Chapter 245: Back To That Key Moment ⑧
Yonis felt that the situation had become increasingly dangerous. The number of people coveting his Keke seemed to be multiplying geometrically. Whenever the two of them appeared in public, Yonis could feel waves of envy, jealousy, and resentment from every direction. The only reason no one challenged him openly was because they feared his strength.
Even so, a powerful sense of crisis had taken root in Yonis. He could not stop worrying that one day he might be badly injured or crippled on a mission and lose the ability to keep Shang Ke by his side. In a world where strength commanded respect, rules could restrain the weak, but meant very little to certain powerful people.
Besides, Shang Ke was a Guide. Although Guides nominally possessed autonomy, if one encountered someone as domineering as Yonis, there might in reality be very little room to choose. The one thing Yonis was grateful for was that Shang Ke had accepted him before he ever resorted to coercive measures. As a tremendously powerful Dark Sentinel, Yonis had been born with the same pride and possessiveness as any other Sentinel. Looking back now, if Keke had rejected him, Yonis had no idea how things might have developed. It probably would have become a tragic story of love and mutual destruction…
“What are you thinking about?” Shang Ke handed Yonis a cup of hot tea and smiled at the stern expression on his face.
Yonis did not answer. He set the cup aside, pulled Shang Ke into his arms, and contentedly absorbed the warmth of his body.
“I heard you’ve been doing extreme enhancement training lately?” Shang Ke turned around in his embrace and smoothly slipped beneath the covers.
“Mm.” Yonis followed him down and rested his head against Shang Ke’s chest.
“Extreme enhancement training is usually meant to push the human body to its limit. With your current strength, there’s no reason to rush that aggressively, is there?” Shang Ke absently combed through Yonis’s hair with his fingers, apparently trying to find one or two white strands. Then he realized the gesture made him look a little like a grooming ape, withdrew his hand, and sprawled comfortably on his back.
Yonis was silent for a moment. “I want to break through the bottleneck as soon as possible.” Even that brat Leo was skipping grades. As the boy’s father, Yonis had no excuse to remain stuck in place.
“Darling, the average Sentinel lives to around a hundred and fifty, and you’re the only Dark Sentinel in all of Ta who reached Rank A before thirty.” Shang Ke stared at the ceiling as he advised him. “You aren’t even forty yet. Your body is still at its peak. What you lack is the gradual accumulation and refinement of psychic power, and that takes time and patience. Enhancement training will make your muscles harder, but it won’t do much for your psychic growth.”
“No.”
“What?”
Yonis rolled over and braced himself on either side of Shang Ke, staring down at him with burning eyes. “It doesn’t only improve my muscles. It improves my stamina and endurance too.”
As he spoke, he used one leg to spread Shang Ke’s thighs and pressed his lower body tightly against him, making sure Shang Ke could clearly feel how large and hard he was.
The scorching, rigid pressure made Shang Ke tremble.
Doing his best to ignore the obvious erection grinding against him, Shang Ke said sincerely, “Your stamina and endurance are already more than good enough. You absolutely do not need to strengthen them further.”
“I’m an ambitious man.” Yonis slowly rubbed against him. “In this area, I’ll never be satisfied. I intend to do everything in my power and seek a breakthrough day after ‘day.’”
Shang Ke’s breathing hitched. While he still had enough reason left to complain, he snapped, “Stop using this trick every time you want to change the subject!”
“Who said I’m changing the subject? I just really want to fuck you.” Yonis slid one hand beneath Shang Ke’s thigh and bent down to lick and kiss his lips. As he moved, their bodies pressed even closer, Yonis’s erection grinding against Shang Ke through the thin fabric between them.
“Wait, I’m not finished talking.” Shang Ke stubbornly fought against the pleasure pulling him under.
“Go ahead.” Yonis continued grinding against him at an infuriatingly unhurried pace.
Damn it! How was he supposed to talk like this? If you’re going to put it in, then put it in already. What was the point of all this teasing?
Shang Ke glared at him. “Tell me the truth. Are you so desperate to break through because of what people have been saying?”
“What have they been saying?” Yonis nibbled Shang Ke’s ear with an expression that practically screamed, I have no idea what you’re talking about, so can we please focus on sex?
“Stop pretending!” Shang Ke cupped his head and said seriously, “I’m your Guide. I can feel your emotional fluctuations very clearly. Your psychic state has been extremely unstable lately, and even Leo has been affected. Yonis, tell me—what are you afraid of?”
Yonis stopped moving. After a long silence, he said only one thing: “I love you, Keke.”
“I know. I love you too.” So?
“I’m confident I can keep you as mine, and I have the strength to stop anyone else from touching you.”
“Mm.” And then?
“But I’m a soldier. I have a duty to protect this country, and that means I’m often away on missions. When I’m not beside you, I can’t protect you. If someone takes advantage of that opening…”
“So what you really mean is that you don’t trust me?” Shang Ke raised an eyebrow. “You think I’ll run off with someone else?”
“I know you won’t.” Yonis stared deeply into his eyes. “Even if you did, I’d bring you back at any cost—as long as I was still alive. That’s exactly why I’ve started fearing death. I want to become stronger because I need to keep this life, so I can imprison you beside me life after life.”
Shang Ke sighed inwardly. You really did manage to imprison me life after life.
In every world, they met. In every world, they fell in love. Sometimes Shang Ke found it strange that he never grew tired of it. He had never even seriously considered climbing over the wall for a change. Apparently, he was a peerless model of devotion.
“Yonis, do you know why I’ve been so active lately?” Shang Ke suddenly asked.
