Chapter 42.2

“What’s wrong, sunbae ?” I asked, doubtfully. Sunbae rubbed her lips and mumbled in reply.

“Nothing. Just… I suddenly wanted to pull out one of that store’s pillars.”

“What? You can’t do that.”

“I know.”

Where was this sudden desire for destruction coming from?

As I walked down the street, confused, I saw the cutest teddy in one of the stalls. It had gold fur, and was big and fluffy too.

“That is so cute.”

From what I saw, you could get the teddy if you hit it with a slingshot. Oh, but I was no good at games like that. Gloria sunbae glanced at the teddy and asked.

“You want that?”

“Yes. I will give it a try.”

I paid the stall owner and stood in front of the stall. The slingshot seemed too small to hit the teddy, but I thought it would be okay.

“Huh?”

But instead, the small stone I had aimed at the teddy didn’t even get close before it fell to the ground. What the heck? This was definitely a scam.

“Give it here.”

Seeing how disappointed I looked, Gloria sunbae handed the stall owner ajhussi a copper coin, and took the slingshot with heroic spirit. Her eyes sharp, she aimed at the teddy, and a few seconds later, the teddy bear fell sideways.

“Whoa!”

Hold on, what was that?

A blue light shone next to the teddy. I frowned after examining the light.

“ Sunbae , did you just use aura?”

“Uh……”

As Gloria sunbae laughed, I glared at her and called at the stall owner ajhussi who was trying to bring out the teddy.

“Excuse me……!”

“Hey, hey!”

Gloria sunbae stopped my mouth, still laughing.

“Mmphh……!”

“Actually, it’s a scam. Look at how small the slingshot is. And it also seemed like the teddy was held in place with some kind of adhesive.”

“……really?”

I was suspicious, but I finally relaxed.

“And plus, it’s free PR for him.”

Come to think of it, after sunbae succeeded with one shot, it seemed more people were coming to the stall. With a still dull face, I fiddled with the teddy I had now received

But then Gloria sunbae asked awkwardly, “You don’t use magic for things like that?”

“Of course I don’t.”

“Figures. You did seem like the type not to,” sunbae murmured with self-ridicule.

I held the teddy tightly and looked at her. It might have been childish, but I was in a very good mood after receiving the bear.

“……you are a good person, Sunbae ,” I said, fawning over her like a kid whose mother had bought them a toy.

“Ughhhh,” she groaned, before suddenly hugging me tightly. Her platinum hair tickled my neck as it fluttered before my eyes.

What’s going on with her?

I wondered what had gotten into her, as I coughed, unable to breathe because of how tight her arms were.

“You are too cute. Now I want to pull out all the trees by the roadside.”

“……Huh. You would get locked up, then.”

I had thought there was something wrong and had gotten startled. I sighed and shook my head. By now, I had gotten tired of hearing her call me ‘cute’. I wasn’t bragging, truly. I was dead serious.

With the teddy that sunbae had won for me in hand, I rode the carriage with her and arrived at the dorms after the sky had turned dark. Back in my room, I placed the doll carefully on my desk. Since my physical strength was only enough for carrying books and lifting pens, I soon fell flat on my bed, fully exhausted.

During club time, Flora sunbae looked especially happy, more than other days. As I was wondering if something good had happened, she spoke with a giddy smile.

“Because we have more than four people in our club, we were given a budget this time.”

“Oh, really?”

Because our club was a small one, and we neither participated in the school festival nor had any serious expenditure, we had never been allocated any funds. It was welcome news, but what was the money going to be used for? Book purchases? But we have the library, don’t we?

I tilted my head, confused.

But my questions were soon answered.

“But all the books we need are already in the library, and we don’t have anything we need to spend on. So why don’t we buy some snacks instead?” asked Flora sunbae .

Snacks sounded good. I nodded in agreement.

“I think that would be okay.”

“Me too.”

“Then let’s decide who will go buy them with rock, paper, scissors.”

We played rock, paper, scissors as Gloria sunbae suggested, and I lost because I alone played paper.

“I’ll be back soon.”

“I’ll go with……”

Noah sunbae said as he rose, but I stopped him.

“No, I lost, so I will go.”

Behind me, Flora sunbae shouted.

“Buy what you like!”

I zipped the pocket that had the money in it, and headed towards the canteen.

After picking up some snacks that looked tasty, as well as some of my favourites, I saw some mint candy and got those too. I had quite the loot, but there was still half of the money left over.

Then, just as I was walking down the quiet corridors with an armful of snacks:

“Hey, that’s her, right?”

“Oh, yeah.”

I could hear a group of students whispering about me. I wanted to believe I was misunderstanding things, but I was the only one in the corridor.

What’s going on?

As they whispered among themselves and pointed at me, it did not seem at all friendly. Cold sweat ran down my back.
