Chapter 527: The Thirteenth Day in the Interstellar World
For the next few days, George messaged An Yi almost every day.
He sent all kinds of stuff—what he ate today, if the mission was rough, Ma Zhiye blowing him off again, Jiang Biao cracking a lame joke, and Cheng Hong finally changing up his leaning spot today.
An Yi answered whenever he got a chance. His replies were short, but he answered every single one.
George was finally happy.
----------
The day An Yi landed on the capital planet, the second he stepped off the ship, his wristband buzzed.
It was a message from George: "An Yi, have you arrived? I did the math—you should be there by now!"
An Yi opened it, snapped a picture of the sky, and sent it back: "Yeah, just landed."
George shot back immediately: "Great! So that's what the capital planet looks like? Where'd you take that picture? Next time I'm on the capital planet, you've gotta show me around!"
An Yi smiled a little and typed back as he walked: "Sure."
George fired off another barrage of messages, full of random questions.
An Yi replied to each one. Cong Tianyue, who was walking ahead, glanced back and asked, "Who are you chatting with?"
An Yi put away his wristband: "Someone from the last mission."
Cong Tianyue got it, turned back with a quiet "Mm," and dropped it.
----------
As Xing Ruize happened to walk past George, he caught a glimpse of his wristband screen. There was a chat open with a familiar profile picture—An Yi.
Xing Ruize's steps slowed without him even realizing it.
George was... texting An Yi?
He looked down at his own wristband—no new messages—and frowned.
Xing Ruize didn't say a word, but he walked over and stopped next to George.
George kept typing away, muttering to Ma Zhiye: "Next time I'm on the capital planet, I'm definitely making him buy me a meal."
Xing Ruize stood there for a bit, watching. Then he spoke, his voice even, but Ma Zhiye somehow caught a sour note in it: "Does An Yi text you a lot?"
Ma Zhiye's mouth twitched, and he got up and walked off.
George answered without looking up: "Yeah, every day."
Xing Ruize went quiet for a second, then couldn't help himself: "What does he send?"
George finally looked up, gave him a once-over, and thought the captain seemed a little off today, but he answered honestly: "Just chatting, you know—what I ate, what I'm up to, anything fun..."
He ticked them off on his fingers: "Today I even asked him what the capital planet looks like, and he sent me a pic. It's actually pretty nice. For real, I've never been to the capital planet!"
As he said that, George turned the screen toward Xing Ruize: "Captain, check it out. You've been to the capital planet, haven't you?"
Xing Ruize glanced down. It was a sunset shot of the capital planet, golden light washing over the buildings. It really was beautiful.
That building with just its roof peeking out... that was clearly a spot you could see the second you got off the ship!
Did An Yi text George the second he landed?
A medic and a repair tech—what did they even have to talk about?
He looked away and kept pushing: "He replies to every single one?"
"Yeah!" George said. "Every single one!"
Xing Ruize went quiet for a beat.
George asked, puzzled: "Captain, why're you asking all this?"
Xing Ruize didn't answer. He dropped his gaze and opened his own wristband.
In the chat log, the last message was still the one he'd sent an hour ago.
An Yi's reply was just one word: "Okay."
Xing Ruize: "..."
Xing Ruize quietly put his wristband away.
George was still typing away, grinning. He added: "An Yi said he'll bring me some local goodies from the capital planet next time!"
Xing Ruize turned and walked off. He didn't want to hear any more of this. After two steps, he stopped and looked back at George: "Wait, you said..."
He asked: "An Yi texts you every day?"
George nodded: "Yeah."
Hadn't he already said that?
"Every day?"
"Yeah."
Xing Ruize frowned: "He texts you first?"
George hesitated. Well, no, not really, but...
He looked at Xing Ruize and sincerely suggested: "Captain, I can tell you really like An Yi too! You miss him, huh? You can text him first, you know!"
Like... like?
What?
What was George talking about?
Saying he liked An Yi?
He... how was that possible... they were teammates! They—
Right!
He liked An Yi!!
That was it!
He actually liked An Yi!!
Xing Ruize's brow twitched, and a weird, almost-smile crossed his face. He didn't say another word and walked off.
George watched his retreating figure, scratching his head. The captain was really off today.
Comments section:
"????"
"Whoa! No freaking way?!"
"The male lead is actually into An Yi?"
"Are they really making the male lead gay? Hahahahaha! I don't believe it! Author, you're definitely messing with us, right?"
"Gay! Ah! Gay!"
"My eyes! My eyes! I can't unsee this!"
"What? They're actually writing gay content in a male-oriented novel? Then I gotta try it out! (taking a big bite.jpg)"
"What? The male-oriented section has a veteran foodie?"
"Wait, why are you all so excited? Didn't we already call this? An Yi is a girl pretending to be a guy, right? It has to be! Otherwise, how could the male lead..."
"Wake up, dude! This is a sci-fi story! A girl pretending to be a guy to get into military academy? What year is it that you still need to do that? You wouldn't even get past the entrance physical!"
"Then she's the FL! Definitely the FL! The author's just holding back the reveal! (grimacing.jpg)"
"Right, right, right. The FL pretends to be a guy, gets discovered by the ML, and they get together. Classic trope! I know the drill!"
"You guys... you really don't want to believe the male lead is into a guy, huh!"
"I told you guys! An Yi is clearly a guy! There's no way he's a girl pretending to be a boy! You blind idiots! (picking you up and pouring out the water in your brain.jpg)"
"Shut up! She's the FL! No arguments!"
"Fine, fine, FL it is. Whatever floats your boat (indulgent smile.jpg)"
"You poor straight guys! Keep lying to yourselves! (lighting a cigarette.jpg)"
"Oi~ Author! You little rascal! (Duckie, you're into me, huh?.jpg)"
"I can't take it anymore. As a straight guy, I'm about to drop this novel. What the hell is this plot even going?!"
"Oh, face it! The male lead is gay!"
"No! No! No! (Snowflakes fluttering~ North wind howling~)"
"I can't accept this! Maybe there'll be a plot twist later!"
"A twist? What twist? That the male lead turns out to be the female lead? That's even worse!"
"Hahahahaha help, you guys are too much"
"..."
An Yi: "..."
Huh?
Xing Ruize finally figured out why he's been acting weird? About time.
But sure enough, he's lost it again, old friend.
