Chapter 129: Sentinel & Guide (VI)
The house assigned to Shang Ke by the Guide Association was a small two-story duplex villa built in the same architectural style as the surrounding residences. It was located in Zone 2 of Sky Ring Estate, three streets away from Zone 1, where Yonis lived. At Yonis’s speed, the distance amounted to little more than ten seconds.
In the end, Yonis still used “protection” as an excuse to move in with Shang Ke, merely relocating himself from Zone 1 to Zone 2. Of course, if Shang Ke occasionally wanted to stay in Zone 1 instead, that would be perfectly fine too.
As a Rank-A Dark Sentinel, Yonis was generally responsible only for major incidents, so apart from necessary training, he had plenty of free time. He was more than happy to spend it cultivating his relationship with Shang Ke. Although they had not yet bonded, every interaction between their spirit animals left him feeling extraordinarily comfortable, and even the hidden damage accumulated over years of combat seemed to be gradually healing under Shang Ke’s soothing influence.
A Sentinel with a Guide really is blessed!
Yonis was thoroughly content. The only thing leaving him unbearably restless was that he still could not immediately bond with his Guide.
Watching Shang Ke grow healthier by the day, he believed that those wonderful days would arrive very soon.
With continued exercise, Shang Ke’s physical condition steadily improved. The physical enhancements accumulated over several worlds gradually began manifesting in his new body, bringing his muscles, bones, flexibility, and other qualities into near-perfect harmony.
If Shang Ke had still looked somewhat sickly two months earlier, then two months later he had completely transformed. His formerly black-dyed hair had returned to its striking wine-red color, his thin muscles had become lean and firm, tracing elegant lines over his body, and his tall, slender figure now stood straight and handsome. Even the ugly scars across his skin had gradually faded into pale pink marks resembling tattoos.
Yonis witnessed every one of Shang Ke’s changes. It was like opening a long-sealed treasure chest and discovering a new surprise inside every day.
“Sir, something’s wrong! Sir Monroe is in danger!” An urgent message shattered Yonis’s peaceful routine.
Monroe was one of the three Rank-A Dark Sentinels whose name stood alongside Yonis’s.
“What happened?” Yonis asked.
“Sir Monroe accepted a classified mission some time ago. After returning from it, his mental state became abnormal, and his psychic domain appears to have begun collapsing.”
“Understood. I’ll be there immediately.” Yonis ended the call and looked toward Shang Ke beside him. “Will you come somewhere with me?”
Shang Ke nodded.
The two headed together to Monroe’s residence in Zone 1.
The moment they reached the entrance, Shang Ke sensed the rampaging psychic energy suspended in the air, churning violently like boiling water.
Yonis stepped forward and released his psychic power, erecting a mental barrier around Shang Ke to protect him from the wildly rampaging energy.
Led by a soldier, they entered Monroe’s room. Seven people were already standing inside, including Mitchell, Ta’s third Rank-A Dark Sentinel. There were also two Rank-C Dark Sentinels, one Rank-A Guide, and two Rank-B Guides.
The three Guides were deathly pale, each standing beside a Dark Sentinel with deep fear in their eyes.
When Yonis entered, everyone except Mitchell saluted him.
Yonis walked to the bedside and stared gravely at Monroe, who had been restrained on the bed. Monroe was already one hundred and thirty years old and was the most powerful Rank-A Dark Sentinel in Ta. Dark Sentinels did not require assistance from Guides and could rapidly increase their strength through their own extraordinary self-control. Conversely, however, Guides compatible with Dark Sentinels were exceedingly rare, with psychic compatibility generally falling below fifty percent. At such a low level of compatibility, forcibly bonding would inevitably kill the Guide, which was why many Dark Sentinels chose ordinary people incapable of manifesting psychic power as their partners.
Even lower-ranking Dark Sentinels struggled to find suitable Guides, much less those standing at the very top.
Rank A was a critical threshold for Dark Sentinels. Crossing it meant entering an entirely new realm; failing meant complete destruction.
“Monroe may not survive this time.” Mitchell glanced at the three Guides and said indifferently, “The Guide Association sent ten high-ranking Guides. Every attempt at mental guidance failed. Even these last three managed to hold on for only five minutes.”
Pain appeared on everyone’s faces. Everyone present was either a Guide or a Dark Sentinel, and they understood all too well the loneliness and danger hidden behind a Dark Sentinel’s overwhelming strength.
Yonis looked at the three exhausted Guides, then at Shang Ke beside him, uncertain for once. He had not expected Monroe’s condition to have deteriorated this badly. With Shang Ke’s psychic power, could he really help Monroe survive this crisis?
“Let me try,” Shang Ke offered after noticing Yonis’s hesitation.
