Chapter 419: Day 24 into the Mary Sue Story

Chapter 419: The Twenty-Fourth Day of Being Thrown into a Mary Sue Story

Under normal circumstances, when their young master was knocked unconscious right in front of them, they should have immediately jumped into action, grabbed the culprit, or even gone further.

But when they saw who the two people standing there were, their aggressive energy instantly died down, like someone had thrown cold water on it. They froze.

An Yi, the young master of the An family, and Lu Lu, the youngest son of the Lu family.

Neither of these families was one they could casually provoke, especially when it came to personal grudges between "young masters."

There were some things, some words, that only their young master Ye Ming could do or say.

If they, as bodyguards, recklessly laid a hand on An Yi and Lu Lu, the consequences would be way more than they could handle.

For a moment, the atmosphere was tense and awkward.

The bodyguards gathered around Ye Ming, not knowing whether to help him up or not, just watching An Yi and Lu Lu with wary, resentful, and conflicted looks.

An Yi shot a cold glance at Ye Ming, who was sprawled on the ground like a dead dog, then swept his gaze over the bodyguards, who were stuck in a bind: "Drag this piece of garbage out of here."

"Get lost."

The bodyguards' faces went red and pale by turns, feeling a humiliation and fury they'd never experienced before. When had they ever been treated like this while working for Ye Ming?

But now they didn't dare say a single word.

One of them gritted his teeth and finally gave his companions a look.

A few of them silently stepped forward, carefully lifted the unconscious Ye Ming, and half-carried, half-dragged him away, quickly vanishing into the shadows as if they'd never been there.

An Yi watched the direction they'd disappeared, his eyes completely devoid of emotion.

He took out his phone, his fingers quickly tapping on the screen, typing out a message detailing everything that had happened tonight—from Ye Ming showing up at his door with flowers, to his sickening confession and harassment, to him knocking Ye Ming out, and the Ye family bodyguards showing up and leaving.

Then, he sent the message to his parents and older brother.

Almost the instant the message went through, his phone started buzzing like crazy.

Dad: [This is outrageous! That bastard from the Ye family dares to mess with you?! Is Ye Ming sick of living?! Xiao Yi, don't be scared, Dad's calling the old man of the Ye family right now! They owe us an explanation!]

Mom: [Oh my god! Baby, are you hurt? Good call knocking that beast out! You scared Mom to death! That little punk Ye Ming! How dare he harass you! And say all that garbage! I'll kill that little brat!]

Big Brother: [Xiao Yi, you did the right thing. Next time you run into trash like that, don't hold back. Leave the rest to me, Mom, and Dad. The Ye family's been overstepping lately; it's time someone taught them a lesson.]

Watching the rapid stream of angry, concerned, and supportive replies, a faint smile flickered in An Yi's eyes.

He replied with a single message: [I'm fine, don't worry. I'll leave it to you guys.]

Putting his phone away, An Yi was about to head inside.

Just then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Lu Lu, who was still standing there, looking a bit lost, his expression nervous but burning with intense adoration as he stared at An Yi.

Lu Lu's face was slightly flushed, his eyes shining brightly, clearly reflecting An Yi's image, along with a trace of... unease and anticipation?

Right, he had... shouted a confession earlier, hadn't he?

An Yi stopped in his tracks.

He turned a little to look at Lu Lu.

He tilted his head. "Come in."

Then, without another look at Lu Lu's instantly widened eyes, he turned, opened the door, and walked inside.

The door didn't close right away, as if it were waiting.

Lu Lu's whole mind was spinning.

An Yi... was letting him inside?

He yelled, "C... coming!"

Lu Lu followed An Yi inside, his brain still in a dizzy, surreal state of extreme excitement and tension.

The warm yellow light of the entryway cast An Yi's quiet silhouette as he changed his shoes, making Lu Lu's heart pound like it was about to burst out of his chest.

He stood by the door, not knowing what to do with his hands or feet. The courage from his reckless confession downstairs had, at this moment, deflated like a popped balloon, leaving only helplessness and anxiety.

An Yi changed into his slippers, turned, and saw Lu Lu still standing stiffly on the entryway mat, staring straight at him with big, watery puppy-dog eyes.

He was about to say something when a phone started ringing in the room.

It was An Yi's phone, the screen flashing "Mom."

An Yi glanced at his phone, then at Lu Lu, who was still frozen solid. He gave Lu Lu a slight nod, handed him a pair of slippers, and said in his usual tone: "Sorry, I've gotta take this call first."

"Huh? Oh! Okay! Go ahead! Take it!" Lu Lu snapped out of it, took the slippers, and nodded quickly.

After changing his shoes, he shuffled over to the sofa with stiff, mechanical steps, not knowing whether to go forward or back, finally choosing to sit on the very edge of the sofa.

Sitting there like he was doing a horse stance?

An Yi found it a little amusing, glanced at him, said nothing more, picked up the phone, and walked toward the balcony as he swiped to answer: "Hey, Mom."

His mother's anxious, distressed voice came through on the other end. Even from where he sat, Lu Lu could faintly hear the concern in her voice.

He sat there, ears involuntarily perking up, heart still pounding unevenly, mind buzzing with a thousand thoughts exploding and fizzling out like fireworks.

He'd... actually said it! Right outside!

Shouting, "I like An Yi! I love him!"!

God! How could he... how could he be so reckless! No preparation at all! Not even a little romantic!

He should've picked a better moment, prepared flowers, gifts, or at least... at least not right after yelling at that bastard Ye Ming!

What would An Yi think? Would he think I'm impulsive and childish?

He let me in just now... was that just to be polite?

Is he taking this call now because he actually wants me to leave on my own? Ahhh, what do I do!

Lu Lu's inner monologue was playing out like a chaotic disaster movie, his expression shifting wildly—frowning in regret one moment, then grinning foolishly at the memory of An Yi inviting him in, then tensing up again, his fingers unconsciously picking at the leather on the sofa.

An Yi, meanwhile, was patiently calming his emotionally worked-up mother on the phone.

His mother was clearly furious about what Ye Ming had done, heartbroken over what her son had gone through, repeatedly asking if An Yi was hurt or scared, and firmly insisting that the family would get justice for him and make the Ye family pay.

An Yi's voice stayed calm throughout, carrying a reassuring tone: "Mom, I'm fine, really, I didn't get hurt at all. Mm, I know... Okay, don't worry... I won't do anything rash... Mm, you and Dad should get some rest too, don't let this ruin your health..."
