Chapter 20: Chen Feiyang
Chapter 20: Chen Feiyang
The White Wolf was speechless.
Looking at Su Tan's expression, how could he not know that the other party didn't take the Demon Emperor Forest seriously at all?
He found this human before him increasingly unfathomable!
If you called him ordinary, he indeed seemed quite ordinary. With zero cultivation base, he was a mere mortal. Yet, within the body of this ordinary mortal, a vitality capable of repairing one's origin could be born...
If you called him strong, he was even wary of the mere Celestial Fragrance Empire. If you called him weak... he didn't even take the Demon Emperor Forest seriously.
He was truly impossible to read.
The White Wolf King guessed, "Could it be... he's just like me? He's actually very strong, but something went wrong with his body, reducing him to an ordinary mortal?"
Otherwise, how could such miraculous Vitality Power be born within his body?
Even if beaten to death, the White Wolf wouldn't believe that a mere mortal could produce vitality capable of resolving an origin crisis! How many Great Powers had that very issue driven to despair in the past?
It was safe to say... Su Tan's existence had completely shattered the White Wolf's worldview. But no matter what, this was a good thing for the White Wolf! It gave him hope to survive.
…
Su Tan didn't want to dwell on this matter for too long, so he changed the subject.
"By the way, do you have a name? If not, I can give you one!" Su Tan said, rubbing the little wolf's head.
Being pet like a domesticated animal made the Little White Wolf very uncomfortable, but he couldn't resist.
"For example, what name would you give me?" The White Wolf wanted to see Su Tan's naming skills.
"For example... Rover, Lucky, or even Buster... I've got a knack for naming. Take it from me, these are all excellent names!" Su Tan said.
"Give me a break!" What kind of ridiculous names were those? They sounded completely absurd.
"I have my own name. Peach Branches Swaying!"
"Peach Branches Swaying?" Su Tan thought about it for a moment. It wasn't bad.
"Peach Branches is my surname. Swaying is my given name," the Little White Wolf explained.
"There's actually such a surname in this world?"
"Of course! This surname was bestowed upon us by a supreme powerhouse who happened to pass by the Demon Emperor Forest and saved the ancestor of the Wolf Race!" When the Little White Wolf spoke of his surname, he exuded an indescribable sense of pride. "That was a supreme powerhouse who could pluck the stars and capture the sun and moon with his bare hands. With a mere flick of his finger, he suppressed all the formidable creatures in the entire Demon Emperor Forest..."
"Was he human?" Su Tan asked.
"Not just a simple human. His strength was unmatched in all of history!" the White Wolf corrected. "There's no point telling you all this anyway. My name is Swaying. You can call me Swaying from now on, or Little Swaying!"
"A girl's name?" Su Tan asked casually.
"That's just how you humans think. In our Demon Race, a name is merely a title. My name is Swaying, as in soaring ninety thousand miles into the sky. Isn't that great?"
Su Tan accepted this explanation. However, he wondered if the saying "soaring ninety thousand miles into the sky" actually existed in this world as well. When asked who coined the phrase, Little Swaying didn't know either!
Perhaps it was just a coincidence, Su Tan thought to himself.
Right now, it wasn't the time for him to delve into the Heaven and Earth Dao. He only wanted to live a peaceful, stable life.
Looking at his current situation...
He was almost fully accustomed to his environment. Moreover, with the system and Swaying as his two trump cards, surviving safely in this world wouldn't be a problem for the time being.
Since transmigrating here, Su Tan had never felt so grounded. He had also never truly gotten a good night's sleep.
Tonight, he finally did. He slept soundly. A truly good night's sleep.
He was no longer afraid of the future. Swaying's appearance had given him a sufficient sense of security. Previously, staying within Celestial Fragrance had indeed been safe.
Su Tan's mood improved.
…
The next day.
The early morning was crisp and cool, filled with the slow, melodious chirping of birds.
Su Tan got out of bed and channeled vitality into the White Wolf, improving the White Wolf's complexion slightly. He washed his face, brushed his teeth, and changed into clean clothes.
