Chapter 102: Chapter 102: The Beast King Is Rumored to Be Very Young

"But you don’t have to worry about earning coins," Feng Si continued. "I left Nantong City today. I’d like to offer you fifty thousand coins a month to help me out at Si Shi. Are you willing?"

"Huh?" Hearing the enormous sum of fifty thousand coins with her own ears, Mao Qiu’s eyes shot wide open.

The shock was enough to snap her out of her daze.

She had already received so much help from Feng Si and hadn’t yet found an opportunity to repay her. Mao Qiu said hurriedly, "I’d just be cooped up at home with nothing to do during the cold season anyway. Helping you keep an eye on things at Si Shi is simple—you don’t need to pay me."

Hearing this, Feng Si went ahead and laid out her requirements for Mao Qiu: she was to go to the Si Shi workshop once a day and, along with Yang Wen, check the daily quantity of finished food products.

’Sending my own person in is a way to guard against that cunning Yang Wen falsifying the books. Before, he was just sending me the ledgers through the communicator every day.’

’But since I was in Nantong City, I could tell if anything was amiss.’

’Mao Qiu might not be very effective at monitoring Yang Wen, but she’ll serve as a living ’warning’.’

’I’m still too short-handed.’

As Feng Si thought this, she explained it just as frankly, and Mao Qiu raised no further objections.

Nantong City was her only source of coins at the moment, and Feng Si had no intention of giving it up. Now, she had the helper situation handled.

Finally, she sent a message directly to Yang Wen: "I’m arranging for Mao Qiu to come to the workshop tomorrow to supervise in my place. If anything happens to her, I’ll hold you responsible."

Meanwhile, Yang Wen, who was in the workshop getting a headache over the empty warehouse, was left speechless...

Paying no mind to what Yang Wen might be thinking, Feng Si finished arranging her affairs in Nantong City. She deactivated the communicator, rose from the sofa, and went to the window. Lifting a corner of the floral lace curtain, she gazed outside.

The blizzard scenery flew rapidly backward. Sky and earth were a boundless white of ice and snow.

The Black Hawk flew through military-controlled airspace. They were a race known for extreme speed; a military scout falcon could make the journey from Nantong City to Pantian City in just five days, and this Advanced Male Beast Black Hawk would take only six.

The world of ice and snow gave way to one of lush greenery.

「Six days later, at noon.」

It was the hottest part of the day, and the west gate of Pantian City was thronged with beastmen. Members of various clans, some in human form and others in their beast forms, stood in several long queues, waiting to enter the city.

The Black Hawk, carrying the carriage designed for a female on its back, descended from the sky. It flew low over a deserted entrance point next to the long lines.

As it flew toward a colossal tree, a transparent Energy Shield detected the Black Hawk’s identity and allowed it to pass through. The shield rippled where the Black Hawk had vanished, like a droplet of water falling into a placid, ancient pool.

The beastmen in line craned their necks, watching the disappearing black dot. A moment later, the sound of rhythmic, heavy footfalls echoed from the side as another group bypassed the queue, entering Pantian City through the special passage.

Recognizing the group of gray, mountain-like figures as warriors from the Second Legion’s Rhino Clan, the crowd’s expressions turned to awe and envy. They began to guess at the identity of the person in the carriage on the Black Hawk’s back.

’It must be a high-level female!’

’Otherwise, why would one of the proud Black Eagle Clan, the Jie Beast King’s personal retinue, humble itself to serve as a mount?’

That was right. The Beast King ceremony had been successfully held two days prior, witnessed by the Beast God.

The newly appointed Beast King had not adopted the title of his predecessors, but used his own name as his honorific.

The Jie Beast King...

Given his achievement of defeating the Barbaric Beasts of the Northern Wilderness and forcing them to concede the war, the new Beast King’s reputation across the South Desolate Continent was certainly greater than his father’s.

The title of ’Chi,’ the name of the very first Beast King, had always been passed down. Yet, no one online thought the New Beast King was being arrogant by breaking with this tradition; instead, they accepted it as a matter of course.

This was the biggest news on the continent that Feng Si had been reading on her terminal. Of course, there were no photos of the Beast King, nor any detailed information about him. Rumor had it he was also very young.

Cradling Yun Duo to her chest, Feng Si sat on the sofa, scrolling through the latest news from Pantian City.

"HISS~" A soft, babyish sound escaped him. Yun Chi’s head was pillowed on his mother’s chest, his large golden eyes fixed sharply on the door, unblinking.

Although Yun Chi wasn’t old enough to understand many words, Feng Si spoke to him constantly, so he could grasp his mother’s general meaning.

’The beastmen outside are dangerous and strong. Yun Duo can’t fight them, so Yun Duo has to hide and not let anyone find him.’

At the soft hiss from her chest, Feng Si gently stroked the little one’s back with her fingertips.

’She had to be incredibly cautious when it came to Yun Duo. With her own future so uncertain, how could she dare expose Yun Chi to the world?’

’Yun Duo was still eight days shy of being a month old. He was so small, and he only had me.’

’So, she had to be absolutely sure there was no danger outside before she could let the little one reveal himself.’

These past few days, Feng Si had constantly repeated the lesson: if he encountered someone stronger, he must hide first. Hearing Yun Duo’s warning sound now, Feng Si quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

Her cub understood her. The round, chubby little fellow had even taken it upon himself to be the lookout.

The proof was that he would let out a very soft hiss whenever someone approached.

Feng Si looked up and deactivated her terminal. She placed Yun Duo back in the pouch at her waist, then stood and picked up a loose, thin jacket that was draped over the sofa, putting it on.

Feng Si had just finished buttoning her jacket when Xi Zhongsong’s voice came from outside the door. "My Lady, we’ve arrived at the Boman Gate Institute. We can only go this far. A Servant from the Institute will guide you from here."

The words had barely faded when the large door slid slowly to the right, revealing a world of green.

Feng Si walked to the doorway and blinked at the sight before her.

She saw an island completely surrounded by water.

It was stunningly beautiful, like an island from a painting. It wasn’t a natural island, but one that had been meticulously sculpted and landscaped by design.

Shady trees, neat lawns, and large, colorful flowers lined the paths. Pools and rockeries were artfully scattered about.

A pure white fountain sprayed water at the island’s entrance, its streams turned golden by the midday sun. Here and there, the spires of small, white villas peeked out from among the trees.

At first glance, it was a beautiful, dreamlike island.

There were no male beast warriors on guard, nor were there any buildings visible around the island. But it was obvious that this enormous island was the most heavily fortified location in all of Pantian City.

An invisible, transparent, dome-shaped Energy Shield enveloped the entire island, including its surrounding moat.

Without an entry permit from the Boman Gate Institute, not even a mosquito could get through.

’So this is the annual gathering place for females,’ Feng Si thought to herself.
