Chapter 481: Day 9 into the Alien War Story

Chapter 481: Day 9 of Getting Dropped into an Alien War Novel

He raised his right hand, fingers spread wide, then slowly curled them shut.

The space within a ten-meter radius of the rift instantly froze solid.

The alien creature that had barely gotten half its body out froze mid-air, the rift itself stopped growing, and the black light went solid.

An Yi stepped forward, heading toward the frozen rift.

Then he kicked the alien creature right back through it.

He reached out and touched the edge of the rift with his fingertips.

The spatial barrier gave way under his hand like water. With a slight push, he stepped through the rift as easily as walking through a curtain.

Ten minutes after he left, a few hikers with backpacks passed by and instinctively steered clear of the area.

----------

The moment he crossed the rift, the world changed.

This was a world of dark red.

The sky was red, with no sun—just a dim crimson glow that soaked into everything.

The ground was covered in all sorts of weird plants and critters.

Surprisingly, the air didn't smell weird.

Right at the rift's exit, three creatures were standing.

They were about five feet tall, with long, skinny bodies like bamboo insects. Their skin was see-through grayish-white, so you could see the blood vessels and organs underneath.

Their heads were upside-down triangles, with no noses—just a puckered mouth and two compound eyes that covered half their faces.

They had four arms, and each arm had a ridiculous number of joints.

They sort of looked like humanoids.

These were the Riftborn.

Right then, the three Riftborn were gathered around a rift, getting ready to send more alien creatures through. Their arms slid quickly across a glowing array, keeping the spatial passage stable.

Then the alien creature flying back at them startled them.

Why'd it come back on its own?

The moment An Yi showed up, all three Riftborn froze.

Their compound eyes spun like crazy, clearly unable to figure out how anything could crawl backward through their one-way passage.

What shocked them even more was—this thing had no spatial energy fluctuation at all, like it had always belonged here.

And... judging by how it looked, wasn't this the ugly parasite larva of the place they were about to conquer?

How the hell did it get here?!

"Hey there." An Yi said with a warm smile. "Sorry to barge in. I'd like to borrow your abilities for a little research."

The leftmost Riftborn suddenly let out a bunch of sharp shrieks, yelling something garbled, its four arms jerking up.

They clearly didn't get him—didn't understand An Yi's politeness.

The alien creatures it had been controlling charged at An Yi.

An Yi was a bit annoyed: "How rude. I wasn't even done talking."

The alien creatures that got to him all turned into ice statues, then shattered into fine dust.

All three Riftborn backed off at the same time, and for the first time, something like fear showed in their compound eyes.

They started chattering fast, their shrieks urgent and all over the place.

Then they turned tail and ran.

An Yi gave them a once-over—those dozen or so joints were surprisingly nimble.

He didn't waste any more time.

He grabbed all three Riftborn in short order.

One tried to open a spatial passage to get away, but he caught it and took care of it right there.

He studied the other two—their spatial abilities worked differently from his.

They could grab parallel worlds out of thin air, which he couldn't do yet. And when it came to spatial manipulation, the Riftborn were way below him—the ones he'd restrained couldn't break out of his space.

Learn from each other's strengths, right? What a bunch of good guys, these Riftborn.

He sealed one into the Juxing Tulu for his collection, and locked the other down to study in detail later.

Over the next ten minutes or so, he zipped across the planet, hunting down and wiping out all the remaining Riftborn.

He searched the place again, made sure none had gotten away, and only then stopped.

When he was done, An Yi didn't leave right away.

He thought for a second—was he being a little too cruel?

He decided: absolutely not.

He looked up at this red world, feeling the energy ripples soaking through the air.

That was the source energy that gave alien creatures all their crazy superpowers.

"Since I'm already here," he said, smiling.

He left a spatial marker on this place.

The next second, he vanished from where he was standing.

----------

Deep in this dark red world, there was a massive lake.

Earlier, while zipping across the whole world, he'd also noticed—this place had oceans.

Nice place.

In the middle of the lake stood a lone black rock peak, and on top of it crouched a massive beast.

It looked like a dragon from Western mythology, but with no wings, and its whole body was covered in scales.

The creature was over fifty meters long, every scale gleaming like metal.

When An Yi appeared on the peak, the giant beast opened its eyes.

Water flowed inside them.

What a mutant creature—amazing eye structure.

The beast didn't roar or give any warning—it just opened its maw and blasted a three-meter-wide jet of water!

An Yi raised his hand, and a transparent barrier materialized in his palm.

The water jet slammed into the barrier, splitting apart like a waterfall hitting a reef, carving two pale blue arcs down the lone peak.

The rock under An Yi's feet started melting, but he hung in midair, his barrier rock-steady.

He glanced at the rock below—the water was toxic.

The beast was clearly enraged.

Intricate crimson patterns spread across its body.

The whole lake started boiling, and twelve water tornadoes shot up from its surface, closing in on An Yi from every direction!

This time, An Yi didn't try to block it head-on.

He vanished from the spot, then reappeared on the dragon's head and stomped down!

"BOOM—!!!"

A third of the peak caved in, the beast's skull slammed deep into the rock.

But its tail lashed up violently, the bone spike at the tip ripping through the air so fast it left afterimages.

An Yi grabbed the tail tip with one hand.

Using the momentum to flip, he made a blade with his other hand's fingers and lightly struck the gap between the dragon's neck scales.

"Shhk—"

A wound deep enough to see bone opened up, and scorching purple blood gushed out.

The beast let out a thunderous roar, its scales blazing with light as a freezing aura turned the surrounding rock to ice.

An Yi smiled—now this was his specialty.

The thrilling battle lasted a solid twenty minutes.

The area around them had been reduced to wasteland.

An Yi tested the beast's physical defense, energy resistance, reaction speed, and the limits of its natural abilities... Finally, when the dragon collapsed from exhaustion, he crouched down and pressed his palm to its skull.

He carefully studied its anatomy.

First, he tried a mystical healing spell—magic.

The beast's wounds closed at a visible rate, and even the shed scales grew back.

It worked.

The beast raised its head, confused, its eyes full of bewilderment—it had never met a creature that hurt it and then healed it.

And this creature was tiny.

"Thanks for helping me loosen up," An Yi said, patting its head. "I'll be back."

The beast didn't understand, and angrily shoved him with its head.
