Chapter 10.3. The Healer.

As the merchant caravan approached Kebelek, tired and dusty from long journey, Cian felt a twinge of unease. The town lay nestled amidst lush forest, river meandering through its heart like lifeblood itself.

Lilith rode at head of the caravan, her eyes scanning horizon for any sign of danger, even as she kept watchful gaze on companions behind. Sharr brought up rear, snakelike form winding sinuously, over uneven ground with predatory grace.

The town gates loomed before them now, wooden planks weathered by time yet standing strong against ravages of nature and man alike. Guard patrolled ramparts overhead, spears glinting in sunlight, as they called out challenge to newcomers below.

– State your business! – came cry, rough voice carrying easily over chatter merchants.

Lilith reined horse to halt, dark hair falling like curtain around her face, hidden by mask, as she turned towards gatekeepers, with cool appraising gaze.

– We come in peace, – she called back, smooth tones belying undercurrent steel: – Merchants from far lands, bringing goods to sell.

One of the guards searched merchant thoroughly, hands moving quickly over packs and saddlebags in search of contraband or hidden weapons.

– Nothing amiss here, – one guard grunted, waving his companions on to next traveler: – Move along now.

Lilith watched with interest, as guards continued their meticulous examination. This level of scrutiny spoke volumes about town’s security measures. And perhaps hinted at threats, they might face within walls themselves.

Ahead, Kebelek sprawled before them in all its glory – stone buildings rising like sentinels amidst lush greenery, river meandering through town with graceful ease. The air itself seemed to shimmer here, imbued by some unseen force that set every nerve alight. Lilith took deep breath, letting scent of earth and water wash over her, as she savored moment.

Then guards were beckoning them forward once more, gates creaking open.

– Welcome to Kebelek! – came cry from above, rough voice softened by underlying warmth: – May Dian Cecht’s blessings guide you safe passage through our town!

Lilith smiled then, her eyes crinkling at corners, as she urged horse across threshold into new realm.

The road stretched before them now – winding path filled equal parts with wonder and danger alike. And at its heart? A new opportunities awaited her.

As the caravan entered Kebelek’s gates, Lilith took in its splendor, with wide eyes and bated breath. The town was a marvel of ancient architecture. With towering stone buildings, adorned by intricate carvings, depicting gods and heroes of old.

The air here seemed to shimmer with power, imbued by the divine presence of Dian Cecht himself – healer to the Tuatha Dé Danann, guardian and keeper of Dagda’s Cauldron.

Streets were paved with smooth marble, glowing softly in sunlight, as they wound through lush gardens and bubbling fountains alike. Everywhere one looked, signs of divine craftsmanship abounded – from the delicate filigree adorning lampposts, to the towering statues, watching over crossroads with stern gaze.

At heart of town stood great temple, its golden domes glinting like sun itself against azure sky. This was seat of Dian Cecht’s power, source of all healing magic that flowed through these lands.

And nestled within? Dagda’s Cauldron – artifact of untold potentiality, waiting claim to those brave enough to reach out and grasp it.

Lilith swallowed hard, eyes narrowing as she surveyed majesty spread before her. This was no mere stopover town, after all. She wanted to get here for a long time.

Merchant approached her, but Lilith left negotiations to Cian. Soon tuatha boy returned, and gave her a small pouch, filled with silver coins.

– Our job is over. We are free to do what we want.

– Have you been here before?

– Yes, many times.

– Ever met Dian Cecht?

– Yes. Twice, but… – Cian touched his slave collar, but Lilith ignored his gesture.

– Good. Found us a place for a night. Something with a large bath.

Cian nodded and showed Lilith’s mercenary band a way.
