Chapter 18.2

The garden was quieter than last time, probably because there was a political meeting now. It was still splendid and beautiful.

The garden, which sublimated quietness along with beauty, made me feel good again.

“There’s really no one here.”

I liked the serenity of it.

It was so serene that it was like no one seemed to be looking for us. It made me feel better.

After jumping on the spot a couple of times, I looked at the flowers around me one by one.

“Come to think of it, I think the number of yellow flowers has increased, especially here!”

Now that I came, all the broken flowers were fresh again.

Even strangely, there were a lot of yellow flowers around it.

“I know. I think they planted a new flower.”

“I see. You know what? Cecilia, I like yellow flowers the best.”

“Why?”

“They look like my mom.”

My mother was just like that. She also resembled a shining yellow star, and a fragrant yellow flower.

She was a person who shone brilliantly. Every time I saw those yellow flowers, I thought of my mother.

“This flower is called Freesia. You can only see in spring.”

When I sat in front of a flower that is exceptionally noticeable among them, Cecilia sat next to me in the same position as I did, and brought out the basket.

“The flower symbolizes a new beginning.”

“A new beginning…”

“I think it’s a perfect flower for you two.”

“Yes! I’ll take this one.”

As soon as I finished speaking, I picked those pretty flowers one by one. One by one, I put the prettiest and largest one in the basket.

Cecilia sat next to me as if she was giving me a chance to pick the flowers by myself and organized the basket.

It took longer, but the load doubled.

Sweat dripped from my forehead thanks to the warm sun, and the basket was still not full for a long time. Still, I felt good.

It really was a great day today.

“If you’re tired, can I help you?”

“No! I’m going to do it alone. I’m almost done.”

“I’m afraid you’ve been sitting under the sun way too long.”

I acted greedy even though I had heard her words of concern. I wanted to bring my own flowers to my mom.

But there was always an end to every work.

After nearly half an hour, I was able to fill the basket.

Fresh and pretty flowers resembling my mother filled the basket as if they were showing off their colors.

“I’m done!”

“Well done.”

“Okay! Let’s go back now.”

“Okay!”

I was less anxious when I picked flowers, but after picking them, I felt an unknown anxiety. As a result, I jumped up to get out of the garden quickly.

This was not because I’m afraid of Harris.

‘I don’t want to be bothered by someone who hates me.’

There was no one in the world who liked me.

It’s just that there are people who madly hated me and people who hated me less. There were a few people in this castle who hated me so much and one of those people was Harris.

It wouldn’t matter if we didn’t see each other often like Lexit, but I could sense that I was going to see more of Harris.

‘That’s why we should avoid her at all costs.’

Suddenly, as if I briefly forgot my thoughts, the surroundings suddenly became noisy.

“Uuuugggggghhhh!!!”

As soon as I heard someone screaming, Cecilia hurriedly hugged me, putting the basket she was holding on the floor.

She was trying to protect me, but it caught my eye where the disturbance was occurring.

The Grand Duke was dragging someone out.

There were people around him who stopped him, and sometimes, I could hear someone’s sad voice. Because of the large building surrounding the garden, I could only speculate that the person might be dragged out by the Grand Duke during the political meeting.

In the meantime, the appearance of the person from the inside was clearly visible.

A man was wearing a ragged blue uniform. I presumed that he looked tidy before, but now I could see that he was lightly struggling against the Grand Duke.

“G-Grand Duke! Y-Your Highness!”

“I’m sure I told you before. Don’t argue about my decision, even once.”

“Th-This all for your own sake, Y-Your Highness.”

With those words, the Grand Duke released the man he held by the collar.

Thanks to this, the man’s body fell to the floor like a piece of paper.

Nevertheless, the Grand Duke looked down at the man without mercy.

“Saying it’s for my sake. You’re really talking nonsense.”

“Your Highness!”

“You are too loud, too loud enough to make my ears ache. I don’t want to hear your voice, so get out this instant or I’ll cut off your tongue and confiscate all of your family’s property.”

“Well, it’s not fair of you to say that. I have devoted myself to the Grand Duke of Aveland for generations! F-For y-you to d-do this to m-me…!”
