Volume 1, Chapter 70 – Book Demon

Dark ink spread across the title page, each character dancing gracefully.

As the second daughter of the Bledia family, the “Book Demon” family renowned throughout the Abyss for recording history, Remedios had always been in the habit of writing down everything that happened around her.

Compared with ruins weathered by countless storms, written records possessed a more mature beauty, like golden autumn.

Because they formed a system of their own, spreading accounts of events throughout the world while protecting them from the erosion of time.

Yet precisely because history books spoke of events that would never happen again, bloody years were transformed into words, theories, and academic discussions. They became lighter than a feather and no longer inspired fear.

What the Bledia family recorded, however, was the true history that had been concealed.

And history could never be separated from war.

Ever since becoming an apprentice Book Demon as a child, Remedios had followed her elder sister to every corner of the Abyss, recording history and witnessing conflicts both large and small.

Unlike her elder sister, Remedios liked war.

She liked watching powerful demons clash against one another. She liked watching the art of strategy and conquest unfold.

Torture, slaughter, disease, exhaustion, killing, blood, flames of war, smoke, chaos…

She had witnessed fifty-one wars in total.

That was hardly unusual in the lands of the Abyss, for soil deprived of sunlight was destined to be barren.

Demons fought one another over wealth, resources, slaves, or grudges passed down across generations. Demonkind gradually declined, its strength continuously drained by countless small conflicts that never truly ceased.

Until her elder sister was struck by an unheard-of curse while investigating a secret.

A horrific yet dazzling green light.

A shriek that tore at the soul.

It struck her elder sister directly.

There was no blood and no wound.

Her elder sister had not died, yet neither was she alive.

She was like an exquisite porcelain vessel whose soul had been emptied in an instant. She still breathed, her heart still beat, but the radiance that belonged to the self had been erased in a single moment.

From a living recorder of history, she had become a blank page from which every word had been washed away.

Regarding that curse, Remedios had searched through the entirety of History of Dark Cursecraft, yet found only a few scattered lines.

The book described it as an execution decree originating from an ancient Archdemon, whose nature was to grant its victim eternal emptiness and oblivion.

Remedios had tried every traditional method of dispelling curses.

Nothing had worked.

There was only one path she had yet to try.

A human Saintess.

Women revered almost as gods by the Holy See.

The pure Holy Light flowing within their bodies was not merely a lethal poison to magical creatures deeply corroded by the Abyss. It was also the only universal remedy in the world.

Ancient texts recorded that the flesh, blood, and souls of Saintesses were crystallizations of light.

There was no need for some elaborate corruption ritual. Even if they were used merely as sacrificial offerings or living materials, their incomparably pure Holy Light could fill the emptiness of a soul, reconstruct an exhausted bloodline, and even forcibly reverse ancient decrees that left even Archdemons helpless.

At the same time, it was also a forbidden supplement coveted by every high-ranking demon.

Unfortunately, Saintesses had always been among the Holy See’s most tightly guarded strategic resources.

Every one of them remained deep within the heavily defended Holy City, under strict protection and supervision. Throughout their entire lives, they would scarcely have a chance to set even half a foot into the Abyss.

Trying to find traces of one in the Demon Realm was nothing short of a fool’s dream.

But Remedios believed that one day, it might not be impossible.

Because she had an accomplice helping her.

A genius succubus with an extraordinary side to her, whose talents seemed like an endless treasure trove merely waiting to be unearthed.

Remedios Bledia unfolded a sheet of paper, intending to record what she had seen and heard today.

She first wrote several words across the page.

Stella’s Struggle.

But when the tip of her pen reached the surname, her wrist paused slightly.

Then she wrote “Valentine.”

