Chapter 119: Re: You Are My Faith
The Devil’s Tree, which had loomed over Turan like a shadow for hundreds of years, was finally sealed!
Everyone rejoiced, ready to celebrate this hard-won victory.
Yet a sharp sword suddenly pierced Shang Ke’s body. Blood splashed across Tylor’s face, and the man who had been smiling only an instant ago collapsed into his arms like a puppet whose strings had been cut.
The one who attacked him was none other than Quincy, the friend who had grown up alongside him!
Quincy laughed wildly. “…I hate you. I hate you! Why were you born high above everyone else while I was destined to remain beneath you forever, trailing behind you like some pathetic lackey?”
Tylor’s eyes turned bloodred. Overwhelming rage and grief nearly stripped away his reason as he seized the sword beside him and drove it straight through Quincy’s heart.
The man who had hurt Shang Ke was dead, but that could not bring back the life steadily fading from Shang Ke’s body.
With trembling fingers, Tylor tried to feed Shang Ke medicine, completely ignoring Kaiser’s questions and shouts. The man in his arms kept coughing up blood, his lips moving as though he wanted to say something. Tylor bent down and pressed his ear close, but in the end, he never managed to hear his voice.
Tylor’s vision gradually blurred. It was as though a bottomless black hole had opened inside his mind, voraciously devouring his thoughts and reason until only one monster remained—fear.
Night receded and dawn arrived, yet beneath the rising sun, wisps of black demonic energy began seeping from Tylor’s body.
“Tylor!” Kaiser shouted in alarm. “Snap out of it!”
Tylor held Shang Ke’s body in his arms, completely oblivious to every sound around him.
Everyone could only watch helplessly as the demonic energy began corrupting Tylor.
A sharp crack rang out. Everyone turned toward the sound and saw the Magic Crystal in the hands of the normally quiet Pupu shatter into countless fragments. The pure power of faith surrounding her vanished without a trace, replaced by the same black demonic energy now engulfing Tylor.
Because of Shang Ke’s death, Tylor and Pupu fell one after the other into the abyss of darkness.
Although the Devil’s Tree had been sealed, demonic energy still remained in the world. It could no longer directly compel people to commit evil, but the human heart was complicated. Once someone became corrupted by demonic energy, malicious thoughts could easily take root and give rise to all kinds of calamities.
More terrifyingly, they were standing at the very heart of the Devil’s Tree, where the dense demonic energy had yet to disperse. Everyone there could barely resist its corruption through the power of faith. Once that faith collapsed, the demonic energy would immediately surge in like a tide.
Having lost the Devil’s Tree as its vessel, the surrounding demonic energy seized upon Tylor and Pupu as new hosts and poured madly into their bodies.
Kaiser and the others were forced back again and again, shut outside the vortex formed by the demonic energy. Amid the bright sunlight, a vast region abruptly disappeared beneath roiling black mist, completely swallowing Tylor and Pupu from view.
When the black mist finally dispersed, everyone was stunned to discover that Tylor and Pupu had vanished without a trace. Shang Ke’s body was gone with them…
The Devil’s Tree had been sealed, yet two elusive half-demons now wandered the continent. They were neither apostles of the Devil’s Tree nor believers in Light, but the demonic energy within them was powerful enough to drag anyone into the abyss.
They stayed far from civilization, wandering through bitterly cold lands. They were revered as heroes and feared as devils in equal measure. No one dared approach them, for those unfortunate enough to encounter them would inevitably become children of darkness.
The demonic energy granted Tylor seemingly endless vitality, but all it gave him was more time to endure loneliness and bitter cold. Day after day, he remained beside Shang Ke, who lay within an ice coffin.
Pupu gradually grew older, but her mind remained that of a five- or six-year-old child. She didn’t care how monotonous or empty their life became and always stayed close to Shang Ke. She believed her daddy was only asleep and that one day, sooner or later, he would wake up.
The two lived an isolated life in the snowy mountains until a band of mercenaries discovered them, mistook them for apostles of the Devil’s Tree, and decided to eliminate them. Tylor had not intended to put up much resistance. If he died, so be it—there was nothing left in the world he particularly wanted to cling to. But then the mercenaries destroyed Shang Ke’s ice coffin and attempted to desecrate his body.
That crossed the absolute limit of Tylor’s tolerance. After years without killing, he once again raised his blade and slaughtered every one of the more than twenty mercenaries.
“I’m sorry.” Tylor rebuilt an ice coffin for Shang Ke and whispered, “I won’t casually give up my life again. I’ll spend every moment I have left protecting you.”
Tylor kept that promise for one hundred and twenty years. He remained with Shang Ke for one hundred and twenty years—and was lonely for one hundred and twenty years.
Pupu passed away before him. Even at the moment of her death, she had never gotten to see her daddy wake up.
As she lay dying, Pupu told Tylor, “Ty, if Daddy wakes up, you have to tell Pupu. I want to eat the snacks he makes, listen to him play music, and have him braid my hair…”
Pupu’s voice gradually faded away, but her face still held the same look of eager anticipation.
Tylor had thought he could no longer feel pain, but at that moment, he truly felt as though he could not endure any longer.
He had promised not to casually throw his life away, but his life seemed to have no end. Thirty years, fifty years, a hundred years—he remained perfectly healthy.
“I’m sorry, Shang Ke. Please let me be selfish just this once.” Tylor leaned against the ice coffin and said quietly, “I don’t want to live anymore.”
Beside the place where he had buried Pupu, Tylor dug another deep grave. He carefully laid Shang Ke inside, then stretched out beside him.
Watching the snow drift down into the grave as the bitter wind howled overhead, Tylor slowly closed his eyes. At last, all the pain and loneliness in his world disappeared…
That year, he was one hundred and fifty-three years old.
