Chapter 113: Chapter 113: That Male Beast Who Appeared at the Critical Moment...

Blood rushed to Feng Si’s head, and a chill ran down her spine.

f22 wasn’t tall, but its metal arms, built for work, were thick and sturdy. They had the cold, hard feel unique to metal. Compared to the powerful muscles of a male beast, it was basically cold steel versus raw muscle.

’A guaranteed win.’

But to her surprise, the Cheetah Beastman nimbly sidestepped. He reached out a long, muscular arm, spread his fingers, and pressed them against the robot f22’s square screen of a head. His bloodshot eyes glinted as he gave a vicious smile.

The next second.

"CRACK!"

The crisp sound of shattering metal echoed through the empty valley.

In that instant, Feng Si’s smile froze on her face.

She barely had time to react, her hand still raised, having only keyed in half of the emergency contact number.

She stood rooted to the spot, staring blankly ahead. The robot, f22, lay on the ground, torn to pieces. Wisps of smoke rose from the severed joints and drifted toward her on the wind, making her eyes sting.

’H-How could this be!’

’Wasn’t it made from the hardest metal? How did it fall without lasting even a second?’

!!

Before Feng Si could even process what had happened, the Beastman who had dealt with the robotic butler transformed mid-stride into a giant cheetah with dull, coarse fur.

In perfect sync with his brother, they bounded across the grass toward Feng Si, one from the left and one from the right. Their bestial faces were twisted in excitement, two pairs of eyes locked onto her.

Closer and closer.

So close that she could smell the stench of raw flesh and blood on the beasts’ breath. The sounds of the world faded away, leaving only the frantic pounding of her own heart in her ears.

Feng Si wanted to flee, but the beasts’ oppressive aura pinned her to the spot. She felt like a non-swimmer who had just fallen through ice, her body heavy and leaden as if she were drowning.

Just as they drew close enough for her to see the cheetahs’ whiskers, a gust of wind blew back the hood of her cloak, sending her seaweed-like black hair flying.

Suddenly, Yun Duo’s anxious hiss sounded by her ear, and her mind snapped back to attention.

Her senses returning, Feng Si instantly reached for her pocket, her fingertips steadily stroking Yun Duo’s back.

It was a gesture Feng Si had made to the cub countless times back in the carriage, a signal to be quiet and stay hidden.

Though anxious, Yun Chi was used to obeying his mother. He wriggled his small body into a tight ball, his golden eyes filled with worry.

Yun Chi looked at his little black claws with large, tear-rimmed golden eyes. ’I wish I could grow up faster and kill all the bad guys out there.’

Feeling Yun Duo settle quietly in her pocket, Feng Si’s own thoughts began to calm.

’As long as the cub and I are alive, this isn’t a hopeless situation.’

She gritted her teeth and lowered her gaze, sending the distress message. With no escape, she hung her head, awaiting the fate of her capture.

Just as she was trying to figure out her next move—

"SQUELCH! SQUELCH!"

"THUD! THUD!"

The thuds of heavy bodies hitting the ground were followed by a fierce gust of wind. Feng Si suddenly felt the oppressive shadow looming over her vanish, and the pressure disappeared along with it.

Feng Si blinked in confusion, clutching the pocket holding Yun Duo as she looked up.

Just a meter in front of her lay the two truck-sized cheetahs, their eyes wide and unseeing. The sneers hadn’t yet faded from their muzzles, but they were now lifeless, crushing the wheat beneath them and leaving indentations in the earth.

Blood slowly trickled from their ears and crimson-rimmed eyes. A ghastly white snake skeleton had pierced through the once-ferocious cheetahs, pinning them to the ground like meat on a skewer.

With a series of scrapes, the snake skeleton withdrew from the cheetahs’ skulls, completely unstained by blood. The bones gleamed a chilling, deathly white. The snake skull’s empty eye sockets silently locked onto the terrified female who was staring at it.

An abrupt pause.

Then, as if with a will of its own, the skeleton retracted inch by inch from the cheetahs’ corpses, dragging along the ground as it slid backward. It finally coiled around the slender figure grasping its long, bony tail.

Her gaze followed the snake skeleton that had saved her.

A tall figure stood in the green field, bathed in golden sunlight. Beneath short, raven-black hair was a handsome face with exquisitely defined features.

His golden eyes were more dazzling than the sun itself. Seeing their molten-gold depths for the first time felt both familiar and strange.

’So handsome. And so terrifying.’

"..."

Feng Si’s pupils constricted. Her heart pounded even faster than when she had faced the male beasts who were about to attack her.

’Ah, ahh!’

’Holy shit!!’

’I’m not mistaken... it’s you! From that night!’

Feng Si subconsciously clutched her pocket tighter. Her body went half-cold, half-hot.

’I’m happy the danger is finally over.’

’But!’

’For him to so easily kill a berserk Middle-Rank male beast—one that was nearly a pseudo-High-level—his own rank must be incredibly high.’

’And I know that for High-level male beasts, who have difficulty siring offspring, cubs are an extremely precious commodity.’

’I can’t let you find my cub! Absolutely not!’

With this thought, Feng Si’s fingers began to tap out the secret signal she shared with her cub, hidden beneath her cloak.

Yun Chi, nestled in the pocket, was confused.

’But I can’t smell any danger anymore?’

’Why is Mama’s heart beating so fast? Why does she still want me to hide?’

Yun Chi’s golden eyes darted about. He tilted his small head, pressing it against the fabric of the pocket. His ears, hidden beneath his scales, strained to hear the sounds from outside as his little mind worked hard to understand the situation.

Unfortunately, the outside was silent, save for the rustling of the wheat in the breeze.

Chi Jie lowered his gaze slightly, his eyes landing on the figure not far away.

With his coronation and the defeat of the Northern Wilderness complete, the next event was the coming-of-age ceremony for the females—an occasion every male beast dreamed of. But Chi Jie wasn’t interested.

Despite repeated invitations from the Great Sacrificial Rite, he had refused to attend. He planned instead to find the red-haired female who had long since fled from him. It was time to end this tedious game of cat and mouse.

This time, Chi Jie had left the city to travel to Cang City, the starting point of the whole affair. A giant, dark eagle carried a warship on its back, its speed incalculably faster than any cold, iron hover-vehicle.

Suddenly, high in the air, Chi Jie seemed to sense something. He glanced down at the ground below.

He saw, amidst the golden waves of wheat, two foul-smelling Mid-level male beasts charging toward a petite figure with overwhelming, predatory intent.

The wind blew the hood from the targeted figure’s cloak, revealing a pale face beneath black hair and beautiful, dark eyes filled with terror.

She looked like a fragile, sparkling crystal—beautiful, but exceptionally pitiful and helpless under the assault of the two cheetahs.

That face looked strikingly familiar.

Without a second thought, Chi Jie leaped from the sky and dealt with the two unsightly Middle-Rank cheetahs.

Now, as the distance between them closed, Chi Jie’s golden eyes grew even more profound.

She was even more vibrant in person than when he’d seen her in the hologram. Perhaps it was because of their brief meeting that the familiar scent on her now seemed so much more potent to him.