【Stella Valentine delivered A Manifesto Against the Electors at the Lionheart Society. This was completely different from the fifty-one conflicts I participated in recording in the past. She promised no money and incited no hatred. Instead, she attempted to plant the concept of change within the souls of the succubi.】

【Considering Stella’s status as an illegitimate daughter of the Valentine family, I can infer that in order to oppose the Electors, her next step will inevitably be attempting to seize Cheryl Valentine’s right of inheritance. The two of them will very likely conduct a bloody Laxia Ritual. In order to optimize their bloodline, they spare no effort and almost completely imitate the law of the jungle in the animal kingdom. This is precisely why the Valentine family is known as a family of lunatics.】

【Furthermore, regarding the “bloodflame” Stella displayed during her duel with Cheryl, I spent the entire day searching the library today and found nothing. The only text mentioning remotely similar characteristics consisted of a few lines of nonsense from the Demon Realm gossip magazine Prophet Weekly.】

【”—At the end of Eternal Night, the Pale Daughter who burns with a blood-red shadow shall become a solar crown.”】

【A bizarre prophecy that is completely impossible to interpret. Only an unofficial publication like Prophet Weekly would publish such incomprehensible content. However, when official history can trace something no further, unofficial history often conceals the truth.】

【In short, I am currently experiencing a silent war. And I, Remedios Bledia, have the honor of becoming the sole recorder of this magnificent epic, and its accomplice!】

“Stella, just what does the grand blueprint you’ve planned look like?” Remedios murmured.

She watched ink drip from the tip of her pen onto the pure white page, spreading into little blotches.

Knock, knock, knock.

A slightly hurried knock suddenly sounded at the door.

“Remedios, it’s me. Open the door!”

—————

Stella was a little panicked.

She had thought she was merely dropping by someone’s room. At worst, she would encounter a few bizarre students.

Instead, the moment she stepped into the common room of the House of Terror and Slaughter, the stench of blood that hit her nearly sent her straight to the afterlife.

Where the House of Domination had placed a cozy fireplace and sofas, this place had installed a gigantic fighting ring.

Two succubus students were beating the hell out of each other on top of it, every punch landing solidly against flesh as blood sprayed everywhere like it cost nothing. A ring of fanatical students surrounded them, cheering wildly.

The most outrageous part was the school doctor waiting beneath the ring.

The moment someone collapsed with severe injuries, the school doctor would immediately rush over and drag them away like a dead dog, then pour strong medicine straight down their throat. As long as they had not stopped breathing, that counted as saving them.

Then the next pair of students, already unable to wait, would immediately leap into the ring and continue fighting.

Now Stella finally understood why the school infirmary was right next door to the House of Terror and Slaughter.

Stella pounded hard on Remedios’ door.

Thank goodness everyone else’s attention was elsewhere. Otherwise, if someone recognized her face-to-face, she might already have been dragged over and used as a punching bag.

Click.

It finally opened.

Without saying another word, Stella slipped inside, then swiftly locked the door behind her in one seamless motion.

“Phew… Thank goodness no one saw me.”

Stella leaned against the door and let out a long sigh of relief.

“Good evening, Stella. Is something the matter?”

Remedios sat at a desk piled high with books. She set down her quill, her expression calm and elegant.

Under the light of the demon crystal lamp, Stella subconsciously swept her gaze around the top student’s dormitory.

Everywhere she looked, parchment lay scattered across the floor. The walls were covered in maps filled with complicated red lines and annotations, while mountains of manuscripts teetered precariously atop the desk.

Stella casually glanced at the titles of several manuscripts closest to Remedios’ hand.

《Strategic Conception and Simulation of a Blitzkrieg Invasion of the Human Realm (7th Revised Edition)》

《Establishment and Framework of Slave-Catching Units, On the Capture and Rearing of High-Ranking Clergy》

《Feasibility Analysis on Converting Lilith’s Abandoned Cellars into an Arsenal》

《Lionheart Society, Evolution of the Club Platform and the Prototype of a Future Political Party》

‘Wait, what the hell are you secretly writing all day long?!’

Translator Note

HAHAHA Stella jumped into the politics without her knowing about it at all xD
