Chapter 402: Day Seven of Being Thrown Into a Mary Sue Novel
The weather was gorgeous that weekend, the sky a clear, almost see-through azure blue, with a few wispy clouds drifting by, and the sunlight warm without being harsh.
Lu Lu woke up early in the morning, tossing and turning for a while before he finally couldn't take it anymore and jumped up, rushing into the bathroom to get himself looking sharp and full of energy.
He grabbed a crisp light blue shirt, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, showing off the lean lines of his forearms, with fitted dark pants that showed off his broad shoulders, narrow waist, and long legs.
He'd also carefully styled his hair in the mirror, clean and tidy, though a few stubborn strands still fell across his forehead. Add in his bright eyes, full of anticipation, and the vibrant energy radiating off him, and he looked handsome, radiating a sunny, boyish charm.
He drove to An Yi's place a whole hour early, parked, didn't rush him—just leaned against the car door, his gaze drifting toward the entrance to An Yi's place every now and then.
When that familiar figure finally appeared, Lu Lu felt his whole heart go soft, like it was soaking in warm water, and the sparkle in his eyes shot up a few notches.
An Yi was dressed super casually today—simple and clean—which only made him look taller and more put-together, with a fresh, crisp vibe.
He walked over, and in the sunlight, his face was so good-looking it almost didn't seem real.
"Been waiting long?" An Yi asked with a soft smile as he walked up, his voice warm.
"No! Just got here!" Lu Lu immediately straightened up and denied it, the motion a little too big, making him look all fired up.
He hurried around the front of the car, opened the passenger door for An Yi, and even held his hand over the top of the doorframe, worried An Yi might hit his head: "Careful."
"Thanks." An Yi glanced at him, accepted the gesture, and slid into the car.
Lu Lu walked back to the driver's side, got in, and while buckling up, couldn't help sneaking a peek at An Yi in the rearview mirror.
An Yi was turned slightly, looking out the window. The morning light traced his profile—from his forehead to his straight nose to his perfectly curved jaw—every feature ridiculously refined.
Lu Lu's heart started racing out of control again. He took a deep breath, like he was trying to calm something restless inside him, then started the car.
He wondered what other people would think if they saw this.
Anyway, he couldn't handle it!
So... ugh! So freaking good-looking!
On the way to the stables, Lu Lu worked hard to keep the conversation going, jumping from the weather to new movies to campus gossip, barely stopping to breathe.
An Yi listened to him ramble and couldn't help letting out a soft laugh.
Hearing that soft, clear laugh, Lu Lu felt like he could barely hold onto the steering wheel, the little deer in his chest bouncing around and making him dizzy.
An Yi looked at him: "Want me to drive?"
Lu Lu: "...I've got it! Don't worry, I'm steady!"
His gaze was determined, like he was vowing to drive this trip perfectly.
An Yi: "..."
The newly opened stables were out in the western suburbs, sprawling across a huge area with beautiful scenery.
In the distance were rolling green hills, and up close, neatly trimmed lawns and sandy tracks that made you want to run on them.
When An Yi and the others arrived, a few familiar friends were already sitting in the shaded rest area, sipping drinks and chatting on rattan chairs.
When they saw Lu Lu and An Yi walking over together, everyone's eyes turned to them at once, and smiles spread across their faces.
"Oh, Lu Lu, you actually got Young Master An to come? Nice!" A young man with stylish chestnut-colored short hair was the first to tease with a grin. He was the son of the Tang family, Tang Haoxuan.
"Right? It's rare to see An Yi come to something this rowdy." Another guy with glasses, who looked more bookish, chimed in with a laugh.
Lu Lu couldn't help puffing out his chest, chin raised a little, looking proud—he was the one who'd gotten An Yi to come!
He instinctively glanced at An Yi next to him, his tone softening without him even realizing it: "An Yi's free today, right?"
An Yi looked at him, clearly happy but trying to hide it, found it funny, and nodded, his eyes curving into a smile at the group: "Yeah, the weather's nice, so I thought I'd get out and do something."
The group came over to say hi, making small talk with An Yi and Lu Lu.
These people were all friends of the original body's owner, or at least acquaintances, so the conversation flowed easily.
It was just... Tang Haoxuan and the others exchanged a knowing look with each other.
Wasn't Lu Lu being a little too attentive to An Yi?
That look, that tone—it was like a completely different person from the laid-back guy they usually hung out with.
And An Yi himself... also seemed subtly different from the rich young master they remembered.
They couldn't quite put their finger on what had changed. His features were the same, but his vibe seemed more... more captivating.
He was just wearing simple casual clothes, standing there normally, greeting them normally, with a normal faint smile, yet you couldn't help but keep your eyes on him, feeling like every extra look was a treat. Even the overly bright sunlight and the scenery around him seemed to just be his backdrop.
Hiss... what were they thinking?
"Come on, let's go check out the horses. I heard a few nice thoroughbreds arrived today." Tang Haoxuan pulled back his scrutinizing gaze, shivered slightly, shook off the strange thoughts, and stood up to rally everyone.
The group headed toward the stables.
Inside the stables, several horses with glossy coats and elegant builds were resting or pacing in their stalls.
An Yi's gaze swept slowly across them, finally settling on one horse.
It was a beautiful thoroughbred with a deep chestnut coat that gleamed healthily even in the dim light of the stable. Its legs were powerful, its neck elegantly curved, and it stood there docilely, its large, warm eyes seemingly looking back at An Yi.
An Yi paused for a moment—its eyes reminded him so much of Lu Lu's.
He stepped closer, and the horse actually leaned forward, nuzzling affectionately with a soft snort, its damp nose gently brushing against An Yi's outstretched palm.
"Looks like it really likes you," the trainer beside them said with a smile. "This horse is called Lightning. He's actually got a bit of a proud temperament—rare to see him warm up to someone like this."
An Yi also liked the intelligence in the horse's eyes.
He reached out, skillfully stroking the horse's smooth neck, following the direction of the coat, his touch gentle yet soothing.
The horse squinted its eyes in contentment, even leaning its head more clingily against his shoulder.
Lu Lu, standing nearby, was a bit stunned.
He was holding the reins of the black stallion he'd chosen for himself, but his gaze was completely drawn to An Yi.
Sunlight slanted in through the high windows of the stable, and one beam happened to fall on An Yi's lowered brows and the hand stroking the horse. His fingers were long and fair, a striking contrast against the horse's dark coat, yet the motion was so harmonious.
