Although Chen Fengshi had practiced martial arts for a long time, it was only for keeping fit, and what he practiced were martial arts routines. Although he had gained quite some insight from combining it with actual combat during his youth, it still remained at the level of street fights. His strength, agility, and endurance were definitely stronger than an average person, but to kick and bend a crash barrier post with one foot, unless it was made of ultra-thin gold.

But, when Chen Fengshi exerted force, at the same time the abnormally abundant power in his body erupted, he felt all the muscles in his body suddenly become incredibly tough. That feeling was as if his whole body had turned into some superalloy metal. Then, the bent crash barrier post was instantly pulled.

Chen Fengshi stood there dumbfounded. Science had a rough estimate of the limits of human strength, and there was no way it could reach this level.

However, the crash barrier post before his eyes, having suffered innocent damage twice, with the middle section crooked and slanted like a crying, twisted face, was the most real proof.

‘Could it be that all those divine skill manuals from the past that cost a dime or two suddenly took effect, and I was originally a peerless master destined to soar to the sky once my Ren and Du meridians were opened?’ Chen Fengshi thought of the plot in Master Xing’s movies, using self-mockery to calm the shock in his heart.

Although this was a joke, he had really read those kinds of divine skill manuals when he was a kid, and precisely because he had experienced it, he remembered such plots particularly deeply.

However, Chen Fengshi had practiced martial arts year-round. Although he had heard of the legendary inner strength, and his master had also talked about the legends of his grandmaster, his master had never said he knew it himself.

So, whatever about suddenly opening the Ren and Du meridians, that was really just a joke.

Chen Fengshi stood in front of the crash barrier post for a while. The scientific knowledge loaded in his mind had no way to explain the current situation, so he simply stopped thinking about it for now.

‘With such great strength, eating so much wasn’t for nothing… Could my jumping power let me jump straight to the top floor of the girls’ dorm?’ Chen Fengshi could not help but look forward to the magical power his body suddenly possessed. Recalling the experience of hugging the crash barrier post and exerting force just now, as he prepared to jump, he began to gather his strength.

Along with the start of gathering strength, he felt the muscles in his body change instantly. He felt his two legs bent, and the stored-up power ready to be released was like tough rubber being bent, which would erupt once released.

So Chen Fengshi calmly considered for a second. Not only did he not dare to continue increasing his force, but he also intentionally reduced it, because he had to consider the possibility of crashing into the wall.
