Chapter 258: Back To That Key Moment ⑩

When Wen Jingrong woke, he found Keke sprawled across him like an octopus. His soft hair carried the warmth of sunlight; his body heat, the texture of his skin, and the steady beat of his heart filled Wen Jingrong’s cold, empty life with vivid color.

Wen Jingrong lowered his head and kissed the man in his arms with aching tenderness, the affection in his eyes deep enough to drown someone.

Perhaps sensing the warmth against his lips, Shang Ke responded unconsciously, chasing the kiss while absorbing the delicious aura of fortune and savoring the sweetness of their intimacy. It was not until his body was filled again and Wen Jingrong began moving him that Shang Ke reluctantly opened his eyes.

Back when he had been an evil pen, lust had been food. Now that he had become a thoroughly righteous little fortune pen, lust had turned into an aphrodisiac that drained his physical strength at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, he could not bear to disperse the wonderful sensations it brought him, so he could only absorb Wen Jingrong’s aura of fortune with everything he had.

Wen Jingrong was naturally delighted by Shang Ke’s closeness. The direct consequence was that he became insatiable and completely forgot the meaning of restraint.

“Enough…” Shang Ke’s voice had gone hoarse. “Don’t you have work today?”

“I’m the boss. I go in whenever I feel like it.” Wen Jingrong was in such a good mood that arrogance leaked naturally into his voice, his whole expression smug with satisfaction.

“Out. Pull out!” Shang Ke planted a foot against his waist and abdomen, only for the movement to give Wen Jingrong the perfect opportunity to thrust deeper. “…Bastard!”

Shang Ke snapped, “Are you pulling out or not?!”

Wen Jingrong leaned down and kissed the tip of his nose. “Be good. One more time. I’ll be gentler.”

“In bed, you have absolutely no credibility.”

“My ‘sexual prowess’ still isn’t enough to satisfy you?” Wen Jingrong said sincerely. “That’s all right. I’ll keep working hard.”

“……KAO!”

“…Fuck!”

Their battle between man and spirit finally ended when Keke was exhausted enough to revert to smartpen form.

Completely satisfied, Wen Jingrong cleaned himself up and left the house with a spring in his step. As he started the car, he made one call after another. “Jac, sell all our shares in Xinhui. Yes, every last one… Don’t ask. I have other plans.”

“Aisai, how is the investigation I gave you? Once you’ve organized everything, send it to my email.”

“Tong Fei, reserve a hotel. We’re having a company gathering tomorrow night… What are we celebrating? What else? International Anti-Monopoly Day, obviously.” (Inside Tong Fei’s head, an entire herd of alpacas thundered past: You monopolistic profiteer have the nerve to celebrate Anti-Monopoly Day?!)

“Junxuan, didn’t you ask me out yesterday? I’m free today. Want to have dinner? You pick the place… Okay, seven o’clock.”

……

…

Shang Ke watched from the sidelines as Wen Jingrong made call after call with almost indecent enthusiasm. Everything he said sounded like legitimate business, yet Shang Ke could not shake the feeling that the man was really announcing to the entire world: After countless days and nights of abstinence, I have finally finished serving my sentence!

Nourished by the aura of fortune, Shang Ke was able to maintain human form for longer and longer periods—from a few hours at first to an entire day or two. His strength rose steadily, and he could occasionally use small spells. During the day, he served as his lover’s portable accessory and all-purpose golden finger. At night, he and his lover conducted intensive “performance-art research.”

Not long afterward, however, Shang Ke worriedly noticed that the aura of fortune around Wen Jingrong seemed much dimmer than before.

An aura of fortune came from the accumulated blessings of one’s ancestors. It was not easy for a living person to build more of it, certainly not just by doing a handful of good deeds. Although Wen Jingrong had been wholeheartedly turning toward charity recently, the rate at which he accumulated new fortune was nowhere near the rate at which Shang Ke consumed it.

If Shang Ke continued absorbing it without restraint, he might damage Wen Jingrong’s future luck. Luck was an elusive thing. It could raise someone to dazzling success or ruin their name and reputation; it could grant fortune and longevity or reduce a person to poverty. Given Wen Jingrong’s ability and wealth, he would probably still live comfortably even without supernatural protection. But an aura of fortune amplified a person’s luck, and unless absolutely necessary, it was best not to squander it.

Shang Ke decided he needed to control his “appetite.”

“Keke?” Wen Jingrong emerged from the bathroom and discovered that Keke was not lying in bed waiting for him as usual. Instead, he remained on the nightstand as one perfectly quiet smartpen.

“I’m going to cultivate properly tonight. Go to sleep early. Good night.” The smartpen flashed several times.

“Mm.” Although Wen Jingrong was mildly disappointed, he did not force the issue. He picked up the smartpen, kissed it, then gently placed it inside the brocade case. “Good night.”

Wen Jingrong assumed this “cultivation” would last only a day or two. Instead, for an entire half month, Keke did not transform into human form even once and remained a smartpen the whole time.

“Keke, did something happen to you?” Wen Jingrong asked anxiously.

“No.” Shang Ke was simply slowing down his cultivation.

“If nothing’s wrong, why aren’t you transforming?”

“Because you need to abstain from sex.”

Wen Jingrong: “…So how long exactly do you intend to make me abstain?”

“Hmm. A month.”

“A month?” Storm clouds gathered across Wen Jingrong’s face. “Too long. I request a twenty-day reduction.”

“If I cut twenty days, what would even be the point of calling it abstinence? No negotiation. One month.” Shang Ke’s tone was firm.

Wen Jingrong looked deeply aggrieved. “Why are you so cruel to me?”

“Because I don’t want to be quite that cruel to myself.”

