Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Yun Duo, We’re Moving House
The two deputy commanders who had been called out quickly accepted their orders, each leading two teams and sprinting away in opposite directions.
After quickly arranging an escort to take Feng Si to Pantian City, Xi Zhu had to remain behind. Despite the unexpected discovery of an unrecorded "female" in Nantong City, he had no orders from the King and had to continue the systematic search.
Feng Si turned her head and glanced at the orderly team following behind her, but said nothing to refuse them.
With her hand in her pocket, she strode down the stairs, her fingertips occasionally stroking Yun Duo’s back.
Accustomed to being lulled to sleep this way by his mother, Yun Chi struggled to keep his eyes open. In the end, he couldn’t fight off the post-meal drowsiness. He closed his eyes and drifted off, his belly up and his little paws clutching tightly to his mother’s finger, refusing to let go.
Feng Si kept her hand beside Yun Duo and let out an imperceptible sigh of relief.
’Good. When Yun Duo accidentally summoned them, it more or less forced things to go the way I’d planned.’
’The blood test can be delayed. This way, I can avoid being taken by some powerful figure to be tested for compatibility with a male beast. I definitely don’t want a "husband" forced on me.’
Feng Si raised an eyebrow, ignoring the warriors behind her, and headed for her own fly-car, intending to go home. Yang Wen, who had been hiding in a dark corner the whole time, couldn’t hear what she was saying. But he had eyes, and he stared in utter shock at Feng Si, who had suddenly been revealed as a female.
Well, I’ll be damned!
’Feng Si is a female? And an Admiral, a male beast of his stature, is personally assigning her an escort? Who in the world is she?’
’How could the world change so much in half a day?!’
Seeing her about to reach the fly-car, Yang Wen stumbled for a moment before breaking into a jog to catch up with Feng Si.
When he was less than two meters away, Xi Zhongsong, who was walking beside Feng Si, blocked his path.
His gaze was sharp. With short gray hair cut close to the scalp and gray eyes to match, he shot Yang Wen a piercing look. "What do you want?"
"I..." Yang Wen shuddered, a painful pressure building in his bladder. He’d nearly pissed himself in fear.
Feng Si, standing in the center of a group of tall, burly male beasts, heard the commotion and turned. She waved a hand at Xi Zhongsong. The man, who had been as intimidating as a wild beast moments before, obediently took a step to the side, though his gaze never left Yang Wen.
Cold sweat broke out on Yang Wen’s face. Facing the pack of fierce, watchful eyes behind him, he stood trembling and stammered in a low voice,
"L-Lady... all the food from Si Shi has been looted. Should we retrieve it now?"
"Oh—" Feng Si drew out the sound, her expression one of sudden realization.
A relieved smile couldn’t help but spread across Yang Wen’s sweaty face.
’It was unbelievable that Feng Si was a female, but her current status... it was far greater than any sub-female’s! Didn’t you see? Even the Vice Admiral of the Second Legion was at her beck and call.’
’With Feng Si on our side, we can definitely get all of Si Shi’s food back from the Beihuang Warriors. That means I won’t have to face the City Lord’s punishment!’
’Most importantly, I won’t have to worry about retaliation from the young masters of the Northern Wilderness, because Si Shi belongs to Lady Feng Si!’
’This is perfect!’
Yang Wen was gloating on the inside.
Outwardly, his face was a mask of reverence. He asked humbly, as if she were the center of his universe, "Shall I send my men over to move the food back to the warehouse?"
"Go ahead and call them," Feng Si said with a sweet smile. "But let me give you a friendly reminder: I gave all of Si Shi’s food to the Admiral. If you want to move it, you’d better ask him first."
Yang Wen practically heard the string of hope snap inside his head.
He looked up toward the lift and saw a group of men carrying wooden crates out.
Weren’t those the very crates of pickled cabbage from Si Shi!
Yang Wen was dumbfounded. "I... how am I supposed to report this to the City Lord... WAHHH..."
"Just tell him the truth."
Turning away, Feng Si pulled open the door to her fly-car, casting a nonchalant glance at the weeping Yang Wen.
’This sheep was far from innocent. As the Chief Steward of the Nantong City Lord Mansion, I didn’t see him crying when he was throwing females and sub-females to a pack of male beasts, did I?’
’No need to feel sorry for him at all.’
Feng Si climbed into her small fly-car and set the route for home. Like a steel bird, the vehicle took flight, heading from the East District toward the North City District.
Below her fly-car, a pack of giant, gray rhinos materialized, their hooves kicking up flurries of snow as they galloped in pursuit of her vehicle. A faint tremor ran through the city streets.
The Beastman residents, hiding in their homes, peered down through their windows. They had never seen the Giant Rhinoceros Clan before. The power of their charge was like a natural disaster, and the onlookers clamped their hands over their mouths, staring out in awe.
The journey from the East District to her own rooftop terrace took only half an hour.
Xi Zhongsong did not enter with his team. He personally selected two of his subordinates to guard the door while the rest went to make other arrangements in an orderly fashion.
Once she was down from the rooftop loft and in the privacy of her living room, Feng Si slowly and gently shrugged off her jacket with one hand. She lowered her gaze to the pocket of her sweater.
Yun Duo’s tiny body was sprawled asleep in the pocket at her side. His warm, soft belly pressed against her hand with each breath, and his four little black paws were clamped tightly around her finger.
The sight instantly fortified her panicked heart. Feng Si reached in and gently lifted the little one out.
Yun Chi didn’t stir. Surrounded by his mother’s familiar, safe scent, he stretched his little tail taut in her palm before continuing to sleep soundly.
Feng Si placed the cub on her lap. She took a thick, long, cotton-padded garment from her storage space and dressed Yun Duo in it, followed by a sweater, and finally a windproof jacket. She even placed a tiny wool hat on his little head.
Wrapped up from head to toe with only a pair of eyes peeking out, Yun Chi looked like a long baby serpent.
Then, she tucked the little cub back into her pocket.
Ever since she’d had Yun Duo, she had sewn a large, meticulously designed pocket onto all of her clothes.
The bottom of the pocket was reinforced with a stiff lining to create a small, supported space. The inside was padded with a down-feather cushion to ensure the cub would be comfortable even after long periods.
They had a long journey ahead, and it would be cold on the road. After dressing her most precious treasure warmly and settling him in, Feng Si went back to packing.
Fortunately, her luggage was already packed.
She placed all her packed belongings into her storage space, leaving only two wooden crates out in the open. Then, she cut the power and water to the room and shut down the stove’s heating system.
Feng Si sat on the sofa for a long, long time, until a soft knock on the door broke her train of thought. She looked up, feeling as if she could see the imposing rhino male beast standing on the other side.
She lowered her head again, gazing gently at the sleeping Yun Chi. "Yun Duo, we’re moving."
After speaking, Feng Si picked up her jacket from the sofa, put it on, and then draped a thick fur coat over top. She rose, walked to the door, and pulled it open. Her expression was once again calm and composed.
