Volume 4, Chapter 10-3 – My Chastisement Spirit Colleagues Are All Loyal and Righteous!
Stella looked around.
She alone occupied almost half the courtyard of Blood Demon Manor. If she and Veronica started fighting directly inside the manor, they would flatten the place in minutes.
And Lainia was still down below.
Stella really didn’t want to end up carrying a bucket and a shovel to scrape her off the ground afterward.
She absolutely could not demolish her own property herself.
In short, they couldn’t have a huge fight inside Blood Demon Manor. She needed to take this bristling cat out into the wilderness and deal with her there.
Stella’s gaze fell on Veronica’s back.
Veronica’s bat wings were still incomplete.
Although the crystals and gemstones filling the gaps radiated dazzling light, Stella had no doubt that after transforming into a dragon, Veronica had lost the ability to fly.
But Stella was different.
Stella slightly stretched her back. Her enormous pale dragon wings slowly unfurled, truly vast enough to blot out the sky and cover the sun.
Right then, Stella noticed Veronica’s chest swelling once again.
She took a deep breath. The surrounding temperature abruptly soared, and dark crimson light gathered in her throat.
‘Again?’
Stella wasn’t about to give Veronica the chance.
She lunged straight forward. One enormous dragon claw seized Veronica’s forelimb while the other locked around her back. Stella forcibly hauled Veronica, who was a full size larger than herself, off the ground and shot straight into the clouds.
Veronica instantly lost her balance and struggled furiously, trying to bite Stella’s neck. But Stella merely flapped her bat wings hard a couple of times, and Veronica’s resistance became nothing more than futile flailing.
The wind howled past Stella’s ears as Nightmare Street spread out beneath her feet. The brightly illuminated streets, crooked buildings, ghostly lanterns floating in midair, and the demons moving through the night all became tiny points of light.

Stella looked down over the entirety of Nightmare Street. She felt as though she’d become a kite, flying higher and higher, farther and farther.
No wonder the Samaels were always looking down on the other races. The dragon transformation of dragon-type demons really did give them the capital to be arrogant.
And the feeling of looking down upon all living beings truly was addictive.
Stella didn’t spend long marveling at it. She found a barren patch of wasteland outside Nightmare Street, loosened her dragon claws, and simply tossed Veronica downward like garbage.
Boom—!
Veronica’s dragon body slammed heavily into the ground. The earth trembled and dust billowed everywhere, but she got back up almost immediately. Rage burned in her golden eyes as she pounced toward Stella once again.
Stella merely gave her dragon wings a gentle flap. With an imperious bearing, she spread her streamlined bat wings and glided in a wide circle, easily avoiding Veronica’s pounce.
Immediately afterward, Stella folded her wings and dove downward, hurling her power-packed body into Veronica like a meteor.
Boom—!
Another thunderous crash.
Veronica was knocked onto her back and rolled several times across the ground before smashing through a massive boulder.
Confusion, anger, fear, and grievance piled up bit by bit, seemingly ready to spill from her golden eyes.
After suffering setback after setback, Veronica finally couldn’t endure it anymore. She raised her dragon head and once again took a deep breath. The light in her throat lit up once more, and her chest expanded to an unprecedented degree.
‘Dragonfire?’
‘This move again.’
Stella landed not far away and tilted her dragon head.
‘If Veronica could use dragonfire, why couldn’t I try it too?’

They were out in the wilderness now anyway. She didn’t need to worry about burning down her house.
Stella tried taking a deep breath as well.
The seven streams of dragon-type demon essence inside her body simultaneously began to boil. Blood surged through her vessels, and her heart pounded like a war drum.
Something was gathering in her throat, brewing and expanding.
Steaming, suffocating, ferocious, oppressively stifling, like the blazing sun itself.
The next moment, two torrents of dragonfire erupted simultaneously and collided above the wasteland.
Scorching waves of heat spread outward in every direction. The surrounding rocks began to melt, the ground cracked apart, and charred marks spread wildly like oil boiling furiously inside a wok.
Evenly matched?
No…
Stella narrowed her dragon eyes.
Her dragonfire didn’t seem able to hold out.
The disadvantage of her smaller body was completely exposed. Her dragonfire was being pushed back inch by inch.
‘Hmm…’
‘Could it be that my lung capacity wasn’t enough?’
Veronica’s dragonfire drew closer and closer as Stella rapidly thought things through.
‘What should I do now?’
Pure dragonfire apparently couldn’t win. So could she add something extra?
Stella thought back to when she’d burned the Dragon Attendants with black flames.

The flames burning from her shadow had fused the essence of Mia, the Lord of Blood, with the Valentine bloodflame. That stuff could even burn through dragon scales. What would happen if she mixed the black flames into her dragonfire?
She had a whole pile of strange abilities anyway. It would be a waste not to use them.
Stella willed it.
“Burn.”
The shadow beneath her feet instantly began to boil.
Although she was currently in dragon form, her shadow was still there.
Blood and shadow ignited from nothing. Black and crimson flames intertwined like maggots clinging to bone, merging into Stella’s dragonfire almost instantly.
Veronica was sharply startled.
She discovered in horror that Stella’s dragonfire had almost instantly transformed entirely into black flames.
The interwoven black and crimson fire surged toward her with overwhelming force.
Closer.
Closer.
It was about to swallow her whole.
Veronica wanted to dodge, but it was already too late.
Fear forcibly awakened a brief moment of clarity in her.
For the first time since her birth, Veronica tasted the flavor of death with such unmistakable clarity.
‘Dear Mama, I must have caused you so much trouble today.’

She thought to herself.
‘I’m truly very sorry.’
Veronica felt that her apology sounded terrifyingly hypocritical, as though she were apologizing only so that she herself could obtain redemption.
Even now, she was still trying to save herself… Just how far would she fall… How far down did she have to fall before she finally reached the bottom…
Without saying a single word, Veronica let her soul surge outward like a river. Deep within her heart, sorrow, grievance, resignation, and tears intertwined like an open storybook.
She abandoned prayer and imagined a humbler plea, a plea for the end, a plea for death.
She didn’t want power. She didn’t want to lose control.
She wanted love. She wanted poetry and fairy tales. She wanted genuine bonds. She wanted innocence. She wanted kindness.
So many times, she had wished someone would simply say to her, ‘I’ll hold you, and then you’ll be okay.’
‘I’m sorry, Mama.’
‘Veronica only wanted to be a good child.’
