Chapter 71: I Am Not A Merman (VIII)
Qin Yuan sat at the water’s edge, unable to tear his gaze away from Flame as he played with Wave in the water.
Transforming into a human had not hindered Flame underwater in the slightest. He swam as gracefully as a mermaid, and the sight made Qin Yuan’s heart itch unbearably. In the end, Qin Yuan stripped off his outer clothes, dove into the water, and chased after him.
Flame turned around, spread his arms, and welcomed him with a smile.
Just as they were about to embrace, Wave abruptly inserted himself between them, blocking Qin Yuan’s path and glaring at him fiercely.
Qin Yuan paid him no attention whatsoever. He caught Shang Ke’s hand and kissed him right over Wave. Wedged between the two of them, Wave angrily thrashed his head and tail, then forced his way upward until he finally managed to separate them.
Qin Yuan’s expression darkened, while Shang Ke was all smiles, his gaze gentle. His soft hair drifted lightly with the shimmering water, making him look almost dreamlike.
Qin Yuan felt deeply that Flame was at his most beautiful in the sea. For as long as he lived, he was willing to give everything he had to protect this ocean for him.
Shang Ke soothed the wildly jealous Wave, then, while the calf was not paying attention, secretly kissed Qin Yuan on the cheek to make up for the kiss that had just been interrupted.
Heat surged through Qin Yuan. He wanted nothing more than to pull Flame into his arms and thoroughly love him. But he still could not be certain whether Flame was willing to “mate” with him. After all, to dolphins, kissing could simply be a gesture of friendliness and did not necessarily mean Flame regarded him as a mate.
That night, Shang Ke sat on the bed hugging a dolphin-shaped pillow, gazing with perfect innocence at Qin Yuan, who wore nothing but a towel. One look at the way the man had not even bothered to cover his chest was enough to tell Shang Ke that he wanted to share his bed. Qin Yuan was merely taking their difference in species into account and worrying about frightening him, so he was trying not to make his improper intentions too obvious.
But Shang Ke had known this man through several lifetimes. How could Qin Yuan’s solemn exterior possibly fool him? For the sake of dolphin dignity, Shang Ke decided he ought to act a little reserved and play hard to get. Once Qin Yuan could no longer endure it, Shang Ke would take him down in one decisive move.
Shang Ke buried his face in the soft pillow and silently gave himself a thumbs-up for his brilliance.
However, he had still overestimated Qin Yuan’s restraint. The man said, “Flame, there’s a small pool in my bathroom. Do you want to play in the water?”
Shang Ke: “…” Don’t think dolphins are that easy to fool! Inviting me to play in the water this late at night—you sure are horny.
Still, as a pure and innocent white lotus, Shang Ke agreed and “unsuspectingly” followed the big bad wolf into the bathroom.
He raised both arms and let Qin Yuan strip him naked, leaving his entire body exposed beneath the man’s scorching gaze. Although his body in this life was somewhat slender, it was beautifully proportioned, with fair, smooth skin. Even Shang Ke himself thought he looked ridiculously gorgeous.
Shang Ke jumped into the pool and happily splashed around in the warm water. Qin Yuan joined him, washing his hair, rubbing his back, and massaging him with extraordinary gentleness and care.
Shang Ke leaned against the edge of the pool, his eyes narrowing comfortably as Qin Yuan kneaded and rubbed his body. Meanwhile, he wondered whether this man really possessed that much self-control—or whether he would eventually lose it and take him right there on the spot.
No sooner had he thought that than the large hands on his body began wandering with obviously improper intentions, roaming over his chest and waist. A heated body pressed tightly against his back, displaying Qin Yuan’s desire without the slightest attempt to hide it.
Around Flame, Qin Yuan felt no need to disguise himself. He wanted only for Flame to accept him, acknowledge him, and ultimately allow himself to be Qin Yuan’s.
“Flame…” Qin Yuan lightly nipped the back of Shang Ke’s neck, his warm breath spilling over his skin and sending a tingling sensation through him.
Qin Yuan turned Shang Ke around and drew him astride his thighs, supporting his waist as he pulled him into a deep kiss.
Shang Ke was kissed until his entire body went weak. A certain someone really does get better at kissing with every lifetime. Can skills like this somehow carry over and accumulate too?
In his growing haze, Shang Ke was gradually worked open by a certain someone. All that talk of restraint and playing hard to get vanished completely beneath his lover’s passionate assault.
Qin Yuan had originally intended only to let him slowly adjust, but as their intimate contact deepened, he too became hopelessly immersed in it. The moment Flame finally relaxed, Qin Yuan followed his instincts, pushed inside him, and thrust hard all the way to the deepest point…
A dolphin’s stamina was truly astonishing. After an entire night of passionate sex, Shang Ke needed only two hours of rest before he was completely revived. Qin Yuan, on the other hand, slept like the dead. Whether he was simply exhausted or far too thoroughly satisfied, Shang Ke wriggled around under the blankets for ages without managing to wake him.
With no other choice, Shang Ke got out of bed on his own, casually pulled on a shirt, washed up, then shuffled out of the room in a pair of slippers.
Once in the kitchen, Shang Ke inspected the refrigerator and found it packed with all kinds of ingredients, some familiar and some not. He took out the ones he had never seen before, opened a virtual cookbook, and began cooking according to the instructions.
Absorbed in cooking, Shang Ke failed to notice Qin Yuan quietly appear in the doorway, watching him bustle around adorably while consulting the recipes.
Shang Ke wore only an oversized shirt, leaving his long, slender legs exposed. Purplish marks dotted his skin, particularly densely along the insides of his thighs.
