Chapter 116: Chapter 116: I Actually Played the Beast King

Feng Si stood in a courtyard as vast as a soccer field and couldn’t help but gaze up at the deep blue sky.

’I wonder if the females who live up on the mountain would look down on me and report me for drying wheat up there.’

"DING-DONG~"

Just then, the crisp chime of a doorbell echoed from beyond the large, white, carved gate.

Feng Si frowned slightly. ’My F22 broke, and that Beastman from the Black Eagle Clan took it. Are they bringing it back now?’

She tore her gaze from the sky, walked over, and opened the gate.

Before her stood an elderly female with pale hair, flanked by a retinue of sub-females in matching white robes.

Each wore a golden badge on their chest, emblazoned with a transparent crystal crescent moon. Hu Fei, the one who had brought her to the island, stood timidly behind them.

Clearly, they weren’t here to return her F22 robot butler. Upon seeing her, the elderly female at the head of the group let out a visible sigh of relief.

Male beasts were forbidden from entering Boman Gate Island, so Chen Mo had come personally to confirm the female’s safety. Seeing Feng Si back safe and sound, she was genuinely and deeply relieved.

Her expression was gentle and kind. "I am Chen Mo, an elder of the Female Protection Institute. We received your distress signal and immediately dispatched warriors. However, we received a report that they encountered the King’s subordinate, Ying Kong, at the scene. So, I tracked the signal from your communicator to find you. Now that I’ve seen with my own eyes that you’re safe, I can finally rest easy."

Feng Si’s breath caught in her throat.

Huh?

’...The King?’

’Is that the one I slept with?’

Struck by this thunderclap of a revelation, Feng Si’s dark eyes went vacant. Her long lashes trembled like a butterfly’s wings, blending perfectly into the shadows untouched by the sun.

’Oh, well. When you’re this deep in debt, a little more doesn’t hurt.’

’No wonder they suddenly ordered continent-wide blood tests. So they were looking for me?’

’I don’t know what good this dragnet search will do, but that was way too close. I have to stay far, far away from him from now on.’

"To dare attack a female in Pantian City... Rest assured, the Female Protection Institute will get to the bottom of this and hold the Cheetah Clan accountable to get justice for you..."

Chen Mo saw that Feng Si’s face was completely drained of color and assumed she was still in shock. After offering a few more words of comfort, she led her people away.

Feng Si dazedly saw the elder from the Female Protection Institute off. Just as she was about to close the gate, Bo Rongrong came running over in a panic.

Bo Rongrong said, her heart pounding with fear, "I just heard what the elder said. Did you run into trouble in the No. 1 Collection Area? I’m so sorry... I shouldn’t have left you there alone."

Feng Si looked at Bo Rongrong. Her worry didn’t seem feigned, but something about what those two cheetahs had said felt off.

With her hands in her pockets, she felt the warmth of Yun Duo’s small body. A smile lit up her beautiful features as she asked bluntly, "I’m fine. By the way, did you run into anyone on your way back? Did you tell them where you’d been?"

Bo Rongrong immediately recalled the two females who had blocked her hovercar. As realization dawned, the guilt in her eyes deepened.

She said, "On my way back, I ran into Feng Lian, Hu Yaha, and the other Feng Si—the one who shares your name. They asked where I was coming from and... I... I told them."

Feng Si’s eyes narrowed. "No wonder."

Realizing what a terrible thing she had unwittingly done, Bo Rongrong apologized profusely. "I’m so sorry! I really didn’t know they would get male beasts to go after you."

Feng Si let out a slow sigh. Today had been utterly exhausting, and she didn’t have the energy to waste on her naive neighbor.

’Why should she let the real culprits hide in the background and get away with it?’

Seeing Bo Rongrong crying with remorse, Feng Si waved a dismissive hand. "Just don’t go telling outsiders your location next time. That’s not just for my sake; you should keep your own whereabouts secret, too."

She didn’t scold her further. Then, remembering the wheat sitting in her dimensional space, she said to Bo Rongrong, "I still have work to do, so if you’ll excuse me."

Bo Rongrong was still reeling from the shock.

’She never expected this female named Feng Si to be so strange. She was so hard on herself—going out to gather at noon, only to come back and immediately do manual labor?’

She then remembered that she was the reason Feng Si had been in danger in the wild in the first place, and she was overcome with a profound sense of apology.

Sniffling, she offered, "What kind of work? Let me help you."

Feng Si, who had been turning to leave, paused. She glanced at Bo Rongrong’s hands, which were as soft and delicate as a newborn cub’s. ’She’s probably never even washed a dish in her life.’

’But...! Farm work like processing wheat didn’t yield any Dust Breath. If she weren’t so short-handed, she would’ve been more than happy to do it herself.’

’Now that someone was volunteering, well, that was just perfect.’

Feng Si’s eyes lit up. "Not you, but... let me borrow your robot butler!"

Bo Rongrong stood frozen on the spot, hiccupping through her tears.

She wanted to ask if she was really less useful than a robot butler, but when she met Feng Si’s perceptive gaze, she didn’t dare throw a fit.

So, feeling thoroughly wronged, she went and fetched her F21 robot butler. Then, reluctantly but obediently, she went home.

Feng Si closed the gate. Knowing that robot butlers only followed commands and would never secretly record a female’s private life, with a single thought, she released the wheat from her dimensional space onto the lawn.

She had cut the stalks near the roots, and the heavy, full heads of unthreshed grain were piled in a small mountain on the grass.

Normally, it was more convenient to dry the grain after threshing. Feng Si’s usual habit was to buy anything she lacked on the Light Net, but unfortunately, after searching the entire network, she couldn’t find any threshing equipment.

Feng Si figured that asking a robot butler, which only followed explicit commands, to come up with a way to thresh wheat was asking too much.

Thus, even with a helper, she still had to work alongside it.

First, Feng Si and the F21 spread a large tarp, made of a material like a raincoat, on the lawn. Then, they laid the wheat out flat on top of it. She took a bundle of straw, tied it tightly into a round bale, and fashioned it into a makeshift threshing roller.

She had the F21 drag the bale back and forth over the wheat. As the bale pressed down, the grains separated with a soft rustling, falling onto the tarp below.

Feng Si didn’t remain idle. While the F21 was threshing the wheat, she brought out a stool and sat beside the pile.

She gathered a small handful of long stalks from the pile, stripped off the remaining grains by hand, and began to weave them into a shallow basket.

She wove it with small, square gaps between the stalks to act as a sieve. Holding the basket’s rim, she’d swirl it in a circular motion. The heavy grains would fall through with a SWISH, while the lighter chaff blew away, leaving only the larger pieces of straw behind.

It separated the grain from the chaff perfectly.

But this sifting process was arduous work. The fine wheat awns stuck to her skin, pricking it painfully. Even though Feng Si was bundled up, the skin near her cuffs still grew pink and irritated.
