Chapter 190: Let’s Run, Fox (VI)

To prepare for the celebration, everyone busied themselves storing food, weaving clothes, crafting ornaments, and handling countless other tasks. The unmated young men and women worked with particular enthusiasm.

When Mutu brought his prey back, a crowd immediately gathered. White xiao were nocturnal and rarely seen. Their snow-white fur was silky smooth, repelled water and dust, resisted decay, and even carried a faint natural fragrance. It was the sort of pelt people could hardly bear to stop touching.

The women’s eyes shone especially brightly as they looked at their Lion King, each hoping he would entrust the pelt to her. It was more than vanity; it carried a clear implication. Whoever the Lion King chose to prepare his ceremonial clothing was very likely to become the first person he favored on his coming-of-age night.

To everyone’s surprise, however, Mutu handed the prey to Yanu—a male fox who could not speak. Did that mean he intended to spend his coming-of-age night with another male? Young lions occasionally helped each other relieve sexual tension, but in their culture females were still considered the ideal partners because they could bear children and were physically better suited for mating.

Everyone’s gaze shifted toward the fox beside Mutu. He was slender and graceful, with long, straight legs and snow-white hair falling loosely down his back. Several strands covered most of his face, but whenever the breeze stirred them, a fleeting glimpse of startling beauty appeared beneath. A huge, soft tail swayed gently behind him like a fan. Even standing still, he was extraordinarily pleasing to look at.

Strange. Had the mute fox always been this beautiful? Spending a coming-of-age night with someone like him suddenly did not seem so difficult to understand…

When Mutu noticed so many young men staring at the fox, irritation immediately rose in his chest. “What are you all standing around for? Get back to work!”

The crowd scattered with laughter, though the women were less amused by a male fox stealing their spotlight. Each secretly vowed to dress as beautifully as possible on the day of the ceremony and make the Lion King choose her for his coming-of-age night.

Shang Ke was busy preparing Mutu’s ceremonial clothing and had no time to keep feeding a certain lion. Mutu sulked through the meals his subordinates prepared for him and became convinced he had lost weight and that even his mane had lost some of its luster. This, of course, existed entirely in his imagination.

To ensure nothing went wrong, Shang Ke kept mostly to himself and carried every important item with him. That gave anyone with malicious intentions almost no opportunity to act. In a situation like this, sabotage was practically inevitable—destroying the ceremonial clothing, manufacturing disputes, spreading superstitious rumors, anything that might undermine Mutu’s authority.

As Shang Ke expected, Xite did try to find an opening. Between Shang Ke’s caution and Mutu’s covert surveillance, however, he never got one. All he could do was watch helplessly as every preparation fell neatly into place.

Several dozen days later, the long-awaited coming-of-age celebration finally arrived.

A huge bonfire blazed in the center of the open ground, surrounded by tables of roasted and steamed meat, fish and shrimp, wild vegetables, fruit, and every other food the tribe could prepare. Fine ornaments and fresh flowers decorated the celebration area. Everyone had scrubbed themselves clean, put on their best clothes, and wore bright smiles.

“Yanu, there you are. Hurry inside—the chief is waiting for you.” A young lion ushered him forward and pushed him into Mutu’s room.

Inside, Mutu stood with his back to Shang Ke, completely naked. Powerful muscles shifted across his broad back, his limbs were thick with strength, and his bronze skin was crossed by scars that marked a warrior’s honor. The overall effect was intensely, unapologetically wild.

He had only just reached adulthood, yet his proportions had already broken every reasonable growth pattern. Even his full-blooded brother Xite was a full head shorter.

“Fox.” Mutu turned at the sound. The moment he saw Shang Ke, his eyes lit up.

Shang Ke walked over carrying the clothes and began dressing him.

He had prepared a complete ceremonial outfit for Mutu, from the inner garments to the belt and accessories.

Mutu let Shang Ke dress him as he pleased, completely unabashed about displaying his powerful body. Shang Ke, who had already “seen countless men,” remained perfectly calm. Mutu, however, was a rough but remarkably “innocent” man, and the fox’s touch provoked the most direct possible reaction. His erection tented his trousers so high that Shang Ke could not even fasten the belt. Unable to resist, Shang Ke slapped the bulge once as though he could make it go down. It only rose higher.

Shang Ke looked up at him pointedly: Are you planning to attend the ceremony with that thing sticking out?

Mutu looked utterly innocent and showed no inclination to hide it. To beastfolk, obvious male sexual traits were simply another expression of strength and attractiveness—nothing to conceal or be ashamed of.

Shang Ke decided he might need to set aside the modesty and conventions of more civilized eras for a while if he wanted to survive the blunt, primitive customs of this world.

It took Shang Ke more than half an hour to finish dressing the lion. Mutu wore linen-cotton garments beneath a leather vest, paired with an elegant belt and boots. Over everything went the cloak made from the white xiao’s pelt. It emphasized his massive build and gave him an imposing, almost noble grandeur that made people reluctant to meet his gaze directly.

The moment he appeared at the ceremony, admiring gasps rose everywhere. His cloak billowed with each powerful stride, stirring the air behind him.

