Chapter 256: Back To That Key Moment ⑩

When Ge Junxuan came to see Wen Jingrong, he happened to pass several deliverymen leaving the house. The moment he stepped into the living room, he froze at the sight of boxes covering the floor. The smartpen logo printed across them was impossible to miss; there was no need to guess what was inside.

“Brother, are you planning to open a smartpen specialty store?” Ge Junxuan knew Wen Jingrong had been collecting smartpens for years, but at least he used to buy them one at a time. Had he seriously bought out an entire shop this time?

Wen Jingrong said nothing. He grabbed Ge Junxuan just as he was about to sit down and marched him straight back outside. By the time Ge Junxuan recovered, the front door had already slammed mercilessly in his face.

“What the hell is this supposed to mean?!” He had not even been offered a sip of water before being thrown out? Ge Junxuan glared at the closed door, feeling as though his fragile little heart had just taken ten thousand points of damage.

He was about to go back and demand an explanation when his phone suddenly received a message: Don’t come looking for me for the next few days. Otherwise, suffer the consequences.

Ge Junxuan: “…” Could they still be friends or not?

Inside the living room, Wen Jingrong opened the boxes one by one and carefully removed the smartpens inside.

There were seven hundred and sixty in total. From inventory count to packing to delivery, Wen Jingrong had supervised the entire process himself. He had bought every last pen, including back stock and defective merchandise.

The spectacle at the mall had been so dramatic that many bystanders initially assumed the brand had been shut down by the authorities. Once they learned what had actually happened, everyone agreed that this was the first time they had ever seen such a refreshingly unconventional rich man. Plenty of people suspected it was an advertising stunt, but the sheer domineering extravagance of the move made them want to support the brand anyway. Wen Jingrong’s shopping spree ended up making the company wildly popular.

Shang Ke was arranged on the table together with the other smartpens, row after orderly row, like imperial consorts waiting for the emperor to make his selection.

On the outside, Shang Ke remained cool and aloof. Inside, he was an adorably anxious mess, waiting for his man to prove that among three thousand waters, he would drink from only one ladle.

Just as Shang Ke wondered how they were supposed to recognize each other, Wen Jingrong took out his phone and began searching from the first row of smartpens.

Keke had contacted him by text instead of coming to him directly, which clearly meant something was wrong with his body and he could not move freely. In that case, Wen Jingrong could only use electronic devices to find him.

Holding his phone, Wen Jingrong passed it over the smartpens one by one. When he reached the fourth row, the previously dark screen suddenly lit up.

Wen Jingrong’s breath caught. He stopped the phone above one particular smartpen and asked in a trembling voice, “Keke?”

With a click, the phone unlocked itself. Wen Jingrong felt as though his heart were about to leap from his chest. Fighting to suppress his excitement, he gently picked up the smartpen, cradled it carefully in his palm, and gazed at it with deep affection. “Keke, I finally found you.”

Found your ass! You picked the wrong one! Shang Ke watched Wen Jingrong reach toward him—only to unhesitatingly pick up the smartpen right beside him. Shang Ke’s inner world collapsed. Could this man’s eyesight get any worse?! Where was the promised true love?!

Just as Wen Jingrong was preparing to pour out his heart to the wrong smartpen, his phone furiously demanded attention. A deafening song suddenly blasted through the living room.

“Who’s shameless? You’re shameless. Who’s fickle? You’re fickle. Who cheated? You cheated. Who’s playing the victim? You are… Darling, let me take your heart, liver, spleen, and lungs. Let me drain your essence, spirit, and blood… Ah-woo-oh-eh… I love you so much I’ll leave no corpse or bones behind, love you until flesh and blood are mangled… When I raise your severed head upon the altar, tell me—do you regret it? Regret it, re-re-regret… it…”

Wen Jingrong’s expression cracked: “…”

Shang Ke had downloaded this divine masterpiece for Wen Jingrong on a whim years ago. He had never expected Wen Jingrong to keep it—and right now, it happened to be wonderfully appropriate. (Wen Jingrong: Appropriate my ass!)

Under the song’s relentless looping assault, Wen Jingrong finally realized his mistake. He immediately put down the smartpen in his hand and decisively picked up the real Keke.

The music stopped abruptly. The world fell silent.

“Keke…” At this point, trying to swear his devotion was probably already too late.

Cradled in Wen Jingrong’s palm, Shang Ke comfortably basked in the aura of fortune surrounding him and decided not to hold the man’s terrible eyesight against him. With his consciousness, he typed four Chinese characters onto the phone: 【I’m back.】

Wen Jingrong’s heart tightened. He lowered his head and pressed close to Keke’s pen body. The cool touch of metal made Keke’s existence feel real in a way nothing else could.

Then, as though suddenly remembering something, Wen Jingrong abruptly pulled away and placed Shang Ke on the sofa beside him.

Ruthlessly torn from the embrace of that delicious aura of fortune, Shang Ke could only extend an imaginary Erkang hand and mourn the loss of his meal.

“I know the aura of fortune around me makes you suffer,” Wen Jingrong said gently. “So I’ll try to keep my distance until the day we can truly be together.”

Shang Ke was horrified: No, no, no! I’m not suffering at all! Don’t keep your distance! Let’s love each other like a pair of shameless rabbits in heat!

“Keke, don’t worry. I’ll find a way to get rid of this aura of fortune so it can never hurt you again.”

