Chapter 21: Slaughter

"Send out the scouts. I want the surrounding area thoroughly mapped out.

"Night Tiger, Ye Lang, the two of you will each lead a cohort of a thousand men to sweep out all the Goblins in this vicinity."

Having won a crushing victory, Night Battle was somewhat disdainful of the Goblins' combat strength. However, he acted with extreme caution. Instead of immediately marching the main army out, he constructed camp Defenses on the spot.

Su Xingyu had not accompanied them for this battle, delegating full authority to Night Battle instead. As the Night Tribe's strongest Commander right now, barring Su Xingyu, Night Battle's capabilities were beyond doubt. Leading an army of tens of thousands was a simple task for him.

The Teleportation Gate had already closed. If they wanted to leave, their only option would be to pray to the Divine Spirit. However, before wiping out the enemies here, Night Battle would never pray to the Divine Spirit for a retreat, because that would mean defeat.

The Monarch was merciful; He permitted failure. Yet, as a Believer, Night Battle absolutely refused to allow himself to fail.

While Night Battle was constructing the camp, the two Centurions also encountered enemies out in the field.

"Tiger, are those Goblins too? Why do they feel a bit different from the ones we just ran into?" Gazing at the Goblins in the distance, Ye Lang noticed their frames were visibly more massive and their skin tone much darker. He felt somewhat perplexed.

"You're asking me? If even you don't know, how could I possibly know?" Night Tiger rolled his eyes. He shot his younger brother a glance that seemed to ask if he had lost his mind to be coming to him with questions.

Ye Lang and Night Tiger were biological brothers, each leading a cavalry cohort of a thousand men. Both were capable right-hand men to Night Battle.

The older brother, Night Tiger, possessed a robust build nearly two meters tall and was one of the few Tier Four Extraordinary Warriors in the Night Tribe. The younger brother, Ye Lang, was on the leaner side and was a Tier Three Extraordinary Warrior.

The two brothers had vastly different personalities. The older brother was honest and straightforward, while the younger brother was much sharper. Therefore, even though both were Centurions and Night Tiger boasted greater strength, Ye Lang was the one who usually made the decisions.

"It doesn't look like there are that many of them. How about we charge over and test the waters? The General's orders were for us to sweep them all out anyway." Night Tiger was incredibly belligerent. Aside from eating and sleeping, he spent the vast majority of his time on Cultivation and fighting. Seeing enemies now, he could hardly contain himself, itching for a fight.

"That works. You charge in and test the waters, and I'll hold the line out here for you." After thinking it over, Ye Lang nodded in agreement with Night Tiger's proposal. He had just made a rough observation: the opposing side had only around five thousand troops, and their Weapons and equipment were abysmally backward. Even if they had sturdier builds, they posed no real threat to their forces.

Besides, they were cavalry. If they couldn't win, they could always flee. As long as they didn't charge too deep, it was virtually impossible for them to get bogged down.

However, before the charge, Ye Lang still cautioned him, "Restrain yourself a bit. Don't push in too deep."

"Oh." Hearing this, Night Tiger immediately looked displeased. But under his younger brother's stern gaze, he reluctantly nodded. "I know. I'll just take a stroll around the outer edges."

With that said, he spurred his horse and charged out, bellowing as he rode, "Brothers, charge with me! Slaughter these green-skinned monsters!"

"Kill!"

"Charge!"

Influenced by Night Battle, the majority of the Warriors under his command also loved to spearhead charges, relying on individual martial prowess to break enemy formations.

On the other side, the Goblins had long since spotted these two cavalry units. However, unlike the previous Goblins, they did not charge straight over. Instead, they slowly massed together, forming up in a Defense formation.

"GAH!" Seeing the cavalry bearing down on them, the Goblins in the front row unleashed panicked roars.

The distance between the two sides was not far. For cavalry, at least, as long as the enemy was within sight, it wasn't considered far. In the blink of an eye, the two forces were about to collide.

Right before the clash, Night Tiger and the Warriors behind him unhooked the Crossbows slung over their saddles and slightly raised their right hands.

"Fire!"

At Night Tiger's command, the arrows were loosed with a series of WHOOSHING sounds. Although there weren't many, the resulting momentum was quite intimidating.

