Chapter 424: Day 29 into the Mary Sue Story

Chapter 424: The Twenty-Ninth Day of Transmigrating into a Mary Sue Novel

An Yi turned his head to glance at him, offering no comment on the new nickname. He simply gave a light squeeze with his calves, and Lightning caught the hint and broke into a trot: "Mm."

Lu Lu's face immediately broke into a beaming smile!

An An didn't object! That meant it was tacitly accepted!

He urged his horse forward, radiating pure, bubbly happiness. His gaze was practically glued to An Yi, and the grin stretching across his face never once faded.

He was like an excited chatterbox, constantly finding new topics, tossing out an "An An" every other word—sounding totally natural and affectionate.

An Yi found him a bit much and spurred his horse ahead, shaking him off his tail.

Lu Lu: "..."

He clamped his mouth shut, looking all wronged.

When An Yi and Lu Lu finished two laps and slowed to a walk along the edge of the track to let the horses rest, a ruckus kicked up nearby.

Ou Yanglie walked in with five or six people, among them a young girl in a pink riding outfit, dressed to the nines but with a bratty look in her eyes—his sister, Ou Yangqian.

The rest of them looked like a bunch of rich brats too.

Ou Yanglie's face was as sour as ever, brows furrowed tightly, with a face that screamed "back off."

Ou Yangqian, meanwhile, was pouting and bitching to her brother about something.

They'd clearly come to blow off some steam riding too.

The stable manager spotted Ou Yanglie and immediately recognized the hot-tempered young master, groaning inside as he scurried over to suck up.

Ou Yanglie let his eyes drift lazily across the grounds, skimming over the few riders scattered on the track before locking onto one spot.

His pupils shrank, just barely.

Not far away, on the sunlit track, An Yi and Lu Lu were riding side by side at a leisurely pace.

The two were close together—An Yi had his head tilted like he was listening to Lu Lu, his profile almost unfairly gorgeous in the sunlight.

Lu Lu, meanwhile, was grinning ear to ear, yapping away, eyes practically on fire staring at An Yi's face. No one looking at them would ever think they were just friends.

Ou Yanglie felt something thump against his chest, and that same annoying, unexplainable irritation came flooding back.

His scowl deepened.

The stable manager followed his gaze out of the corner of his eye, spotted An Yi and Lu Lu, and felt his scalp prickle.

None of these people were pushovers, and with Young Master Ou looking like that... please, God, don't let them start a fight here!

Luckily, Ou Yanglie didn't blow his top. He frowned, looked away, muttered something to the manager, and headed toward the stables with his crew to pick out horses.

The stable manager let out a relieved breath.

Ou Yanglie did a few laps, then spotted An Yi and Lu Lu off their horses, chilling in the shade by the track. Lu Lu was handing An Yi a water bottle all attentive-like, the whole move natural and way too cozy.

An Yi took a drink, then Lu Lu sipped from the same bottle.

The fire in Ou Yanglie's chest—the one he couldn't name—burned hotter.

He dug his heels in hard. The black stallion whinnied and bolted straight at An Yi and Lu Lu, hooves tearing up grass and dirt.

Ou Yangqian was mid-complaint to a friend about how Huang Fuxiao had been ignoring her lately, all wrapped up in that commoner girl. She froze for a second, then her eyes lit up with mischief and she spurred her horse to follow.

She'd been stewing over Huang Fuxiao's attention to Leng Bingning, and she had it in for anyone tied to Leng Bingning—especially An Yi, who supposedly helped her out.

The stable manager's heart jumped into his throat. He scurried after them, scared shitless something was about to go down.

Ou Yanglie yanked his horse to a stop right in front of An Yi and Lu Lu, close enough that one more step would've run Lu Lu over.

He stared down at them in the shade, his expression all tangled up, brows knotted tight.

Lu Lu caught the bad vibes right away. On pure instinct, he edged half a step forward, subtly putting himself between An Yi and the threat. His grin dropped, replaced by a wary, guarded look as he stared Ou Yanglie down.

An Yi, though, just lifted his head coolly, glanced at Ou Yanglie on his horse, then at Ou Yangqian creeping up behind him with daggers in her eyes. His face was blank: "Get off!"

The air went thick.

Ou Yanglie stared at An Yi for a few seconds, then flicked a look at Lu Lu, who was all puffed up like a guard dog. He let out a low, unreadable snort. In the end, he kept his mouth shut and started turning his horse to leave.

He didn't even know why he'd charged over—to grill him? Or just to bust up that annoyingly perfect scene?

He hadn't expected An Yi to order him off his horse!

His eyebrows shot up, ready to blow.

But then he caught An Yi's gaze, and alarm bells went off in his head. He zipped it.

Ou Yangqian, though, wasn't about to drop it.

She trotted up, stopping in front of An Yi, chin up, giving him and Lu Lu a once-over like they were dirt.

She had to admit—up close, An Yi was stupidly good-looking. She'd never noticed before. No wonder even her snobby brother did a double take.

But that just pissed her off more. So what if he was hot? His taste sucked!

"Hey, An Yi." Ou Yangqian spoke, her voice sharp but dripping with bratty entitlement: "Let me ask you—you into Leng Bingning too? If so, keep her on a short leash and stop her from throwing herself at Brother Huangfu!"

The second those words left her mouth, Lu Lu's face flipped. He snapped back instantly, voice sharp and heated: "Bullshit! An An doesn't like her! Quit making stuff up!"

An Yi's brow creased a little too.

He looked at Ou Yangqian like she was some illogical, bizarre creature, a flicker of confusion in his eyes.

"'Too'?" he echoed, deadpan. "I don't like her. And..."

He paused, locking eyes with her. "Leng Bingning never once seduced Huang Fuxiao. Huang Fuxiao's the one causing problems all by himself."

His voice dripped with sarcasm: "If you've got a problem, go ask Huang Fuxiao yourself. It's not Leng Bingning's fault. What's she got to do with any of this?"

Ou Yangqian was left speechless, her pretty face burning red.

She hadn't expected An Yi to not only deny it but to flat-out defend Leng Bingning, even pinning the blame on her precious Brother Huangfu!

It was obviously all Leng Bingning's fault!

"You're lying! You've gotta like her! Why else would you stick up for her like that?!" Ou Yangqian was fuming and flustered, running her mouth without thinking: "That Leng Bingning's just a fake-pure fox! Who knows what games she's playing! You guys are all hypnotized by her! Aren't you too—"

"Shut up!" An Yi's voice went ice-cold.

"That's enough, Ou Yangqian!" A furious yell cut her off at the same time.
