"???"

"What's going on? Ah! What on earth is going on?!"

"I'm losing my mind. Xing Ruize, what the hell are you doing?!"

"Ahhhh! Don't you guys feel it? It's giving major gay vibes!"

"No way! We're all just damn buddies here! (Totally straight face.jpg)"

"Wait, didn't you see? The male lead is blushing! That earlobe! That lip bite!"

"Why the hell are you blushing?!"

"There's not a single beautiful woman around, and he's blushing over a guy! Author, are you actually gay?!"

"Manifesting~~ (That look.jpg)"

"So that's it! An Yi must be a woman disguised as a man! She's the female lead!"

"I've been saying that from the start! An Yi might even be a princess!"

"I can't even!"

"No, seriously, stop joking around. This is really kind of gay, isn't it? @Author! Come out! Explain yourself!"

"Author: I'm watching you all.jpg"

"Spread the word, the author has confirmed it!"

"Spread the word, the author personally admitted the male lead is gay!"

"Spread the word, the author caught the gay! (Repeat.jpg)"

"You guys are like broken records!"

"More like rumor mills!"

"An Yi's got Xing Ruize wrapped around his little finger. (Twisted around his finger.jpg)"

"She's a cross-dressing beauty, so everything she does is automatically right!"

"Really? You guys are saying it so confidently, I'm starting to believe it!"

"Otherwise? I really do think the male lead and An Yi will have a romantic storyline. I mean, the male lead... I don't even want to talk about him. Since there's a romantic line, An Yi must be a gorgeous woman! If she's not disguised as a man, what else could it be? Don't tell me the author's actually gonna write gay stuff in our male-oriented section?"

"No freaking way!"

"Right?! Hahahaha!"

"...Y'all stop laughing. I've got a bad feeling about this."

"..."

An Yi: "..."

He was a guy, and this was the first time anyone had questioned his gender!

But he was, in fact, gay!

If he... wouldn't these readers have another meltdown later? That'd be interesting.

An Yi looked outside. Xing Ruize stood beside him without moving. The two of them stood side by side, neither saying a word.

Outside the porthole, the dark red nebula grew closer. Three hours later, the Yuanxing arrived at the outpost.

The outpost was small—just a tiny space station with thick armor plating covering its surface, looking like some kind of metal beast hunched in the starry sky. The docking entrance was narrow, barely wide enough for a medium transport ship.

The Yuanxing eased into the berth. The hull shuddered slightly and settled to a stop.

An Yi got up and followed the team down the gangway, watching robots haul the supplies away.

After everything was unloaded, George sidled over to him and said in a low voice, "An Yi, we'll check the supplies first, then head to the rest area. You wanna come?"

An Yi nodded. "Yeah."

Xing Ruize stopped mid-motion. He turned, his gaze sweeping over the team.

"Jiang Biao," he said, "go to the cockpit and double-check the flight logs. Ma Zhiye, check the outpost's defensive systems. Cheng Hong, check the perimeter security. George..."

He paused, his eyes landing on George. "You and An Yi go check the supplies."

He'd originally planned to take An Yi himself.

But George had loudly volunteered to go with An Yi.

Xing Ruize: "..."

He shot George a frown but agreed anyway.

Why did George suddenly feel so annoying?

George had no clue what the captain was thinking. He grinned at An Yi. "Ready to head out?"

"Yeah," An Yi said. "Better to get it done early."

George thought for a second and nodded. "True—get it done early, rest early." He gestured forward. "This way!"

An Yi headed off with him.

Ma Zhiye walked past them, giving George a blank look.

George: "...What's your problem?"

Ma Zhiye didn't say anything, just looked away and kept walking.

Cheng Hong walked past from the other side, a slight smirk curling at the corner of his mouth.

He glanced at An Yi, then over at Xing Ruize.

Without saying a word, he just patted George on the shoulder.

George: "..."

George: "What the hell is wrong with you two?!"

Nobody was paying him any attention.

An Yi arched an eyebrow.

He tilted his head slightly, his peripheral vision catching Xing Ruize's gaze—that gaze settled on him, as if it had something to say.

But An Yi didn't turn around, acting like he hadn't seen it.

The supply warehouse was on the lowest level of the outpost.

It was a massive cargo bay with a high ceiling, light streaming down from above, casting big patches of shadow across the floor.

The supplies from the Yuanxing had already been moved in by automated loading robots, neatly stacked by number near the entrance.

An Yi walked into the warehouse, his gaze sweeping over the crates one by one.

In the original story, the chip was hidden in the lining of a specific crate.

Xing Ruize only discovered it a few days later, when he noticed the seal on that crate was damaged and opened it to check.

But An Yi didn't need to go through all that. He closed his eyes and focused.

The vibrations of space unfolded in his mind—the crates, the parts, the metal and plastic materials, each with a different frequency, like countless fine ripples weaving through the air.

Got it.

A damaged seal vibrates differently in space than an undamaged one.

An Yi opened his eyes and headed deeper into the warehouse.

George followed behind him. "An Yi, should we split up and check?"

"Sure," An Yi said. "I'll take this side." He gestured to the left side of the warehouse.

George nodded and headed to the right.

To George, An Yi was just quickly checking each crate one after another—approach, inspect, move on, fast.

George muttered, "Man, he's efficient!" Then he scratched his head and went to check his own.

An Yi stopped in front of a crate.

This crate looked no different from the others—same size, same color, same numbered label, sitting neatly in the corner with the rest.

But An Yi noticed its seal had a barely visible tear.

If you weren't paying close attention, you'd never notice it.

He crouched down, reaching out to lightly trace the tear in the air without actually touching it.

Then he raised his voice a little. "George!"

George heard him and poked his head out from behind a crate. "What's up?" He walked over quickly and crouched down next to An Yi.

"This seal's broken," An Yi said.

George blinked, then leaned in to take a look.

"Really broken?" he said, frowning slightly. "Could it have gotten scraped during transport?"

"Maybe," An Yi said. "But we'd better check it out."