The Goblins, having never seen such Weapons, had absolutely no Defenses prepared. By the time the arrows closed in, dodging was an utter impossibility. The frontmost Goblins fell in rows like harvested grain. The Goblin Warriors behind them, their faces splattered with the blood of their comrades, shrieked in terror, completely clueless as to what had just happened.

Simultaneously, the cavalry stowed their Crossbows, drew their Long Sabers, and plunged into the goblin horde. The muscular warhorses sent the obstructing Goblins flying before trampling them to death under heavy hooves in an instant.

SWISH!

Riding the momentum of their charge, the Warriors of the Night Tribe swung their Long Sabers, instantly executing the enemies before them.

These Goblins were significantly taller and far more robust than the previous batch, yet it was of no use. To the Warriors of the Night Tribe, a combat strength of one or two made no difference. They all fell to a single slash of the blade.

The original plan had been to engage briefly to test the enemy's strength before discussing a strategy for their eradication. However, once the true fighting began, Night Tiger tossed his younger brother's warning entirely to the wind. Leading his personal guards, he carved a bloody path straight ahead. Seeing their General acting so valiantly, the Warriors behind him naturally refused to be outdone and trailed closely in his wake.

"Fuck, I knew this would happen." Seeing this, Ye Lang's face instantly darkened. Spurring his mount, he also charged out. "Follow me! Slaughter every last one of these green-skinned monsters!"

The Warriors behind him roared into the sky before galloping after him. Watching their brothers having so much fun slaughtering the enemy, they had long since grown impatient. If their General hadn't held them back, they would have charged out ages ago.

"Hahaha! Die for me!"

"Kill! Kill! Kill!"

As the Long Sabers swung down, enemies were either killed or severely maimed. The Warriors of the Night Tribe grew increasingly exhilarated, continuously reaping Goblin Lives.

They had never fought such an easy battle.

A considerable portion of these two cavalry units consisted of former Barbarian Warriors. Ever since being integrated into the Night Tribe, they had been harboring a bellyful of pent-up frustration. During subsequent training, their issues with organization and coordination meant they often fell slightly short compared to the native Night Tribe Warriors, which only exacerbated their misery. Now that they had encountered Goblins, it was the perfect opportunity to vent their inner rage.

This batch of Goblins numbered close to five thousand, but it was futile. Oftentimes, cavalry held a massive advantage over infantry, easily capable of dealing with several times their number. What was more, the Goblins before them were far too weak, fighting without any semblance of strategy. Calling them soldiers was quite a compliment.

Leading the cavalry on a relentless charge, Night Tiger had killed an unknown number of Goblins. His body was already dyed green with blood.

"ROAR!"

A massive Goblin standing three meters tall, wielding a Wolf Fang Club, bellowed and charged at Night Tiger. The giant Goblin took massive strides, completely disregarding its comrades in its path. By the time it reached Night Tiger, it had killed at least ten of its own kind.

"Perfect timing."

Such an enormous frame was impossible to hide, even on a chaotic battlefield. Night Tiger had naturally noticed it long ago, but he had wanted to pierce through the Goblin defensive line first, which was why he hadn't immediately gone for the kill. However, since the opponent had delivered itself to his doorstep, Night Tiger wouldn't hold back.

Spurring his horse forward, Night Tiger's internal vitality surged forth. Blood-red Fighting Qi coated his Long Saber in a thin, crimson layer.

The giant Goblin raised its Wolf Fang Club high and swung down ferociously, seeking to smash Night Tiger and his mount flat. Unexpectedly, Night Tiger suddenly accelerated. Right before the strike landed, he slashed his blade skyward.

CLANG!

The terrifying Power nearly sent the Wolf Fang Club flying out of the Goblin's hands. Its body tipped backward as it stumbled in retreat for several steps.

Refusing to give up his momentum, Night Tiger leaped into the air, wielding his saber with both hands to deliver a mighty cleave.

"Die!"

The Goblin hastily raised its Wolf Fang Club in an attempt to block the blow. With a SWISH, the blood-red Long Saber cleanly severed the club.

SQUELCH!

The Long Saber sliced down from above, cleaving the giant Goblin completely in half.