Only then did everyone focus on him. Dressed in white casual clothes, Shang Ke stood straight and graceful beside Yonis, the two of them looking as harmonious and natural as a gentle breeze beneath warm sunlight.
Everyone knew Yonis had recently applied for an provisional partner, and this must be the person in question. His appearance was certainly outstanding, but could he truly withstand a Dark Sentinel’s psychic power?
Yonis hooked an arm around Shang Ke’s waist and said heavily, “Don’t force yourself.”
Shang Ke nodded and stepped toward Monroe’s bedside.
Yonis withdrew the mental barrier, then watched Shang Ke’s every movement intently, refusing to miss even the slightest sign that something was wrong.
By this point, the others held little hope for Monroe’s recovery. Even if this Guide possessed psychic power compatible with Yonis, that did not mean he would also be compatible with other Dark Sentinels, much less a Rank-A Dark Sentinel whose psychic power was currently raging out of control.
However, the moment Shang Ke released his psychic power, their thinking changed completely.
A pale-blue ripple spread outward through the air as a spirit animal gradually condensed into form. Surrounded by a turbulent, raging psychic sea, Wave did not retreat. Instead, he happily surged straight into the rolling currents.
At the same time, every Dark Sentinel’s spirit animal in the room manifested. They stretched out comfortably, luxuriating in the pleasure brought by Shang Ke’s psychic power as though savoring fine wine.
The most shocked was Mitchell, himself a Rank-A Dark Sentinel. He could see Shang Ke’s spirit animal with perfect clarity, which meant his compatibility with this Guide exceeded ninety percent.
A Guide whose compatibility with a Rank-A Dark Sentinel exceeded ninety percent? It was practically unheard of!
And it was not only Mitchell. Even the other two Rank-C Dark Sentinels could faintly make out Wave’s silhouette, proving that Shang Ke’s psychic compatibility with them was also quite high.
Could the Guide before them actually be psychically compatible with every Dark Sentinel?
One scorching gaze after another immediately fell on Shang Ke.
Shang Ke remained completely focused, pale-blue light radiating around him as his red hair floated gently and his beautiful eyes shimmered like water. Nourished by his psychic power, Monroe’s previously violent psychic energy gradually calmed, following the path of Wave as he swam until it became quiet and orderly. Finally, it gathered above Monroe’s head and condensed into the form of a fox spirit animal.
The fox stretched its limbs as nine tails appeared one after another behind it, swaying lightly through the air like feathered fans.
The rampaging psychic energy vanished without a trace, and everything returned to tranquility.
Peace settled over every Dark Sentinel’s face, especially Monroe’s. After receiving Shang Ke’s mental healing, he had not only escaped the danger of self-destruction, but his strength had actually advanced another step. His previously somewhat slack muscles became powerful and firm once more, making him seem almost restored to the prime of his life.
Everyone was stunned, hardly able to believe their own eyes.
At that moment, Monroe’s fox spirit animal lightly bounded over to Wave and affectionately rubbed its head beneath the dolphin’s chin.
A golden blur flashed over, knocking the fox aside and planting itself protectively in front of Wave. Moro glared fiercely at the fox: 【He’s mine!】
The fox swished its tails and looked back at Moro with smiling eyes, apparently taking the declaration none too seriously.
“Thank you.” A low, hoarse voice suddenly sounded in the room.
Everyone turned toward the sound and discovered that Monroe had awakened at some point. He looked gently at Shang Ke, surprise mingling with the joy of having been given a new lease on life.
“You’re welcome.” Shang Ke returned his smile.
Monroe then looked toward Yonis standing beside Shang Ke and asked with a smile, “Yours?”
“Mine,” Yonis answered without the slightest hesitation.
“Oh.” Monroe drawled leisurely. “Then you’d better keep a close eye on him from now on.”
A Guide compatible with every Dark Sentinel would be an almost irresistible temptation to any of them. Yonis might be immensely powerful, but Sentinels capable of matching him were not entirely nonexistent. There was one standing in this very room.
Monroe glanced toward Mitchell, who was leaning against a corner and silently watching Shang Ke. If Monroe himself were fifty years younger, he would probably have joined the competition as well. What a pity…
Yonis left Monroe’s residence with Shang Ke, while Mitchell followed close behind.
“Shang Ke.” Mitchell called his name.
Shang Ke turned to look at him.
“Until we meet again.” Leaving behind those words and a meaningful look, Mitchell departed with easy grace.
Yonis’s pupils contracted. That bastard might have been speaking to Shang Ke, but in reality, he had just issued Yonis a challenge!