Only after finishing all this did he step outside, ready to receive customers.
To tell people's fortunes.
If possible, if he saw someone afflicted with an illness, he could also consider treating them. Earning a reward for it would be excellent. Collecting rewards was no longer crucial for Su Tan. Unlike before, when a lack of income meant he might starve to death, he couldn't possibly starve now that he had the White Wolf.
The White Wolf's strength was right there. Furthermore, this was a world that respected strength above all else. That made starving to death even more impossible.
What Su Tan was thinking about now was how to better improve his quality of life. He had also thought about enjoying endless wealth and partying every night. But that wasn't the kind of life he liked. Wealth, women... he didn't want to numb himself with such things.
During this time, Su Tan had adapted to the life of a blind man. In truth, not being able to see was quite nice.
At least he didn't have to witness the world's filth and treachery. At least he wouldn't overlook the beautiful things around him. It allowed his restless heart to settle and quietly experience every inch of the land...
It was quite nice.
The world held countless beauties, yet also countless frustrations. Looking at the world from a different perspective was quite nice.
"Master Su, Su, I'd like to ask you to read my fortune. I want to cultivate. I want to become an Immortal! Please tell me where I can find a serendipitous encounter!" Seeing Su Tan open his fortune-telling stall, a young boy around thirteen or fourteen was the first to run over, carrying a basket of eggs in his hands.
"You have to tell me! I've been waiting in line for half a month, and today is finally my turn!" the boy pleaded.
"You are..." Su Tan sat up straight.
"Chen Feiyang?"
"Yes, yes, yes, it's me, it's me!" Chen Feiyang nodded eagerly.
Su Tan had always heard people mention Chen Feiyang. He heard that this boy's parents had died when he was young. Then, at the age of eleven, the grandfather he depended on for survival was attacked and killed by wild beasts in the wilderness, leaving the boy completely alone in the world.
He didn't have any talent for cultivation, yet he constantly fantasized that one day he would skyrocket to success and become a Cultivator. He rambled like a madman, refused to do physical labor, and lived in poverty, acting as if he had become obsessed.
The reason Su Tan knew of this boy's existence was because of his bizarre quirks, which made him a frequent subject of the villagers' gossip and ridicule. Both adults and children used him as a negative example.
"Master, can you read my fortune? I'll give you all my eggs!" Chen Feiyang asked.
"Three fortunes a day. You're the first one today, so of course I can!" Su Tan said.
Every day, he would tell fortunes for people like this. In the past, however, his goal had been merely to earn enough to feed himself. Today was a bit different; he was much more relaxed, and his whole demeanor had taken on an air of refinement.
Sure enough... only when a person's stomach was full could they think about other things.
"I just want to know, do I have an Immortal destiny? Where can I find an Immortal destiny?" Chen Feiyang's goal was very clear. He simply wanted to cultivate.
Given his talent and wealth, however, unless a serendipitous encounter fell straight from the heavens, it was absolutely impossible for him to get that chance!
"Then I will read your fortune..." Su Tan said.
He reached out and pressed his finger against the center of Chen Feiyang's brows.
In an instant, Chen Feiyang's past, as well as everything he would encounter over the next three days, surfaced before Su Tan's eyes. As expected, this kid harbored a deep-seated obsession with cultivation. Su Tan saw scenes of him defying hardships, braving the bitter cold and scorching heat, giving it his all...
After watching all of it, Su Tan had to admit that this was a truly ruthless kid!
However, fate seemed to love playing jokes. Both Chen Feiyang's past and future appeared to be already set in stone—he wouldn't achieve much.
Such was the nature of fate. Su Tan had already gained some insights into fortune-telling. Even though he couldn't see anything beyond three days into the future, if a person's fate was far too ordinary, they truly wouldn't achieve anything significant...
"Sigh..." Su Tan shook his head. Just as he was about to advise Chen Feiyang to let go of his obsession and focus on farming, he saw something interesting.
"Huh?" A bizarre expression appeared on his face.