Good heavens, he wanted to get rid of it too? If you get rid of your aura of fortune, what am I supposed to live on?!

Wen Jingrong paused, then continued, “I remember you once asked me to take you to a prison so you could absorb baleful energy. The environment there should help you recover. I’ll take you tomorrow.”

Shang Ke covered his face: I’m not an evil pen anymore! I don’t need to go to prison!

At the same time, a message appeared on the phone: 【Not going.】

“Why? Is there somewhere more suitable for you than a prison?”

What did he mean, “somewhere more suitable than a prison”? Was he deliberately taking shots at a pen?!

【I’m not going anywhere.】 Shang Ke strained to control his weak consciousness and painstakingly typed, 【I only need to stay beside you.】

Wen Jingrong’s eyes overflowed with tenderness. “Of course you’ll stay beside me. We just can’t be too intimate for the time being.”

Fucking hell. Who had told him about the aura of fortune?!

Shang Ke gathered himself and continued typing: 【I need…】

Before he could finish typing “aura of fortune,” the phone gave a mighty vibration, played a pleasant little chime, then its screen went black as it shut down with elegant finality.

Shang Ke: “…”

Wen Jingrong fetched a handkerchief and gently wrapped Shang Ke inside it.

Shang Ke raged: Don’t wrap me up! Let me run around naked!

Wen Jingrong entered the study and sat in front of the computer. “I need to register my fingerprints with the smartpen. Bear with it for a moment.”

He removed Shang Ke from the handkerchief, unfolded the smartpen, and used a scanner to complete fingerprint verification and identity binding. A smartpen was a traceable input device equipped with both signal and solid ink cores: the former was used for writing on screens, the latter on paper. Once bound to an owner, it could automatically verify identity and handwriting, and only documents signed personally by the registered owner carried legal force.

Smartpens came in countless forms. Shang Ke’s reconstructed body was still a cufflink model—small, delicate, and distinctly modern, though it did not quite match Wen Jingrong’s usual style of dress. Once Shang Ke recovered more strength, however, he would be able to alter his appearance appropriately.

While Wen Jingrong was busy with the identity verification, Shang Ke seized the opportunity to absorb as much aura of fortune as he could.

Just as he became completely lost in the delicious meal, the glow around him dimmed. Wen Jingrong had placed him back on the handkerchief again.

Seeing the man prepare to wrap him up once more, Shang Ke used the strength he had just absorbed to type a line onto the computer with speed, fury, and perfect accuracy: 【I NEED YOUR AURA OF FORTUNE!】

He was not an evil pen anymore. He was a fú pen—a fortune pen!

Three days later, Wen Jingrong, who had skipped work for several days, finally appeared at the company looking so radiantly pleased with himself that he practically came with his own wind machine. He resembled a demon-revealing mirror bright enough to blind dogs, making everyone around him look hideous and positively demonic by comparison.

“Tong Fei, take a few people downstairs and bring up the things in my car,” Wen Jingrong instructed his secretary in an unusually cheerful voice.

“Yes.” Tong Fei stared at his boss in alarm, feeling as though he had wandered into a dream.

Before long, Tong Fei and several others entered the conference room, each carrying a few boxes.

“President Wen, we brought everything up.”

“Mm.” Without looking up, Wen Jingrong said, “It’s a holiday today. Distribute what’s in the boxes to the departments.”

A holiday? Tong Fei hurriedly opened his calendar and found several red characters beneath today’s date: International Aid and Relief Day.

Tong Fei could practically feel the sinister intent radiating from his boss.

Still, an order from the boss had to be carried out to the letter.

Tong Fei and his assistants opened the boxes and discovered that they were filled with brand-new smartpens. That day, every employee at Wenshang Group headquarters received one smartpen in celebration of the glorious International Aid and Relief Day.

After being nourished by Wen Jingrong’s aura of fortune for half a month, Shang Ke was finally able to communicate with him relatively smoothly through text.

Wen Jingrong’s daily routine now consisted of going to work, chatting, and raising Keke. His former two-hundred-percent work efficiency plummeted straight down to a mere one hundred percent.

His secretary often saw the boss staring at the computer with a springtime glow on his face, chatting online with some mysterious person, watching dramas, and playing games. Out of an eight-hour workday, he spent at least four hours slacking off. And yet he still kept the company running perfectly. The only real difference from his former workaholic self was that he now arrived and left on time every day.

“Where do you want to eat today, Keke?” Wen Jingrong asked as he opened the car door.

The phone lit up: 【Baiwei House.】

“All right.” Wen Jingrong started the car and drove toward Baiwei House in high spirits.

【Seat belt.】 Keke reminded him warmly.

Before Wen Jingrong could move, the seat belt fastened itself.

“Thank you, Keke.” Wen Jingrong beamed, feeling as though he had acquired an incredibly considerate little assistant.

【No spicy food today. You seem to be coming down with a cold.】

“Mm.”

【Remember to buy medicine on the way home.】

“Mm.”

The temperature inside the car adjusted itself to the ideal setting, and gentle music began to play.

Settled comfortably in his seat with pleasant music in the background, Wen Jingrong’s entire expression radiated happiness.

His Keke had come back. He was right here beside him.

This time, Wen Jingrong would never let him leave again, nor would he allow him to suffer another injury.

He would use his own aura of fortune to nourish Keke for the rest of his life!
