"What is going on? You should have been here days ago."

A yacht sat out at sea with light rain pouring around it, one would wonder why a boat would choose to be out at sea in such weather, but that boat had not returned to shore in weeks and Reuben completely unbothered by the weather outside was in another chore of a phone call.

"I already messaged you ,telling you that all flights were cancelled here, due to the volcano eruption." Reuben replied ,rather uninterested with the expected nagging from Micheal on the other side of the phone.

"Very well, I will look into it, but the sooner you get back the -"

"The better it is for my reputation with the All father...I know dad" Reuben cut off Micheal and ran a hand through his hair in frustration.

"I will get back as soon as I can, boarding the next available flight" he added as he walked over to stare out the window of his cabin on the yacht, he had come here for his vacation but had spent most of his time stuck on this boat or handling his father's business.

"Since you are going to be there for a little more while, we have one more job for you to take care of." Micheal said sternly.

"Send the information needed I will take care of it." Micheal replied and hung up, it was business as usual when talking with his dad, neither asked how the other was doing and would simply focus on work and nothing else.

Reuben didn't mind this dynamic ,the last time he tried valuing a relationship with his father it didn't end well for him. He rolled up his sleeve and just under his elbow a large scar that resembled a deep burn could be seen, he studied the scar, and stared cynically at the rainshower outside for a few seconds before going back to observe all the trinkets and jewelry on his hands and face, and the flashy clothes he wore, he could endown himself in all the jewels he wanted but the scar was there to remind him of something that would always remain ugly .

-ping ,ping- Rei's phone rang out notifications constantly, the phone had been making that noise for the past eleven minutes and she just stared at it as it lay on the table ,not quite sure what to do with this thing.

* I'm not quite sure what's going on, but this woman has brought me to her house after we left the huge building, it seems I was sick* Rei ponders , trying to piece together what is actually happening.

* Maybe she really is my mother? Then why did she say she was my aunt ? And why does this thing keep making that noise ?* She thought , glancing at the phone which made yet another ping.

" Dear?!! Won't you answer your phone?" Jana asked as she walked into the living room where Rei was resting on the couch ,with a tray of cookies in one hand.

"Oh ..this?" Rei mumbled and reached for the phone as Jana placed down the cookies on the table and sat next to Rei.

"Now you will be staying here with me until you fully recover and feel completely fine, understood?" Jana said ,leaning over to adjust the blanket that covered Rei's legs.

Rei simply nodded in agreement and finally figured out how to put the phone on after feeling it up for a few seconds and stumbling on the button to turn it on, the screen was blocked with notifications from Chara who had been texting continuously.

-where are you?-

-Are you alright?-

- Arloh wrote to me and told me what happened ..-

Rei stared at the messages, not quite sure what to do about them, she tapped the screen a few times which took her to the messaging app ,now she just had to figure out how to respond.

"Umm ,mother?" She asked ,looking at Jana.

"Yes dear?"

"You are my mom not my aunt right?"

Jana laughed at the question,finding it absurd that Rei would ask. "What do you mean dear , you know why I said that earlier , we can't let people from your school know that you are Remi...have a cookie dear." She said , pointing to the tray.

"So my name is not..Rei?" Rei asked scratching her head , completely confused.

"You seem out of sorts , stop messing around and get some rest, do you need anything? I have to go take a call" Jana said ,getting up from her seat as she couldn't make sense of Rei's questions so she just took them as a joke of sorts.

"Well... Can you help me with this" Rei said showing Jana the phone screen, she needed help replying texts.

"What? You forgot how to respond to messages?" Jana asked, raising both brows at Rei.

"Silly kid..here I'll remind you." She decided it was best to play along, it wasn't out of pocket for Remi to sometimes do the most childish jokes or attempts at pranks, one would wonder where he got that from.

After a minute or two of reminding her child how to use a messenger, and keyboard,she headed to the patio to make a call, leaving Rei to herself.

Rei typed as slowly as a 'tortoise running a marathon' , trying to respond to Chara's messages.

'Hello f r I en d c ha ra I am fine'

She typed a short response,at least she had let who she figured was Chara messaging from the other side know that she was okay.

Almost immediately, the phone pinged again, it was Chara.

-whats this ,old man? Why are you typing like that?-

Chara asked in her text, naturally confused by the odd manner Rei had spaced out the words and letters.

Rei texted back, taking a good couple minutes to type out the rather short reply.

-what?!!!!!-

Chara texted back, simply confused.

"Aish...what is this machine and why is friend Chara making it difficult, I should not respond, I will explain myself when we meet again face to face" Rei said to herself, placing the phone down on the table and moving to the other corner of the couch to get as far away from it as she could.

"Oh cookie" she said with some excitement and took a cookie , she took a bite and grimaced ,she could quickly tell that baking was probably not her mother's strong suit.

"Urgghh Remi..what is he doing this time, is this a prank?" Chara grumbled as she stared at her screen waiting for a response.

"Ahh whatever, at least he is fine now, but what's with the weird spelling?.... Too tired to type maybe?" She shrugged and leaned over to tie her laces .

She placed her phone down on the empty space of the park bench she was seated, it was a cool refreshing night , it had snowed lightly earlier and Chara decided to go for a nightly walk in the snow before it disappeared entirely the next morning.

Winters here were never intense , sometimes it barely snowed and other odd days the entire city could be buried in snow, but most days of the winter usually weren't far off from a regular maybe slightly colder autumn day.

so whenever you did get snow you had to make sure you went out and enjoyed it if you were the kind who liked the winter weather.