Qin Yuan’s gaze darkened. He slowly approached, wrapped his arms around Shang Ke’s waist, and murmured, “Good morning.”
Shang Ke was having far too much fun cooking to pay him any attention. He nudged Qin Yuan in the stomach with his elbow, telling him to go stand somewhere else and stop getting in the way.
The rejected President Qin could only retreat obediently and serve as a decorative human statue.
Soon, an appetizing aroma filled the kitchen, and Qin Yuan was astonished to discover that Shang Ke’s dishes looked unexpectedly exquisite. When he had first seen him consulting the cookbook, Qin Yuan had assumed he was merely curious and wanted to try learning human cooking. The recipes contained detailed illustrations and instructions, so he was not surprised that Flame could understand them. But producing food this perfect on his supposed first attempt was genuinely astonishing.
Qin Yuan decided that from now on, he would spend two hours every day teaching Shang Ke various kinds of general knowledge. Judging by the learning and imitation abilities Flame had already demonstrated, his intelligence was unquestionably no lower than that of an ordinary human.
Shang Ke arranged each dish on the table, then waved Qin Yuan over to eat.
Qin Yuan had already prepared himself to finish everything no matter how terrible it tasted. To his surprise, the food was extraordinarily delicious—easily comparable to something made by a professional chef.
Qin Yuan felt that he had struck an unbelievable bargain. Somehow, he had caught himself a dolphin who could grace the drawing room, excel in the kitchen, and satisfy him in bed.
For three days straight, Shang Ke remained in human form. During the day, he kept Wave company; at night, he slept with Qin Yuan. Life was extraordinarily comfortable. With the Main Mission complete, the pressure on him had suddenly eased, so he planned to enjoy himself for a while before worrying about the Additional Mission.
But Flame had been missing for several days. Naturally, the research institute could not simply ignore that. They demanded that Qin Yuan bring Flame back as soon as possible or face legal consequences.
They were desperate to continue studying dolphin genes. Their various biological experiments had already produced highly promising results, convincing them that the key to solving humanity’s reproductive crisis lay with the dolphins.
If Flame remained unavailable much longer, they would probably turn their attention to Wave.
Qin Yuan concealed none of this from Shang Ke and did not ask him to do anything. But Shang Ke knew the matter would have to be resolved sooner or later.
Late one night, Shang Ke woke Qin Yuan and pulled him outside.
“Flame, where are you going this late?” Qin Yuan asked.
Shang Ke did not answer. He simply continued forward, making Qin Yuan unlock every electronic door they encountered.
After walking for a while, Qin Yuan realized where they were headed. “The laboratory is at the end of this corridor. What are you going there for?”
The two entered the laboratory, and the motion-sensitive lights immediately came on. Shang Ke stopped beside one of the instruments and motioned for Qin Yuan to come over.
Qin Yuan approached with a puzzled expression. It was only when Shang Ke held out his arm and picked up the blood-collection equipment that his eyes widened. “You want to…?”
Shang Ke calmly met his gaze. His meaning was unmistakable: he wanted Qin Yuan to collect experimental samples from his body.
All the researchers wanted was to find a solution to humanity’s reproductive crisis through genetic experimentation. As long as they had sufficient experimental material, restricting Flame’s freedom would become far less important—at least for the time being.
Qin Yuan understood what Flame intended. He was deeply moved by Flame’s complete trust and willingness to sacrifice himself—but how could Qin Yuan possibly bring himself to hurt him?
“Qin Yuan…” A soft murmur suddenly sounded through the quiet laboratory.
Qin Yuan’s heart jolted. He snapped his gaze toward Shang Ke. “You… just said my name?”
Shang Ke’s eyes curved with a smile as he said again, “Qin Yuan.”
Qin Yuan immediately pulled him into his arms, an openly delighted smile appearing on his face. “Say it again.”
“Qin Yuan.”
“Haha.” Qin Yuan suddenly felt that his name had never sounded so wonderful. Coming from Flame’s lips, it was practically enchanting enough to steal his soul. He could record it and use it as a siren song.
“Qin Yuan, let’s mate.”
Qin Yuan: “…” Wasn’t that change in direction a little too abrupt?
“We waste a lot of experimental material in the bedroom every night.”
Shang Ke’s speech was becoming more fluent with every sentence, but Qin Yuan’s attention had already been completely captured by the words “mate” and “experimental material.”
He hesitated. “And by ‘experimental material,’ you mean…?”
“Sperm.”
Qin Yuan: “…”
Shang Ke had a very clear sense of his role as an experimental subject. Ever since transforming into a human, he had suspected that the Additional Mission might somehow be connected to dolphin genetics.
Rather than let someone else jerk him off for samples—or let Wave become the experimental subject—he would rather take the initiative himself.
Wave was different from him. Shang Ke possessed a human mind and would not fall into depression simply because he emotionally rejected what was being done. Wave, however, was far more sensitive. Forcing him to do something against his will could cause extreme distress and might even endanger his life.
Sacrificing himself for Wave should count as “heroic,” right?
Seeing Qin Yuan remain completely still, Shang Ke wondered whether his proposal had been a little too shocking.
He looked at Qin Yuan with extraordinary innocence and said calmly, “If you’re unwilling—”
Before he could finish, Qin Yuan abruptly shut off every surveillance device and overhead light, leaving only the dim projection lamp along the wall. He then swept Shang Ke into his arms and gently placed him on the laboratory table.
“Flame, are you ready? I’m going to begin the experiment…” Qin Yuan lightly bit his neck, his voice hoarse.
Beneath the dim light, their heated bodies gradually came together as they diligently “collected” the experimental material…