“Why?”
“Because I want to become stronger too.” Shang Ke wrapped his arms around Yonis’s neck. “I want to become a partner who can stand beside you and leave you with nothing to worry about. I may be a Guide, but I’ll use my own abilities to change how people see me. One day, I’ll accomplish things beyond the traditional value assigned to Guides and reach an even higher level. When that happens, people won’t pay attention to me simply because I’m a high-ranking Guide. They’ll value me as a technician, an artist, a researcher—as myself.
“Yonis, you’re not the only one under pressure. I am too. I just want you to know that no matter how much pressure there is, I’ll carry it with you. So don’t pull yourself so tight. It hurts me to see you like that.”
Yonis stared at the person beneath him, nearly drowning in the sheer fullness of his love.
Keke, I really do love you so much.
Yonis bent over him and joined their bodies together with firm, forceful certainty…
Outside the door, Leo—who had originally come to cause trouble—stood silently for a moment before quietly walking away. An unfamiliar mixture of emotions filled him: envy for his father, and longing for a love like theirs.
Damn it. How was he ever supposed to find a wife after this? His standards had just been raised to a cosmic level!
Damn parents. Flaunting their love day and night—had they ever considered the feelings of their poor single son?
After that “deep” conversation in bed, Yonis regained his former high-spirited, overbearing confidence. Other people’s comments and stares could no longer disturb his excellent mood. He remained ruthless toward his enemies, but became more cautious in action and more measured in his decisions. Mission casualty rates steadily fell while completion rates climbed.
The improvement became even more pronounced once his units were equipped with the formation sigils Shang Ke had developed. Against enemy psychic attacks, they could now respond with far greater composure.
Leo successfully skipped grades as well, jumping from first grade to third. Barely half a year later, he skipped directly from third grade into middle school and became the legendary “other people’s child” every parent used for comparison.
Over the next several years, Shang Ke devoted himself to researching weapons, medical equipment, and civilian machinery. He won one award after another and became widely famous.
Just as he had hoped, the world no longer viewed him merely as a Guide whose value lay in supporting Sentinels and producing offspring. He became known as a researcher who had made outstanding contributions to the advancement of human technology.
Three years later, ten-year-old Leo became the youngest student ever admitted to the Military Academy. His age and physical development left his hand-to-hand combat results painfully poor, but he ranked among the academy’s best in theory, weapons assembly, piloting, and psychic control. Combined with everything Shang Ke had taught him, Leo’s mechanical aptitude had already surpassed his teacher in several areas.
“Young Master Leo!” A bodyguard hurried over, visibly anxious. “Sir Shang Ke has been taken to the hospital!”
“What?” Ten-year-old Leo still looked young, but his bearing already resembled Yonis’s, carrying an innate air of authority. His expression changed immediately at the news. He questioned the bodyguard while hurrying toward the hospital.
All the bodyguard knew was that Shang Ke had suddenly fainted. They would not know the cause until the doctors completed their examination.
When Leo arrived at the hospital, the corridor was already crowded. Monroe, Mitchell, Lucien, the director… Familiar people, a familiar scene. For a moment, Leo felt as though he had stepped back into the dream that had changed everything.
This time, however, he did not have to wait long. A doctor soon emerged from the examination room. Confronted by the sharp gazes of so many powerful people, his heart involuntarily clenched.
“Ahem. Sir Yonis isn’t here?” the doctor asked, forcing himself to remain calm.
“Father is still on a mission. I’m his son. How is Papa? Why did he suddenly faint?” Leo stepped forward and fixed the doctor with such an intense stare that it seemed one bad answer might send him into an immediate rampage.
“Congratulations, Leo.” The doctor smiled. “You’re going to be an older brother soon.”
Leo froze, then understood. “Papa is pregnant?”
“Yes.” The doctor praised sincerely, “For a male Guide, Sir Shang Ke has an exceptionally suitable constitution for carrying children.”
Everyone around them looked deeply envious while inwardly cursing that absurdly lucky bastard Yonis from head to toe.
At that moment, another doctor stepped out and smiled at Leo. “Leo, please congratulate your father for me. He’s about to have two more healthy children.”
“Two?” Leo asked uncertainly.
“Yes. Sir Shang Ke is carrying twins this time.”
The corridor immediately erupted in exclamations. It had been decades since a male Guide in Ta had conceived twins. Male Guides already had low conception rates, and maintaining a pregnancy was extremely difficult. Yet Shang Ke, who had already given birth to one son, had now conceived twins!
Everyone once again cursed Yonis viciously in their hearts.
“Achoo!” Yonis, who was studying a map at that exact moment, suddenly sneezed and wondered whether his Keke was missing him.
His communicator chimed with a new message. It was from Leo and contained only one sentence: Papa is pregnant. Twins. Come back immediately.
What? Keke was pregnant? With twins?!
Yonis stared blankly for a moment before wild joy exploded across his face. He jerked his head up, eyes flushed red with excitement, and stared at the soldier beside him.
“S-Sir, what’s wrong?” Had the situation become so dire that even Yonis’s expression had changed?
Yonis enunciated each word clearly. “My Guide is pregnant with my twins.”
Before anyone could react, psychic power erupted violently around him. In a state of overwhelming excitement, a certain someone advanced without the slightest warning.
The only Rank-S Dark Sentinel in history, a Rank-SS Guide, a genius son, and now a pair of twins—this combination of talent and power would likely remain unmatched for decades to come.
As for the death of his father that Leo had once feared, Shang Ke’s return and the birth of their children had already overturned that future completely…