Before today, Yonis had never truly realized just how special Shang Ke was to Dark Sentinels. He had been alone for so long that he had never seriously imagined finding a Guide suitable for him in the first place. But after today, every Dark Sentinel in Ta would probably learn of Shang Ke’s existence.
The treasure that had originally belonged only to him would soon be coveted by countless others, and the thought filled him with unbearable agitation.
Yonis’s psychic state began fluctuating violently as a fear that seemed to rise directly from his soul suddenly took hold.
“What’s wrong?” Shang Ke asked, immediately sensing something unusual.
“Nothing,” Yonis replied in a tightly suppressed voice.
But how could a Sentinel’s psychic fluctuations possibly be hidden from a Guide?
Shang Ke said nothing more and quietly returned to the villa with him. Yonis escorted him back to his room and immediately left, completely unlike his usual habit of finding any excuse to cling to Shang Ke. Based on Shang Ke’s understanding of him, the innate scummy streak buried inside this man was probably about to erupt.
Shang Ke leisurely took a shower while sensing the chaotic psychic fluctuations coming from the other room. No matter how desperately Yonis tried to suppress them, his psychic power continued growing increasingly restless beyond his control.
Based on two months of experience living together, whenever Yonis had so much as a minor headache or fever—even when there was nothing wrong with him at all, he would manufacture a problem—then send his lion over to act pitiful, complain, and beg Shang Ke for soothing.
Yet now, even with his psychic power already this violently unstable, he still refused to come ask Shang Ke for help.
If Shang Ke had guessed correctly, Yonis was probably afraid he might hurt him after losing control.
Shang Ke stood before the mirror, moved his arms and legs, stretched his muscles and joints, and thoroughly warmed himself up as though preparing for battle. Only after confirming that his body was in perfect condition did he loosen his collar and gracefully head toward Yonis’s room, practically surrounded by an aura of temptation.
Knock, knock. Shang Ke politely knocked on the door.
The room remained silent. There was no response.
Shang Ke knocked several more times.
Bang! The door was suddenly wrenched open. Yonis stared at Shang Ke with bloodshot eyes and forced the words through clenched teeth. “I’m giving you three seconds. Go back to your room and sleep. Now.”
“I wanted to ask whether you…”
“Time’s up!” Yonis seized Shang Ke and dragged him into the room, kicking the door shut behind them.
“…needed any help?” The second half of Shang Ke’s sentence disappeared behind the closed door. (Shang Ke: That wasn’t even three seconds!)
Before long, the sound of clothing tearing came from inside the room, followed by intermittent moans and then a succession of muffled impacts.
Their psychic powers intertwined, transforming into a raging storm that rapidly swept through the entire villa.
Shang Ke had thought he was thoroughly prepared, but when he actually received Yonis’s penetration, he still felt that he had rushed things. He did his best to relax his body while enduring the force of each thrust, simultaneously using his psychic power to soothe Yonis’s violent emotions.
The instant Yonis bonded with Shang Ke, a deep, hoarse growl escaped his throat, filled with boundless excitement. He maneuvered Shang Ke’s body beneath him, doing everything he could to make every thrust drive all the way to the deepest point.
As their psychic powers merged, the physical pleasure intensified as well.
Because of their physiology, Dark Sentinels rarely encountered Guides truly compatible with them, and even after finding a partner, reaching orgasm remained extremely difficult. Often their partners would already be exhausted while the Dark Sentinel remained fully aroused. The torment of possessing overwhelming desire yet being unable to satisfy it was difficult for ordinary people to imagine.
An hour later, Yonis finally reached orgasm for the first time with Shang Ke, and his chaotic psychic state settled with it. Looking at Shang Ke in his arms, Yonis experienced a depth of satisfaction he had never known before.
He massaged Shang Ke’s sore, weakened muscles while continuing to rub against his body, reluctant to pull away from him.
Shang Ke lay on his side, relaxing as he enjoyed the massage. In his daze, he felt his lower body being filled once again, and then another round of heated sex began…
So this was what bonding between a Sentinel and a Guide was like.
This ultimate pleasure was addictive after a single taste, impossible to give up afterward. Yonis felt that the decades he had lived before this had all been wasted. He had once believed he did not need a Guide, but only now did he understand that what a Guide gave a Sentinel was not merely psychic and physical comfort, but a sense of completeness in the soul itself.
How unbelievably fortunate he was to have found a Guide so perfectly compatible with him.
Yonis gently kissed the sleeping Shang Ke. The satisfaction in his body and exhilaration in his mind left him completely unable to sleep.
This man was his. He would not allow anyone else to set their sights on him.
At the thought that Shang Ke would soon become the object of every Dark Sentinel’s desire, a murderous chill flashed through Yonis’s eyes.