Wen Jingrong: “…”

After struggling with it all night, Wen Jingrong finally managed to accept reality. Compared with losing Keke forever, what was one month of abstinence? As long as Keke was happy, he was happy.

From that day on, Wen Jingrong developed a new habit: every evening, he drew another large X through the calendar.

When the first month of abstinence finally ended, Wen Jingrong sprang out of bed full of energy. He was about to wish Keke good morning and, incidentally, reserve that evening’s “interactive program” when he discovered that the brocade case was empty. Keke, who should have been lying inside it, was gone!

A note sat on the nightstand: I have something to do outside today. I’ll definitely be back before seven tonight. —Keke

What business could a pen possibly have? And if something really had come up, why had Keke not told him?

Wen Jingrong grew restless. Since his rebirth, this was the first time Keke had left his field of vision.

He opened his phone, checked the tracking function, and quickly locked onto Keke’s location.

Seven Stars Garden? It was a world-famous retirement district, known for its classical architecture and tranquil environment and especially popular among the elderly.

Wen Jingrong got into his car and drove toward Shang Ke’s location.

But Keke’s position did not stay still. After remaining at Seven Stars Garden for about half an hour, he got into a vehicle and traveled somewhere else.

Wen Jingrong kept watching the tracker. From Seven Stars Garden to Fudong District, from Fudong District to Yining Lake, then from Yining Lake to the Legal Affairs Center… In a single morning, Keke practically toured the whole eastern side of the city.

What exactly was Keke doing?

Wen Jingrong parked and strode toward the book café across the street.

His gaze swept across the room, and he quickly found the person he was looking for beside a window.

Shang Ke sat leisurely in an armchair, idly stirring the spoon in his cup while turning pages in a book. His attention, however, was clearly not on the book. His bright eyes kept drifting toward the brown-haired young man beside him.

Wen Jingrong’s face darkened. His icy gaze landed squarely on the young man. Barely passable looks, covered in bookish air—a textbook pretty-boy scholar!

Keke had crossed half the city just to look at him?!

Wen Jingrong’s entire mood collapsed. Flames of jealousy roared inside him.

As though sensing something, Shang Ke turned toward Wen Jingrong.

“Jingrong?” Surprise flashed through his eyes. Then he waved, motioning for him to come over.

Wen Jingrong strode to Shang Ke’s side. His murderous appearance was completely incompatible with the elegant book café, like a bandit wolf charging into a flock of scholarly sheep. His arrogant, overbearing presence could not have been more obvious.

He sat beside Shang Ke and wrapped an arm around his waist in an unmistakably possessive hold.

Most of the people nearby looked over, including the brown-haired young man.

Shang Ke immediately pulled Wen Jingrong to his feet, then smiled at the young man. “It was nice meeting you. Let’s get together again when we have time.”

Get together again? Wen Jingrong forced down his anger and followed Shang Ke out of the café.

“Who was he?” They had barely walked a few steps before someone began his interrogation.

“A friend I just met.”

“What did you come out to do today?”

“Walk around.” Shang Ke answered with complete composure.

“Why didn’t you let me come with you?”

Shang Ke glanced at him, linked an arm through his, and explained with a smile, “I woke up early and didn’t want to disturb you. Besides, you had work, so I came out by myself.”

“Really? That’s all?” Wen Jingrong looked deeply suspicious.

“Of course. What else would it be?” Shang Ke’s expression was perfectly calm, revealing nothing unusual.

Wen Jingrong fell silent. He could not shake the feeling that Keke was hiding something from him.

That night, Wen Jingrong pinned Shang Ke down and fucked him with particular intensity.

“Keke, don’t leave me. Don’t leave…” Even though Shang Ke had already returned to him, Wen Jingrong still had no sense of security. He feared losing him again, feared that all of this was only a dream, and feared most of all that Keke no longer loved him.

Feeling his unease, Shang Ke wrapped both arms tightly around him and whispered into his ear, “I love you, Jingrong.”

Wen Jingrong’s body trembled. The darkness in his eyes gradually dispersed until only tenderness remained…

Three days later, Shang Ke used the phone Wen Jingrong had bought him to call the brown-haired young man.

“Ah, Shang Ke, I remember you. What’s up? Dinner? Sorry, I’m at the airport. I’m about to fly to S City… Haha, my advisor suddenly gave me an assignment yesterday and asked me to give an academic lecture at S University… Mm, yes. Let’s meet when I get back. All right, thanks. Bye.”

After hanging up, Shang Ke inwardly lamented the bad timing.

Wen Jingrong walked in from outside. Seeing the regret on Shang Ke’s face, a dark gleam flashed through his eyes.

Over the next several days, Shang Ke went out a few more times and made quite a few new friends. Yet whenever he tried to arrange another meeting, all kinds of unexpected things got in the way. The only people he consistently managed to meet again were elderly people over fifty.

Shang Ke refused to believe he had affinity only with old people. One or two young, attractive men and women being unavailable could be coincidence, but when four or five in a row all failed to meet him, something was obviously wrong!

“Wen Jingrong.” Shang Ke placed a hand on his shoulder and asked with an exceptionally pleasant smile, “Have you been doing something behind my back?”

“Doing what?” Wen Jingrong naturally wrapped an arm around his waist, his expression perfectly calm.

“You don’t want me making friends?”

Wen Jingrong’s expression did not change. “First tell me why you suddenly became so enthusiastic about making them.”

Shang Ke stared at him quietly for a long moment before finally giving him two words: “It’s secret.”

“Very good.” Wen Jingrong lifted his chin. “Then I’ll continue exercising my rights as a jealous husband and eliminate every unstable factor that might tempt you to climb over the wall.”

Shang Ke: What rights does a jealous husband have, exactly? It was impressive how this man could make pathological possessiveness sound completely righteous…