At the front of the ceremonial grounds, Mutu knelt on one knee and received the elders’ blessing, formally declaring before everyone that from this day onward he had come of age and would shoulder the responsibility of protecting his people and leading the tribe toward greater prosperity.

When the ceremony concluded, celebration erupted and the atmosphere reached its peak.

Next came dancing, revelry, and—most importantly—courtship.

Everyone, however, waited for the Lion King to choose first. A female could refuse an ordinary male’s courtship, but the Lion King’s choice could not be rejected. As the tribe’s strongest leader, he was also the most sought-after male, and being chosen by him was considered an honor.

Marriage among the lions was otherwise relatively free. Two people who wished to form a household simply applied to the elders, who blessed them, recorded their union under the tribe’s name, and allowed them to live together. If the relationship later failed, they could request a separation and dissolve the bond. Infidelity during the marriage, however, was forbidden and punished.

Mutu ignored the eager looks directed at him and swept his gaze around the celebration until he found his fox nearby.

Several lion girls had surrounded Shang Ke. They had clearly approached him on purpose, yet their conversation was halfhearted; while pretending to be interested in him, their eyes kept drifting toward stronger young men elsewhere in the crowd.

If they were supposed to use their beauty to lure him away from Mutu, they were doing a terribly unprofessional job of it. With attitudes this perfunctory, even heavenly beauties would fail to hook him!

Fortunately, he was mute and had no obligation to keep the conversation going. All he had to do was stand there and be a quiet, unobtrusive, beautiful fox.

Just as boredom was setting in, a strong gust swept in behind him. Every girl around him immediately raised her head, expectation and admiration lighting her face.

Shang Ke was about to turn when his body suddenly lifted off the ground. Someone slung him over a shoulder, and amid the crowd’s startled exclamations he was carried straight into the Lion King’s room.

Mutu put the fox on the bed, came down over him, and kissed him hard while rapidly stripping both of them naked.

Seeing his fox “flirting and laughing” with other females had filled Mutu with fury. (Shang Ke: Be reasonable! I did neither the flirting nor the laughing!)

This fox was his. No one else was allowed to touch him!

Mutu gave Shang Ke no chance to catch his breath, kissing him with near-brutal intensity and stealing every breath from his lungs.

Shang Ke let out a soft, muffled moan. The sound scratched across Mutu’s heart like a cat’s paw. He thrust forward instinctively, but he was too thick to enter.

“Relax, Fox.” Mutu’s voice was hoarse with suppressed impatience.

Shang Ke badly wanted to explain that relaxation was not the problem. Their sizes simply did not match!

Shang Ke had clearly underestimated a beastfolk’s resilience. Relying on nothing but animal instinct and sheer persistence—with absolutely no technique—Mutu gradually forced his thick cock inside.

Shang Ke felt as though his body had been split straight through. Somehow, his slender frame had taken all of him.

Mutu let out several low growls. Once he was past the initial resistance, he lifted Shang Ke’s legs and began thrusting hard. Shang Ke’s white tail curled around his waist, trembling with every movement.

The crude wooden bed creaked without pause as the room filled with the heavy heat of sex…

At dusk the next day, a young lion came to the door and, hearing no movement inside, immediately looked relieved. This was already his fourth time checking. On the previous three visits, the two inside had still been having sex—loudly, vigorously, and without any sign of stopping. Only now had things finally gone quiet.

The young lion could not help admiring him. As expected of the Lion King: not only the tribe’s strongest warrior, but apparently its most enduring male in bed as well.

Shang Ke opened his eyes groggily and found himself sprawled across Mutu’s chest. They were both completely naked, clothes scattered everywhere, and the room looked thoroughly wrecked.

Supporting his aching waist, Shang Ke pushed himself upright and prepared to get out of bed. A sudden tug on his tail pulled him straight back. Mutu wrapped both arms around him and held him like a body pillow, looking utterly satisfied.

Shang Ke wriggled several times without escaping and finally gave up. Even his tail went limp in defeat.

Mutu clearly enjoyed Shang Ke’s helpless expression and could not resist nibbling his ear twice. He was just about to continue when his stomach suddenly growled.

Mutu: “…”

Shang Ke: “…”

“I’m hungry,” Mutu said at last.

Shang Ke: Obviously.

“How about roasted pheasant later?” Mutu asked hopefully.

Whatever makes you happy. Taking advantage of Mutu loosening his grip, Shang Ke rolled over and left him with nothing but one aloof, aristocratic tail.

Mutu moved the tail aside and leaned closer, his tone almost ingratiating. “Fox, it’s been ages since I had the pheasant you roast.”

If you want to eat it, go make your own.

“Fox, fox…” Mutu gently tugged at his tail.

Shang Ke ignored him.

“…If you won’t feed me pheasant, I’ll eat you instead!” Mutu threatened.

Shang Ke turned around.

Mutu did his best to look mighty and domineering.

Shang Ke rolled over and began to dress.

Mutu’s eyes lit up, his leonine pride swelling. He thought the little fox had finally yielded to his “terrifying authority.”

Then the fox served dinner, and Mutu realized how catastrophically wrong he had been. The table held nothing but wild greens, thin soup, and scraps of minced meat. There was not even an egg.

Mutu wilted and privately wondered whether he had somehow failed to work hard enough the night before and left his fox dissatisfied.