She got up and put her phone in the pocket of her jacket and started walking, she wasn't sure where she was going, but she was bored, maybe a light stroll around the park ? Or just walk as far straight as you could then turn back before it got late. She wasn't sure so she just started walking anyways.

She barely walked a couple metres before she bumped into someone who had their head buried in their phone screen, neither was paying good attention to their surroundings and now they were both on the floor in the middle of the park.

"Ughh can't you watch where you're going ?" The lady Chara bumped into got up complaining.

"Oh sorry I wasn't really paying atten-" Chara cut her apology immediately she got up and locked eyes with who it was.

"Bel? What the hell are you doing all the way out here?" She asked darting to her feet and dusting off her jacket.

"Oh my goodness, of course I run into you of all people." Bel complained, rolling her eyes.

"No need to get all rabid on me , I only came to this slobby side of town to pick up some items, I'm not surprised you still live around here." Bel said insultingly as she eyed Chara up and down.

"What's wrong with this part of town?" Chara asked raising a brow.

"Well apart from being where you can find the.....less fortunate" Bel said trailing and eyeing Chara with an irritated look ".... I have nothing against them by the way ,but everything that's wrong with this part of town is that there's always a chance of finding you in it." She added , crossing her arms and raising her brows condensendingly At Chara.

"What's your problem anyways? we already stopped talking to you, why do you always go out of your way to start something." Chara said angrily and shoved Bel's shoulder .

Bel staggered backwards from the push and suddenly dropped her head down, making sniffling noises as though she was sobbing.

"Are...are you crying right now?" Chara asked, squinting and trying to study Bel's face properly.

"Start something?!!! You think I want to run into your dumbface at a park?" Bel shouted , shoving Chara back .

"I already know you stopped talking to me!! I know you don't want to see me!! and maybe if I am starting something ,...th- then, why did you stop talking to me in the first place !!!" She shouted and before Chara could say anything else, Bel ran off in tears.

Chara just stood there with a sad, almost griefing look on her face, shocked but not confused.

To anyone else their dialogue would make no sense, why was Bel crying? why were they at each other's necks like that? But Chara knew damn well what was going on and no matter how dramatic or annoying Bel got, she had sworn to not want anything to do with her...Not anymore.

-sigh- "I almost felt bad for her dumbface, she'll be fine , her hundreds of friends are probably waiting for her somewhere to babysit her after she goes crying to them anyways. " Chara mumbled and kicked at a pebble on the ground ,before pulling out a piece of bubblegum from one her jacket's many pockets and threw it in her mouth, chewing rather aggressively as she continued her walk on the park's cold path...

The next morning arrived almost like a blink and Rei woke up in the room where the woman who should be her mother told her was hers.

The bed was rather comfy so she slept well, but even if she wasn't sure or didn't quite remember, she just had the feeling that this room wasn't one she would pick , the teal blue colors on some parts of the walls and navy blue contrasts on the other side , were not her colour.

"Hmm I thought my room would be more... lavender...or orange." she commented as she sat up on bed studying the room.

She got up and looked around some more, the mostly empty and slightly dusty shelves suggested she may not have been in this room for some time.

* Do I not live in this house?* She wondered as she explored the room some more.

The larva lamps and old gaming consoles were rucked away in the monochrome patterned wardrobe and a huge stuffed toy shaped like a 'yellow electric Rat' sat in one of the corners of the four-sided room, covered in a plastic bag.

Rei was immediately fascinated by that and went over to inspect it properly, she dusted off the plastic covering and started trying to gently unwrap it.

Suddenly the door slowly creaked open after a subtle knock.

"Remi dear...are you awake?" Jana's head pokes out from behind the door, peeking into the room.

Rei jumped up a bit startled , but didn't drop the stuffed toy she was trying to open.

"Oh you are awake...good morning. You didn't change back after sleeping?" Jana asked, furrowing her brows and studying Rei as she used the towel which rested on her neck to wipe dry her hair with one hand and open the door wider with her other hand and walked into the room.

"Change back?" Rei squinted , rather confused.

"I'll look into this later, anyways I made breakfast,you should come eat something immediately" Jana said and turned to leave the room , she stopped in her tracks for a bit and turned around.

"How are you feeling now?" She asked with one hand on the door knob.

"Ummm I feel good" Rei answered with uncertainty.

"That's good, but I don't want to see you going anywhere today, or tomorrow you're staying home with me until I'm sure you feel better" Jana said, running a hand through her wet hair.

Rei stared quietly as Jana left the room , she wasn't quite sure how to react.

* It feels nice to have a mother, I don't remember anything from the past,but why do I feel like this is something I've never experienced before?*

She quickly shook of being lost in thought and decided to just enjoy whatever she was experiencing now.

"Wait for me mom!" She exclaimed, chucked the stuffed toy onto the bed and bolted out the room to follow Jana.

"Oh dear, you're suddenly energetic, don't run..." Jana warned as she got hounded by Rei who immediately locked arms together once she got close.

"You've been really clingy as of late... I'm not going to die or anything " Jana commented and laughed.

"I've been clingy?" Rei asked,resting her head on Jana's shoulder .."what is clingy?"

"What a silly question, come now let's have breakfast " Jana dismissed with a chuckle and kept walking as Rei stayed glued to her arm like a handbag.

Although her mother joked about it, she really wasn't sure what clingy meant exactly .
