Chapter 66
Chapter 66
Chapter 66 Lu Xiaoli
“Name it?”
Lu Qing wiped his hands.
“Yes, the little beast is our friend. My friends all have names, like Big Girl, Second Girl, and Little Tiger Head—they all have their own names!” Xiaoyan counted on her fingers earnestly, “So the little beast should have a name too.”
“Wouldn’t it be nice to just call it Little Beast?”
“Little Beast doesn’t sound nice, and lots of animals are little beasts. We need to give it a unique name.” The little creature shook his head.
Lu Qing wanted to say that names like Big Girl and Second Girl were actually a dime a dozen out there.
He thought for a moment and saw the black little beast peeking in from outside the kitchen.
He asked, “Little thing, what do you think? Do you want a name too?”
The black little beast’s eyes flashed with thought, and then he nodded.
“Brother, look, the little beast wants a name too,” Xiaoyan said happily. “
Since that’s the case, then let’s give it one.”
Seeing that the black little beast also wanted this, Lu Qing stopped refusing.
But what name would be good?
Lu Qing pondered for a moment, and suddenly an idea struck him.
“How about calling it Xiaoli?”
“Xiaoli?” Xiaoyan tilted her head.
Puzzlement also appeared in the black beast’s eyes.
Clearly, neither of the two little creatures understood the meaning of the name.
“Yes, the little beast looks a lot like a civet cat, so we call it Xiaoli. And the character li is associated with fire. Look at its fur. Doesn’t it look a bit like burning black flames?”
Lu Qing explained as he took a piece of charcoal and wrote the word li on it.
After studying for this period of time, he had basically mastered the writing of this world’s language.
Xiaoyan didn’t know if she understood, but after hearing Lu Qing’s explanation, the black beast immediately felt that the name Xiaoli was very noble.
It stared at Lu Qing intently, its eyes gleaming.
“Do you like this name?” Lu Qing saw its expression and immediately understood. “Then you’ll be called Xiaoli from now on. As for a surname, it’s up to you if you want one or not. If you want one, you can take ours and call yourself Lu Li or Lu Xiaoli.”
“Great, little beast, you have a name!” Xiaoyan said happily. “Your name is Xiaoli, and mine is Xiaoyan. Our names are very similar.”
The black beast’s eyes sparkled with emotion.
With a name, the black beast’s move into the Lu family became much smoother.
It and Xiaoyan began to chase each other around the house.
Of course, it was mainly Xiaoli who was teasing Xiaoyan; otherwise, with its speed, even a hundred Xiaoyans wouldn’t be able to touch it.
“By the way, Xiaoli, I have a question for you.”
Seeing the black beast enjoying itself, Lu Qing suddenly remembered something.
Xiaoli stopped and looked at Lu Qing.
“Did someone chase you in the mountains yesterday, trying to capture you?”
Lu Qing recalled the conversation he had overheard among the Wei family guards last night.
It was said that their young master accidentally fell into the valley while chasing a strange black beast in the mountains.
At that time, he had some doubts whether the beast was Xiaoli, and now was a good time to ask.
Xiaoli tilted his head to think about it, then nodded.
“Are there six or seven people who want to catch you? One of them is about the same age as me?”
Xiaoli nodded again.
Lu Qing was sweating. It was really this guy.
His expression suddenly became serious: “Xiaoli, you stay in the house recently and don’t go out. If other people come, find a place to hide and don’t let others see you, okay?”
Xiaoli nodded.
It doesn’t like to see other people anyway.
Lu Qing turned around and warned his sister: “And Xiaoyan, when you go outside, you are not allowed to tell anyone about Xiaoli’s stay in our house, not even to your friends. Otherwise, Xiaoli will probably be caught by others, and then you will never see Xiaoli again, understand?”
“Xiaoyan knows! Xiaoyan, don’t tell anyone about Xiaoli!”
Upon hearing that she might never see Xiao Li again, the little girl’s face tightened and she answered seriously.
She had finally become Xiao Li’s friend, and she didn’t want to lose him.
Seeing Xiao Yan agree, Lu Qing finally relaxed a little.
The little girl was still very tight-lipped, and he was always relieved by that.
Just like how they had so much silver at home, he had warned her not to tell anyone else about it, and until now, she hadn’t let a peep out.
It wasn’t that Lu Qing was being overly serious.
Although the young master Wei had fallen into the valley on his own, it was ultimately Xiao Li’s fault.
He had nearly died this time, and even if he’d recovered, his health would have been severely damaged, and he would likely need many precious medicinal herbs to recover.
After such a disaster, who could say he wouldn’t resent Xiao Li? It was
fine if he hadn’t seen Xiao Li, but if he had, he’d probably do whatever it took to capture him and seek revenge.
Lu Qing remembered that the young master’s personality wasn’t very kind.
Although Xiao Li was a red-light spirit beast, and according to his assessment of its abilities, it was on the same level as a Neigu Realm cultivator
, Lu Qing didn’t think it could defeat the Wei family’s guards in a real fight.
Humans possessed countless combat methods, and their minds were even more cunning than a mere spirit beast could comprehend.
Furthermore, the Wei family’s chief steward was also a martial arts expert at the Neigu Realm.
With this in mind, it seemed best for Xiao Li to remain in hiding for the time being, avoiding any contact with the Wei family.
In fact, Lu Qing wanted Xiao Li to retreat into the mountains, away from this area for a while, until the Wei family had left.
But seeing it spend the night on the rooftop, willing to wait for a meal, he knew Xiao Li had already considered the area its territory.
Getting it to leave would be difficult.
If it succumbed to the temptation of the fish and sneaked back here again, as it had done today, the risk of being exposed would be even greater.
It was better to keep it at home and hide for the time being.
Later, through further questioning, Lu Qing learned that Xiao Li’s parents were not nearby.
It was the only Night Lizard in the vast mountains.
It didn’t even know how it came to be there.
All it knew was that it had lived there since it regained consciousness, albeit in a different area. It
had recently wandered to the mountainous area behind Jiuli Village.
With this knowledge, Lu Qing could finally rest assured that Xiao Li would stay, no longer worrying about two mature Night Lizards suddenly appearing and demanding revenge.
And so, Xiao Li officially moved into Lu Qing’s home.
Now that Young Master Wei’s injuries had stabilized, Lu Qing no longer had to guard the small courtyard halfway up the mountain.
His life had returned to its usual rhythm.
Every morning, he would pay his respects to his master in the courtyard, study medicine for a morning, and then have the rest of the day to himself:
fishing, gardening, and martial arts training.
For Xiao Li, these days were undoubtedly blissful.
Every day, he would be the first to eat the fresh fish Lu Qing caught, and the taste was simply divine.
Afterward, Xiao Yan would give him massages and tickles.
These days were far more comfortable than his life back in the mountains.
Xiao Li didn’t want to leave at all, he just wanted to stay at home like this forever.
Days passed, and Lu Qing’s worry that Xiao Li would be discovered by others never happened.
And that young master Wei, under the careful treatment of the old doctor, was getting better at a speed visible to the n*ked eye.
Finally, on the seventh day after young master Wei woke up, he was able to get out of bed and walk.
This also meant that he could withstand the bumps on the road and set off to return to the Wei family.
