The specific words of the spell, the honorific name of the God they were trying to borrow power from, and the mana reserves inside their body.

There was also a point about how important a Witch's voice was. While saying the words needed for a spell, the sound had to come out right.

In a way, as Magna understood it, voice and chanting words worked together as one technique.

With the sound, Witches stirred the mana inside them and made it move through their bodies and the world around them. 

At the same time, through the honorific names, they were asking permission from the God, using that God's authority to turn their mana into the element needed for the spell they wanted to cast.
